It's a nice idea but I personally have no modding skills; I've got logical thinking and a creative mind but I don't think a team of skilled modders would appreciate working 'under' a project manager with no modding skills himself; someone else could though?
That aside, I wouldn't really want to direct even the PR community (at least, not on the PR forums!) away from modding for the vBF2 PR.

There's been ample research in those fields, with some interesting discoveries and successes.
lal, I was waiting for someone to say summit like that.
So, like, EA designed stuff in 2142 based from real technology? Concepts exist IRL but did they actually research existing tech' and design from that? That's like saying the Challenger 2 in the booster pack was based on the real one.

well there arent many lazers in 2142 that i can think of :/
all the weapons still use bullets and shells, grenades, rockets etc
the only stupidly futuristic stuff is the hover tank and enrgy shield etcetc
i would love a mini 2142 mod with more leathal bullets etc etc rather than shooting a whole mag per person xD

the misconception about lazers comes from the old 2142 adverts where teh LMGs are firing some kind of bright tracer that could be a lazer, but such things didn't make it to the retail version.

Well, that's where PR comes in. Can we has lazorz? I've seen them on 'future weaponz'.

The fact that Chechens are using scopes on their rifles is unrealistic.
Chechens using a Spandrel is not realistic.
Is it?
Chechens used alot of scoped weaponry during the campaigns. They even had tanks and helicopters.
Ask Nosferatu.

Heskey wrote:Hey guys,
I suppose this still comes under 'Project Reality' and seeing as it's not a suggestion, I thought this would be the best place to put it; I'm hoping we can keep this thread as a discussion only without asking or pestering the very busy R-DEVs who already do a fantastic job with PR, to divert any resources to make this.
But, let's just talk about it.
When 2142 came out, I hadn't played PR; and as a result I loved it. But once PR came out, and even today (applicable to CoD for instance), I don't enjoy other FPS' as much as I used to because they seem too 'arcady', and I lost my love for 2142 (let alone my time for anything else haha).
It'd be nice to get that love back, and sometimes I've thought about this and even spoke to T&T buddies about it (who regurgitate the 'how can it be REALITY? It's in the future!' speech - Probably doombringer0 tbh, miserable Irish git!)
It doesn't have to be reality; I'm not
that stupid, but imagine 2142 with the elements that make PR great?
- New specialist kits rather than 4 'paint your own' basics.
- 'Realistic' spawn times; so that eliminating an enemy presence in an area will actually give you room to breathe.
- Proper spawn/asset system (longer spawn times for assets; no longer spawning on SLs, every flag you own, proper regulation/limitation of the squad beacon).
- Proper vehicle physics (anything as basic as requiring more than 1 person to operate certain vehicles; may be hard with the PAC hover tank, mind you...)
- AAS v2/3 - No more 'cap EVERYTHING' mentality
- Removal of most HUD to be much like PR.
How cool would that be? What else would 2142 need to make it a 'proper' war game to the standard of the PR we know and love?
Mosquill is working on a project called "TRMod" that is in the same vein as Combined Arms, but I hear it's stuck on approval from some people. HUD for attack helos is where it belongs, TrackIR is possible to use, FCS is realistically implemented on tanks, sniping is realistic (you range with either mil-dots or the reticule that is used), weapon sway is in, and is really sway, aircraft have working instruments, and perhaps, etc.
Search up Mosquill on Youtube and enjoy.
But it definitely does not play like PR. It plays a lot more like Combined Arms, tbh. It'd be better to have PR on C4 engine or BF3/BC2.

Well, Hunter summed up about all the points I was going to make.
Basically, 3d Hud, weapon sway, better designs, automated defenses, FCS, laser ranging, TrackIR, etc... etc...
Basically a whole lotta love (especially to vehicles, which are relaly lacking in PR) not possible in BF2.
Wouldn't mind seeing Mosquill's mod eventually get released, as well as seeing his 10x10 map at some point. It's like he's a one man band with more ambition/knowledge/experience/hacks than the entire PR team wen it comes to exploring the limits of the engines.
