Before .9[.7/.8 and earlier] I was running on All HIGH settings with maybe one or two MEDIUM settings if I wanted extra stable play. I had 4x AA on. When I started PR .9 and hopped in with these settings, I was getting such terrible FPS. So I went out and in a rage turned all settings down to what I list above. And the performance didnt increase, at least, not when looking in the problem areas. There may and probably was an increase in performance when looking outside the map, but as said, these middle of maps were still giving me slide show 15FPS or lower :(

1. Have you noticed a significant performance decrease from 0.87 -> 0.9?

Yes

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.

2

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

Lashkar
Fallujah West
Silent Eagle
[will have to man up and play some more to find others in the coming days]

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

Lashkar was worse when I looked towards the center valley area. If I looked to the outside of the map/mountains, it would give me a DRASTIC FPS boost. As in about a 30-40FPS rise from the 15 I get when looking at the middle of the map/main road area

Fallujah was much the same, when I would look to the center of the map[towards the city] it would go to a slide show. It shows 15FPS but it feels far slower. Playing was impossible. Looking from main USMC base to outside of map was fine, performance and FPS would increase drastically.

Silent Eagle was generally ok until I got to the center city area, then my fps would plummet to the standard 15fps. Aiming was impossible, moving was a task in itself, and I was relieved to get out to power plant because my FPS increased a good deal there.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.

Outside areas of Silent Eagle are much more smooth[when not in the central city] Power plant on Silent Eagle was also smooth

1. Have you noticed a significant performance decrease from 0.87 -> 0.9?
Yes. Gone from a stable FPS at around 70 or above on all maps, to frequently dropping to 20-30 FPS on many maps(old and new).

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.
5 (Still playable, but looking at other versions, it could be a lot better)

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.
Fallujah, Yamalia, Dragon Fly. Pretty much all new maps.

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.
Often when looking at large open areas(problem with the overgrowth?). Also, on Fallujah my FPS dropped from 60 to 15 just by looking at the Bradley inside the US main base. However, on some map just looking towards the centre of the map lowers the FPS significantly, even if there's something in the way.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.
Most old maps. Iron Ridge is OK as well.

This setup/settings ran the previous version perfectly apart from a FPS drop inside the Fallujah US main.

Yes

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.

4

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

Fallujah, lashkar, gaza (the worst).

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

Fallujah - Inside the city in most place and the bottom left of map near US main.
Lashkar - Near any buildings/dense tree areas.
Gaza - Looking North in most areas of map and worst in top right quarter of map.
I am also having frequent screen freezes ranging from 1 - 5 seconds, sound loops and stuttering as well as FPS drop in most maps which has never happened before 0.9.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.

Muttrah is playable but still has less FPS than previous version. Asad Khal is good in the open and frames drop near buildings.

9

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

Silent Eagle, Lashkar Valley and Iron Ridge.

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

For Lashkar I get a solid 40-60FPS except when looking towards the direct center of the map where it drops to 20.

For Silent Eagle I get only 20-30FPS in the center of the village and when firing a H-AT at a BMP-3 there I had so much lag the missile appeared to hit the vehicle and disappear. Otherwise is is fine.

Had a minor FPS drop on Iron Ridge when looking direct North from the South-Western corner of the map, otherwise no problems.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.

So far played Silent Eagle, Lashkar Valley, Qwai River, Dragonfly, Beirut and Iron Ridge and only experienced the above issues. Have also tried all other maps on local and experienced very few issues of note.

1. Yes. I couldn't load the first map i tried (Lashkar Valley) without CTD, sometimes with an error message about memory allocation failure, sometimes not. Set Textures to medium then which made it work better, but i still get CTDs sometimes.

In 0.87 i sometimes got CTDs in the late stages of loading one of the "heavier" maps. Now they sometimes happen right when a new map starts loading.

Didn't look at FPS in detail yet because i just wanted to play, but it seems to have gotten worse in certain situations like scoping in, using binocs etc..

2. If performance in 0.87 was 8 (some CTDs) then i'd say its at 5 now (more frequent CTDs, lower texture setting required, low FPS in some situations).

3./ 4./ 5. Didn't look into it in detail yet, have to play some more with FPS counter running.
Edit: i found a "hole in the sky" on Yamalia: Standing in the trenches in the northwest i saw a pitch black part of the sky when facing west/255-ish. it was a black slice, about 15 deg. wide, from zenith to the horizon. Told a squadmate and he saw it too.

Yes. Lag on every map now... Played PERFECTLY fine maxed out in .87

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.

5

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

Every map to be honest I get more lag than I'd like. Fallujah, Gaza, Silent Eagle, Ochamachira are the ones i've played so far and I lagged on all of them. Ochamachira is the least bad. Muttrah sometimes gets a very little lag, but it's the best optimized map ive played so far. Beruit lags in the factory and in the city and when you look to the center of the map. Lashkar Valley lags. Dragon Fly lags.

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

When you look to the center of the map, FPS decreases dramatically. When you look to the edge it's fine. Over and in the village on silent eagle (in a heli and on ground). Gaza... in the whole city, Fallujah.. whenever im looking toward the center of the map. Ochimachira was random. Lashkar... all over. Dragon Fly lags in the city and especially when flying over it.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.

All of the maps I've tried had some issue with it. But i haven't tried others... Once I do I will edit this post.

BF2 Graphics Settings (recently changed because of .9 performance issues)

Resolution : 1680 x 1050
Terrain : Low (was high/medium before 0.9)
Effects : Low
Geometry : Low (was high/medium before 0.9)
Texture : Low (was high before 0.9)

Anti-Aliasing : 2x (was 4 x before 0.9)

Slightly OT side note: Proportions appear to be slightly off now. Vehicles look "smaller". Weapon models appear taller? Maybe a widescreen issue? I put the widescreen resolution on the command line arguments of the shortcut to 0.9 and use the ingame resolution setting but somehow all models appear a bit "thin and tall" compared to 0.87?

1. Have you noticed a significant performance decrease from 0.87 -> 0.9?

YES.

Feels like a totally different game now. Low fps on every map. Everything feels incredibly "sluggish". Somehow that BF 1942 feeling is back .... like moving underwater .....

Played PERFECTLY fine maxed out in .87

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

Almost every map to be honest I get more lag than I'd like. Fallujah, Gaza, Silent Eagle, Korengal and Operation Archer are the ones i've played so far and I lagged on all of them. Archer is the least bad.

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

When you look to the center of the map, FPS decreases dramatically. When you look to the edge it's a bit better, Gaza... in the whole city, Fallujah ..in the whole city.

1. Have you noticed a significant performance decrease from 0.87 -> 0.9?
Yes. Had mostly good framerates on the .87 maps. Now its unplayable on some of the maps.

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.
New maps 1-3.
Haven't really tried many of the old maps yet though, except qwai. Here the performance is decent, but worse than before .9.

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.
Lashkar, Dragonfly, Yamalia.
Lashkar gives me a steady 15 fps when not looking away from trees/grass/etc.
Dragonfly is completely unplayable. Had trouble typing, as PR would freeze mostly up while being passenger in a jeep.
Yamalia is a bit better, but still quite low framerate.

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.
The static undergrowth seem to torture my pc a lot.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.
None that I've tried yet, but I haven't really gone back and played the old maps yet, so they could be fine.

1. Have you noticed a significant performance decrease from 0.87 -> 0.9?

-> YES. Major FPS drops on several maps, slightly decreased allout performance.

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your performance in 0.9.

-> 6-8, depends on map (0.87 would have been 9)

3. Name three or more maps in 0.9 which result in the worst performance.

-> worst three: Dragon Fly, Fallujah West, Lashkar Valley

4. From the maps mentioned above, state which specific areas/directions affect your performance the most.

-> The FPS are going below 30 or even 20 from a solid 80 when either facing the large smoke columns (fallujah) or looking over or going through the new dense fields while moving in a vehicle (lashkar, dragon fly).
Generally the performance drops when close to these fields on any map (e.g. Qwai, Gaza), but stays above 45 most of the time. Standing still in these fields leaves the FPS around 80. On Yamalia slight FPS drops occur when using the zoom from a ground vehicle/binocular.

5. Name any maps that you have no performance issues with.

-> Asad Khal, Beirut, Muttrah, Iron Ridge, Jabal, Kashan, Silent Eagle.
Maps not mentioned in this post have not been played/tested yet.

1. Yes. Somtimes the lag is relaxed but when I turn around really fast, or do some quick actions it just gets choppy. I see an enemy, I try to scope and it freezes for 1-2 seconds, guess what I'm dead when the gameplay resumes.

2. Would give it a 4.

3. Gaza Beach, Lashkar Valley and Beirut(Worst for me)

4. Beirut when your in the plane going from RUS carrier to the mainland, its unsurvivable. Gaza when you turn around, the lag begins and you get killed.

5. Let me see, the only real lag is when you seem to be loading somthing, if you just stare off the map its fine I suppose.
