maybe in vanilla bf2 where there is no restriction for the kit, or in CSS. The pistol a sniper is allocated makes for a fine cqb weapon. Actually let me rephrase my initial response: if the sniper and his spotter are in a urban landscape, the spotters weapon, will also make for a decent cqb weapon, if the sniper and spotter are in a urban landscape, and have a run in with some enemies, while relocating to a different position or while moving through the urban jungle.
Snipers working alone usually result in snipers being killed and the other team getting the sniper kit and it being used against the team it originally was intended to help. Just like H-AT being used by one person, that player dying and the H-AT falling into the hands of the enemy.

Really? Do you know that you need 4 people in the squad to request the marksman kit? get your facts straight, boy.

Who do I complain to about these power boner Moderators? Just because someone called someone a Boy? and another Person agreed with someone? Is this a Joke?

Snipers today, now operate in 2 to 8 man squads. I think a radio would be a good idea. But doing all the things require you to be squad leader so having an officer as a spotter isn't a bad idea. (pistol for CQB and rifleman for defense)

I think we should give FOB building abilities back to combat engineers, often now full squads are diverting from their objective to build FOB's.
Maybe right click with the spanner and you hold it up to the side of your face, like radio?

Put in an alternate sniper kit without the gtld but with a radio.
Seems like the best compromise about the whole lone wolf thing.

Left Click - GLTD
Right Click - Radio

Now I'm confused.
In the OP you stated you wanted to lase targets and plot them on the map using the SL radio?
But then a system where one kit gets the GLTD and another gets the Radio is the answer?
Wouldn't you need both to effectively lase targets and mark them on the map?

The point as I understood the op he felt that the sniper needed a radio in order to better preform it's recon duties.
In tern people started to complain that it would make them too lone wolfy since they would no longer need a spotter to lase and mark.
So I made my perposal of two alternate snipers so the sniper could take a radio if he wanted but would still need a spotter to laze or vice versa.

Never mind, I understand now. Expatriate Gamer would be able to squad lead as a sniper, marking the map for the whole team, with a HAT backing him up. Sounds a little vanilla for my taste.
I was just a little confused, because in his original post he wanted to lase targets and call them in with the radio. Which your system wouldn't accomplish. So I didn't understand why he supported it.

I don't think he ever said he wants to make the game more Like vbf2.
What people do with their kits is really up to them, and I
am sure he wouldn't want words put in his mouth.

Just give the sniper kit a radio, I would give up the GLTD for a Radio.
Can any DEV comment on this please?

The first post was completely useless and like any other time this is noticed by moderators, it was tended to. People have always been warned to not simply say "I agree" and instead supply some worth to their posts.
The second posts tone is aggressive regardless of whether he used the word "Boy" or not.

no because then you can't lase targets which is a big plus of the sniper kit.
- also snipers don't need a radio
squad leader takes officer kit and someone takes sniper kit. you only need 2 men and there u go you've got your spotter team

bad arguement is bad.
On the vast majority of maps the sniper has no use for the gtld since there is no cas to spot for. Sorry just the way the game is.
Based on the same logic by the way snipers don't need the gtld since the officer caries one and as you've said "there you go you've got your spotter".
Also if you had read on you would have seen that the suggestion came down to having to alternate sniper kits. The same way there are alternate gl, marksman, etc. One with the gtld and one with a spoting radio.

does the sniper need a knife? he's got a long range and short range wepon and i don't think you'd need a knife because if you emtied a whole clip of a pistol into someone and they arn't dead then you are

I could be wrong from not having any experience in the military, but I will say assertively that a knife is part of standard issued gear for all US Military Infantryman, and Snipers.
