If it hits the right places. Otherwise you might just be shooting into thin air... The "armour" is designed so that the .50 can penetrate cleanly without damaging, fuel takes are specially protected (be special healing tanks), rotors can have holes in them and still provide lift, there are 2 engines and double of almost every system.Pariel wrote:It can survive 12.7mm fire -- which is not the same as sustained 12.7mm fire. Extremely true, which it is so unbalanced... Aircraft and apcs to a lesser extent are forced into the engagement range where the .50 are most effective, negating all the advantages a helicopter has with its higher firepower and ranges. Either ranges need to be increased, be proportional, or the damage adjusted to compensate for this...Those Apaches TheOldBreed is talking about weren't taking anti-aircraft fire at distances under a kilometer. Distance is a significant factor even for bullets that large. Hence the reason Apaches use 30mm guns, rockets and missiles.
