Its a bit weird at first because you turn your head an not your eyes. Its not as alien as you might think and in a few tries it become natural. In fact you probably do it everyday in front of the computer. Someone says something, you start to turn your head but the LOL cat video is about finished
so your eye are stuck to the monitor then you eyes follow your head to the speaker....its basically that same thing. All you married guys know this exact move.

You know what's REALLY frakkin' scary? Using TrackIR for racing games and flight sims on a regular basis, I *seriously* (no shittin') - found that when driving, I would turn my head in quick, TIR-like movements to check my mirrors and blindspots.

When watching Rise of Flight videos on Youtube that were shot from a first-person perspective, I also started to move my head in time with the video as it felt like my head should be moving to control the view.

That's when I started cutting back my flightsim time lol.

You can't move your head without moving your eyes, this is true. The eyes are attached to the head, move one and the other one moves too.

However, you CAN move your head without shifting the focus of the eyes.

Mouse controlls the rifle, TrackIR controlls the viewdirection of the head.
But of course you have to move your mouse if you want to turn your whole body and not just the head.

Which I think is awesome and reason enough to be interested in TrackIR, even though I'm no flight sim fan.

Spec!!! DSA ftw!!!

And yeah, still trying to overcome the pain threshold to shell out 195 € for the TIR 5. While the TIR5 is only 160 $ on the Naturalpoint website, they take over 50 $ for shipping (UPS). Add import tax and it's more expensive than buying from the German webshop that offers them for 195 €.

Wondering if the better tracking resolution of the TIR5 versus the TIR4 is actually worth the money, since the TIR4 would be only ~160 €

I've played the Microsoft Flight Simulator series for nearly a decade so I'd love to get my hands on TrackIR.

I looked into it, figured that TrackIR is way too expensive for my budget.
So I went on, baught a cheap web cam, some IR-LEDs and built the Hardware myself (removed the IR filter fromt he cam, soldered together the LEDs, resistors and battery pack and mounted that on some styrofoam that I could attach to my headset), I then went on to use FreeTrack. It actually worked in FreeTrack 2.2 but I think I never got it to run with Arma2 :-( . I might try it again when PR:ARMA2 is released.

I wanted to get a TrackIR system for a few games I play, however the cost is a factor preventing me from purchasing one.

Cassius wrote:I dont see the point of a track IR. Yes, its awesome how the view turns as you move your head, but guess what, if you move your head...you are not watching the screen no more.
It works as a ratio. so you are always looking at the screen 3 degrees = 45 degrees in game.
