i dont think its about if a soldier would use it, or if it will be useful.
The thing is that it can be done IRL, so it should be possible here.

Mind you, landing in the lake at Silent Eagle will most likely get you a tank shell in the side, same as Qin Ling. But it is a real capability of the chinook, so it should be here too.

Chinooks should be able to load the canadian jeeps if you ask me, maybe just one.

Now I know this might be a problem for the engine, if it is so, then do it the bf42 way, make a chinook spawn with strapped in jeep inside, making it drop the jeep like a crate.

True, But it seems now that the Dev team is looking for more playability then cool realistic stuff to add, which is kinda awkward since PR was created to avoid those arcadish "fair and balanced" vanilla style gaming. Well atleast that's what I think. I'm not against keeping it balanced to a certain degree, but lets not forget what made this mod so special in the first place.

All these neat little IRL things that can be incorporated into the bf2 engine.

I was actualy talking about that with another forum member, the way all suggestions seems to not only be ignored (legitimate, true, not all suggestions are to be taken seriously) but also in a rude and disrespecting manner often, which is totally not needed.

Remember that those who take the time to suggest stuff are those who play this mod everyday akeepin' it alive and rolling. All I'm saying is that if you're to set up a forum for suggestions, atleast take the time to read them and understand them, even debate em. This is concerning the quick thread closing for other reasons then double post.

The second video is definately a chinook. If you look it has the almost full body length what i presume are fuel tanks, correct me if i'm wrong. Whereas the Sea knight only has short potruding rear wheel mounts? again i'm not sure what they're called...

the point of not adding things that exist in real life is, that people in real life use them in different ways than ingame, so, if a new thing is likely to be only used in a unrealistic way, then its not going to improve the realism, and as such, will not be added into PR.
Hope that helps

Yeah Chinooks have been able to float i remember back in Battlefield Vietnam they could, maybe it's hard coded or maybe they don't see it fitting with game play but i think it would be a interesting additiion and giving pilots/squads more options to have easier landing zones. Especially near forests.

The only maps with a big body of water and a Chinook are Qinling and Silent Eagle.

And only Qinling spawns boats near the temple. So whats the point?
They could add it to PR:V. In Vietnam there is lots of water and lots of chinooks.

Are there alot of special forces pickups in boats in PR:V?

I highly doubt it.

@GrimSoldier:
even tough, i am not a fan of it, it would be really easy to do, since the floaters are objects that can be added to any vehicle with 2 lines of code in the config

Yeah this can be donne, why not!!!. but how is up to the job?

that's is the real problem, the mod got some other problems, PR2, PRArma, and the insane ammount of unessesary lag in the game.

That has decresed considerable on the last pacth, but still up ALOT compared to 0.874 version.

Quick question to all the haters...

How the hell would something this minute get abused? What game changing operations will we be finding that are subject to abuse? Does adding a realistic capability define abuse?

I see all these references to "OMG SP3CI4L F0RC3S IN PR!" where there clearly is no use in that medium (IE, of being able to board/unload a special forces boat), or the fact that most posts in agreement to striving for realism and adhering to the original mod's mentality have been everything BUT whining for another "escape for the 1337".

It's like there's this huge gripping phobia whose influence is religious on these forums...

he meant PR:ARMA2 (ninjaed by Snazz)

@McLuv: just like i said, you can't code how people will use it, and can immagin a lot of places where a floating chinook would just be odd and unrealistc, and, as long as normal forces do not use it, its more realistc not to use it in PR as well, i mean, a normal pilot would most likely not even be trained in doing something like that, and when every body can do it in PR, how does this improve realism?

It would be usefull tho.

You are ina boat, taking fire, you bail because the boat will soon go sleeping with the fishes, then what to do? YOu are in the middle of the water, nowhere to run, bullets landing all over you. Ta-duuuh, you call in a Chinook. It gives you cover and extraction. Pretty neat.

Then gets hit with a HAT, but that a whole another story...
