though i cant agree to the other points of your post, i cant agree more to that one. some introduction on the map would be awesome, on fallujah something like
"lotta cqc, street battle..."

i like it the way it is, a scenario would be cool though, nothing big, just something.
again on fallujah
"trustable information about terrorist gathering, want to take control of the city and use it as a base"

Briefing on maps, on historically accurate maps (Fallujah, Basrah...) should be historically accurate briefing.

I miss the old 0.5 and 0.6 Briefing they had usually summed up everything and spiced the map.

Briefing makes it harder for map makers as there's quite a few unrealistic scenarios. I like it the way it is now, the best briefing is given by my squadleader :)

It wouldn't have to be detailed enough to make things difficult for map makers, just enough to add flavour and inform players of their place within wider operations.

"The strategically significant port of Muttrah has been heavily defended for the duration of the conflict, however in recent weeks a signficant proportion of the MEC 3rd Mechanised Brigade has been withdrawn to form up for an Army sized attack on the state of Israel, leaving the defense to the 6th Mechanised Battalion. Elements of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, depleted from protracted operations in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia, have been moving to establish a tactical beach head in the city of Muttrah. Such a lodgement would allow the city to become a high capacity Sea Port of Disembarkation, opening a new front on the MEC heartland. 11MEU is the only unit in position to exploit this fleeting opportunity, however tactical success will bring with it strategic reinforcements."

How does that limit a map maker?

True it doesnt really limit the map maker. You can write the story after the map is made

That way its easier.

Nah I don't want to derail the thread, all I basically did was government setup, weapons, vehicles, uniforms, sections of the military (more than just army/marines etc), I went into a lot more detail with the M.E.C. I have a multi page layout of it.

I dont need briefings, instead some tactical/strategical tips would be good I think.

Not complete strats but some advice just like the small "loading advice" but on a more strategical level, that people understand how important FOBs are for example.

I agree, but with the advice, I think map specific "quirks" should also be noted in there, like: "the cobra spawns when the docks are capped", "X asset does not respawn so don't ****ing waste it!" or "Y faction doesn't bleed tickets, even if they don't hold any flags".

perhaps there is scope for this to be done with teh backgroudn pictures

instead of just 'nice' pictures (they are nice though :D ) perhaps it should be examples of strategy on that map.

Yes, definetely.
as long as the maps are real locations, you can imagine a scenario which is located there, so you can write a good briefing.

Like this?
"Memorise where each asset spawns. When round starts, immediately run to Gary and drive it to the enemy main base as fast as you can. Don't forget to detonate! This way you can wreak as much havoc as possible to the enemy and it's also good way to piss them off."

:D

You could do like a contest for the community. Who writes the most interesting briefing.

no, i use loading screens as my bathroom/drink breaks.
would a briefing really change the fact that you need to cap flags and kill bad guys? no.

Agreed. This would reduce the amount of work the devs have to do.

Yeah but I'm confused here guys. The Americans are fighting the Russians in one map, the Russians are fighting the Militia in one map, and the Militia are fighting the British in another map? I thought the British and Americans were allies, if we do have briefings, they will have to make sense with the rest of the maps. It's too much work to make everything that's happening in these battles make sense with everything else.

I don't think they mean it has to make sense in the whole scheme of things, but that you get into the "mood" when you're reading the briefing for just that mission.
