"realistic" FPS > combat simulator
For me anyways...
PR 0.5 was the highlight for me as well. It was newly released and a clan mate suggested it to me. I love playing with friends and clan mates because of the awesome teamwork and I was looking for something similar in pub servers. I had hoped this mod was it and it definitely surpassed my expectations. It just so happens that this was right around the same time good teamplayers who used their mics became increasingly rare in most vBF2 servers. I wonder where they all went...

the only thing i really dislike is the really points being gone, but i will survive.
My problem is i have not played much in the last 2 monthes.
and only had one good game =/
i think the admins have gotten a bit more power hungry in a way, but its their servers, we dont have to play on them.
I do wish i could go back and play .75.. or was it .7 agian.
I had the best games of my life back then...

I can't play much anymore as PR is so damn time-consuming. With work and all, I can hardly make time for it.
I think some admins are given too much power and are immature with it. On an insurgency server the other day, the admin rammed a Transport Humv into our Crow humvee and blew it up. They when we all yelled at him we got kicked.

While PR's success is greatly associated with the slower, tactical pace that our niche player base love, your point is very valid and it's important to cater to players that can't just set aside an entire evening.
We plan on lowering round times a bit in the next release. Not by a significant amount, but enough to prevent gridlock rounds from going on 3-4 hours.

May I ask how this will be done?
More bleed?
Assets/Soldiers worth more tickets?
Shorter round times?
Less tickets?

Yay! My best and most fun muttrah round ever was about 15 mins, epic US blitzkrieg.
I hate how with like 6 hrs of free time a day I can only play 4 maps at best, with one of them being Muttrah (I Love Russian forest maps).
If flags would make u bleed slowly it would help allot, on maps like Asad Khal, Barracuda etc where the attacker doesnt ever bleed and if the attacker team fails big-time the round will last for ages and it will be hell'a boring.
The faster rounds end the more maps we can play a day, like I havent played Kozelsk for ages and I darn love it, Iron Ridge too.

Not sure if it was 2008 though.
Thats from the 0.5 release, when helicopters and jets got the warm up time and new handling.
There is always a noob invasion after every release, since a lot of people see the announcements and want to check it out.
The EA announcement was made after 0.85 release in 2009, the 2008 summer was the one where we had grievers making rage videos of PR, that infamous exploit where all the players crashed off a server and you had those ghost rounds after people started rejoining and found everything everywhere, the hack where everyone got kicked out of their squads, twats making impersonations of PR community members by making similar account names, though everyone caught on that one pretty quick... was quite sad.

That will be disclosed upon release.

Slowness is what gives PR its uniqueness.
Its like chess.
If I wanted to play a counter strike clone, I would go find one of the many games out there.
Major reason why players are leaving PR is because of performance related issues. Thus not fun to play anymore.

Get ARMA II OA, that's a nice game.
Some changes are good, some were bad. For me the main point to give up on PR is because all this "teamwork" stuff is a bit overdone inside this community. The answer to almost every question is...teamwork blablabla, this is taken a bit to serious for a computer game. And its kind of biased towards bluefor, but well each to his own. And server admins is also a topic. Maybe PR:ARMA 2 will be great, with a bit more chilling and ingame freedom ^^.

huh? never heard PR loose players due to performance issue. rather i could imagine its cause BF2 engine is getting outdated by the time.
but agree its like chess. just better

You said what now? I'm sorry but just in case it had slipped your notice this is a mod about Teamwork, which most people play primarily because of... teamwork. Funny that, everyone going on about "teamwork" all the time
Also, its the core gameplay, how can it be 'taken too seriously?' If it was a platformer would you complain that people are taking the jumping too seriously, or the puzzles in a puzzle game?

.75 was more fun then .91.
.75 Had alot of teamwork and was simple.
.91 Has alot of eye candy with some stupid changes.

i think the preformance issues he is talking about is the lag that lots of peaple get.. (including me ) in alot of maps
in parts of falluja (cant spell it) i am down to 10FPS =/

Might be time to upgrade your PC. If people don't upgrade, then PR maps can't evolve. Making bigger, better, more detailed maps ultimately requires more of the players' machines.

No. Not really. All the stuff they've added in .8+ is nice and all, but TW in .75 was the bomb. You didn't need the fancy animations back then.
Plus the rally point removal makes skrimish games a pain in the rear to play because if you close to a cap out then you get killed you have to walk 10 minutes to get back. They might as well take skirmish out because without rally points it makes small clan matches almost unplayable. Every match my clan plays now has to have a time limit because without rallys it goes on for upto 3 hours (yea. yamalia in a 12v12 for 3 hours is disgusting).
Just seems like gameplay was generally better in .75, but no going back now I suppose.

No, fallujah is just messed up, 15 fps for no apparent reason, also it makes my game freeze every few mins for like 1-2 secs, annoying.
On all other maps Ive got atleast 30 fps with no freezes.
