'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1478023']lol that bullet isn't going to improve performance that much, its just a slight optimization in terms for every weapon/shell ejection effect using the same bullet instead of weapons sourcing bullet textures from other weapon textures like the SA80 was loading one of the big M16 texture sheets to get its bullet texture out of it :p

Although that bullet is a very, very tiny part of what I'm currently working on although here's a quick POC picture I took a few weeks ago on it although I very much doubt you will be able to tell what it is, if you can tell then I've slightly failed :p
Also ignore the US Army camo and the old brit kit geoms, I aint bothered to update my pr_edit fully yet :p

My setup, running PR on 1680x1050, maxed out.

Vapor X 5770 ($160)
Biostar TA785 ($60)
AMD Athlon x2 5400 @2.8ghz ($50)
4gb ddr2 800 RAM ($60)
430w Thermaltake PSU ($40)
Rosewill blackbone with 2x80mm fans $30 (best case ever)
Western Digital 250 gb HDD ($35)
Windows Vista x64 Ultimate $0 (you know how i got it ;)
Battlefield 2 the complete collection steam $30
Total $465.

Don't listen to all the benchmark BS
"you need an xtreme alientech 2000 processor running at 500ghz with 20 cores, a Nvidia SuperCharged 9950 Ultra GTX with time-bender technology, 2000gb ddr15 RAM to get OK framerates at 600000000 FPS."

the point is so people like you make "whats the point of this thread" posts.

actually is a cover up for a suck information out of a dev thread, it's an operation that has been going on for quite some time now.

also 300-400 dollars will get you a decent PR running pc (not maxed out though) but high textures definitely

I am sure on low settings (with some med) at a lowish resolution you should be able to play PR with a decent frame rate.

What size is your screen? what resolution are you playing at? what settings are you playing on?

@Rhino pic, alpha channel on part of the foregrip, deleted parts of the side/ao baked them onto 3p texture?

afak he "downloaded" it....but yes reformat your PC and install XP on it, the RAM is killing your performance as windows 7 recommends a minimum of 2 gigs.

edit: and your graphic card is fine imo, look at benchmarks here

I made a Grammar Nazi appearance on the thread title. Also you don't need to spend a ton of cash on an upgrade, just buy last year's stuff, prices go down by the month.

why? why do so many people not trust torrents? DDL is obsolete, torrents are perfectly safe, it's 300x safer than a direct download will ever be. The files get checked while they download so there's no chance of corruption or infection unless the file was bad to begin with when it was posted. DDLs can be corrupted or infected at any point even after upload if the site itself gets hit, torrents cant.

yea and then when you have xp you can strip all the unnessesary programs off, that run in the background and reduce performance...in the administrator controls via control panel.

you use task manager to go through each little .exe and look it up on google and see which ones are crucial and which ones arnt. there are a few very good tutorials, just be sure not to deactivate something important. its like slashing a hamstring. but you can get rid of things like the desktop "themes" without any negation to ability or performance for example.

(actually i was in your exact position, a friend helped me through optomisation and then i built a new computer after about a year, and the old machine is still being used by my brother.)

Nvidia 8800GT and 2.6Ghz quadcore went from 30fps to 160fps on the last patch.
Don't touch, it's not broken, last patch was :)

Ah nice! I'm going to install XP than. Ive had to put my details on low and it isnt running smoothly. Maybe that will help. Good news about the performance smoothing out bit as well! Excellent
