Yeah, but because they hit the back-rotor, thus causing the BH to loose control and crash. Not because of some engine damage, or system failure, just a bloody lucky shot.

Hang on, you can't argue that 20 RPG's missed it but the one that did only downed it because it hit a critical part. That was my point

Examples of what might actually cause an RPG to bring down a UH-60?
* An OG-7V warhead bursting inside the aircraft, permitting fragmentation to kill/injure the crew or cause critical damage to avionics, flight controls, or other vital components
* The explosion causing distraction to the pilot, in addition to fear/shock of being hit, leading to the pilot losing control of the aircraft
* The force of the blast being sufficient enough to temporarily destabilize the aircraft and force it into colliding with another object/terrain
* The explosion removing one or more rotor blades, causing enough instability and/or inability to maintain flight
And in most of those cases, the pilot will still have control long enough to make a landing.
In general though, an RPG hit or near-miss against a Blackhawk in most cases is going to cause some damage but most likely not enough to drop it out of the sky.
I have two suggestions based upon this. First, (this should be technologically feasible, based on testing that I have done with pipe bomb IED's and armored vehicles) add a bigger "push" when a chopper is hit with an RPG to simulate the destabilization that you mentioned as a possible effect of a direct hit. Also, what about adding a bit more crewman damage for a direct hit with an RPG? I am not talking about enough to send an aircrew into black and white status immediately, but just enough to strongly encourage them to RTB; perhaps reduce health to 70%, just inside bleed range.

Jeez, that's a helluva hit.
If it had exploded i'm sure it would have been far worse however.

with the tali HAT kit on kokan Ive can usually hit the BH and take it down.
and i know for a fact a solid tandem on the chinook brings it down.
so i dont have trouble with it. Hit it with a non tandem warhead rpg and it'll usually make the pilot freak and die or rtb....and kill nmes inside it

I think the only problem with the UH-60 is the sound of the blades spinning. It's horrible. It's definately the worst of all the helicopters in the game. I hope they're still vBF2.

QuadAA's need to be seriously looked at btw, they're ridiculous.

My question: does it really make sense for tandem RPG warheads to do more damage to vehicles without reactive armor? I don't really see how it would be the case.

Quad guns are placed at your main base as a last line of defense.
WHY oh WHY would you want to tweak that at all? Its meant to defend, and defend it does. If these things were in place in the middle of the map overlooking an objective then you sir would have a point.
As far as RPGs go... well... ehh... they work fine right now. Sometimes it kills, other times it tickles the BH. However, what drives me mad, is when i shoot a HAT kit at a chopper, and it just flies away like nothing happened.... Or the SPG techie, thats an anti armor round, it should really kill it in one shot tbh...

It should depend on where you hit it if it is destroyed in one hit or not, like hitting the fuel tank vs. the landing gear. When hitting the fuel tank, the UH-60 "Blackhawk" would explode into pieces in a huge fireball, and hitting the landing gear would do nothing at all.

Yeah, except that it might not be able to land proper.

It's not really that simple, but appreciated as mentioned there are a lot of places it would be 'OK' to hit the BH with an RPG.

in the soviet occupation they added bent drainpipes to the rear of the launcher so they could lay down and fire them into the sky at the Russians choppers (after 5 seconds of flight the rocket motor cuts out, it travels in the wanted direction for 500m until the motor cuts out where the rocket will go on for some 400m until it "soft detonates") they used this as a make shift flak battery. they were very capable to take down hinds which didn't fly exceptionally high. assuming that its SOP for the US Apache pilots to keep above 1 Km if they go below its very possible that its could hit an Apache

I agree that Blackhawks are a bit too strong I hit one with an LAT RPG right in the front cockpit as it was landing and all it did was smoke a bit. It ended up returning to base and repairing. Last I checked the front glass on Blackhawks aren't RPG proof.

Screw LATs, I hit one with a HAT for it to fly back to main smoking yesterday.. Friggin choppers with same armor as tanks?

It's been brought up again and again. So this raises the question should we make the choppers weaker or make the LATs stronger?
