i loved barentz invasion. beautiful map and great atmosphere, only problem is despite having ping only 75 average, i lagged like there was no tomorow. the snow effect is the cause according to the other players on the server, perhaps we could lower the view distance a little bit more and remove the snow effect. my machine can handle muttrah and maps like fools road no problem so this one should be fine if the snow effect isn't the cause.

cache locations need better protection, we just mortared the **** out of every location that showed up when i played insurgency mode on that map the first time.

Barentz Invasion INS layer was a blast to play despite the rubber banding, and having our own chopper trying to SAW/HAT/GL us to smitherings (epic stuff).

Love Barentz Invasion AAS, the start where the british try to take the abandoned ship is like an SBS mission, just making a last stand as militia

All three maps imo do not just look randomly generated but they feel it. Hardly any micro-cuts in the terrain for cover, not much in the way of statics etc. While I understand that is the point of the maps, I still cant say I have enjoyed a round on any of them yet apart from CAS duty on OSS as CAS is always fun :p

But in general
- Too many heavy assets. Maps like Kashan etc work because the infantry has somewhere to go. Northern lights and OSS I just had to do nothing but hide my squad constantly (cant use any AT on northern.. Would just be easier to give both sides the US HAT :p ). Pretty much infantry get dicked on hard by the sheer amount of CAS and Apcs/tanks. I would like to try them all with layers with only transport choppers and jeeps.
- The snow. Now I know it is hard to create a good looking snow texture at the best of times let alone on the bf2 engine. My main problem is the resolution of brushes used on vehicle textures, they look very blurred and obscure. More 60% layers around the wheel ruts would look better imo + add some snow on the roof and add it to the normal.
- Barentz has a lot of hills that look like you can walk up them but in reality you cannot at all, bar maybe a rope. Very unimaginative flag names ( :p ). Found a few floating trees and light-maps look misaligned to trees in quite a few places. Also there is a lot of LOD-switching with the tree stumps used, goes from a box to the stump at like 20m (?). I would have liked to see different factions also, the strength of Militia being the Iron sights in forests, they get easily wiped now in open rolling hills with little micro cover. Also map has too many heavy assets imo.

Cannot really give much feedback on the other 2 as not many servers run them.

So compared to other pr maps like Qinling and Lashkar with mountains you can walk up? this isnt a map issue but an issue with material in the game.

tbh, it doesnt have enough heavy assets, i dont class 2 apc's as too many heavy assets. Especially up against militia with 3 spg techies.

Can u think of any imaginative flag names? I cant, especially without being unrealistic about it.

Tree Stump is an issue that has been corrected. And so has the lightmaps.

On skirmish, as flat as the ground seems, there is actually plenty of cover, and even on the entire map, there are ditches and bumps all over to hide, and rocks.

Yes they should just remove the falling snow. A lot of us can't play on Barentz. Plus, the falling snow has no effect on the gameplay. It's not like they were making a blizzard or something.

this map is unplayable for my pc. it use to much GPU. CPU and RAM is fine.

Its immersive, and immersion is critical to the realism factor. Its good there isn't a ton of dust like BC2, but the snow adds a really realistic and cold effect to the map.

Of course it should be removed if the performance issues are so widespread, but an alternative to removal should be aimed for.

I remember PoE2 did a nice falling snow effect without losing much performance. It could be just that those are smaller maps, but it might be worth asking them how they did it.

It really does add to the immersion. When i first played barentz and flew the chopper, the low fps and the snow made me feel like flying in a blizzard.

unfortunately they do not due, to the amount of work that would be required and the limited manpower that can do such a task.

Of the 3 I've played Barentz Invasion AAS the most. FPS drops into the 25 range at times but not unplayable. So far all rounds have been enjoyable, with a lot of back and forth on the flags and good team work.
I'd like to see them stay as Winter maps, even if the falling snow has to be removed for performance. Oh and replace those ground cover palms with evergreens :)

Just played a round of Barentz AAS, it turns out the militia gets a Jdam after 30 minutes. They must have some very good connections on the local black market :)

Laughed my *** off.

Love the winter maps. I hope they're here to stay, so long as the thermals are "fixed" and the devestating fps drop on Barentez us fixed. I blame the white and big mountains. Its to beautiful to be true
