man i fucking hate snipers. I hate when I've made some ground with my team or taken down a building and some boring person on a hill shoots me. It's perfectly fine and realistic in the big maps like kashan and iron eagle but when you're on something like muttrah where someone sits in those huge mountains on their own and can always see the entire map it just does my head in. Plus there is the annoying collision thing where if you just get your crosshair over the hilltop to shoot, no one ever seems to be able to hit you in one shot, even with another sniper thats been rested and prone for ages.

I suppose that is their purpose though and I can't complain when there's a friendly sniper doing their job. I played a clan training match in the kashan bunkers and I would admit one of the defining reasons we won was because we put a sniper in the hills overlooking the bunkers. The other team said there was loads of confusion about where the shots were coming from and they were all popping smoke while we landed on the northern bunkers and flanked them.

I think the main point of this post, though, is not the sniper being effective or not, it's the people using them wrongly and there should be some sort of limiter on that.

If you had a thuperthniper, then your message is "You're not welcome to hang out in my squad while you do your business" and no harm is done, because they'll just create a new squad.

If you had, on the other hand, someone who thought they could help you or you squad out, either in direct recon or ranged attack capability, your message was loud and clear: "You're not welcome to use that kit, you're not welcome to correct your mistake, and even if you do, there's a good chance I'll kick you again anyway, because I lied about how long you had in the first place" If your squad members were all telling you to kick him, then their message was a giant "Up yours!"

And chainsaw, you're spot on the money, the point is that snipers are frustrating but they're not invincible. It's not impossible on Muttrah to either flank the sniper or have CAS deal with it, even an APC or another sniper.

Some people really don't like feeling as though they've been taken advantage of, and if he's an administrator, and his server rules allow for it, he'll do what he will, as is his right.

Anyone in my squad, who takes any kit without asking, is confronted.

If they take any kit and leave the squad. They are kicked off the server.

Thats just the way i roll.

If they join my squad, ask for a kit they are going to use in another squad for bla bla. Then thats a different story.

You have to understand, PR is about teamwork, and communication.

If i see a player doesnt use teamwork. Then bye bye.

Sniping in PR, depends on luck most of the time actualy, same like dogfighting, ofcourse I agree with the fact that there are people that can't use them in a right way, but that problem will never be solved.

I don't know, but somehow I hate ALL administrators, they're just normal people just like us, they just take advantage of the "power" they have in-game but not in reallife.

On topic; just for all people reading this:
If you hate the sniper-kit/snipers, then don't mind it, just ignore it, mind your own business like administrating your server on a good way, or doing some awesome job with your fail-tank or something like that. I hate the fact seeing an APC/Tank standing in the middle of no-where just shooting random things, at this point I can say the same thing people say about snipers, in general I hate all heavy assets and their crew.

Then you've got some problems with authority man, and those are more pressing than any server administrator. Server admins are people, yea, and they have the really, really tough job of dealing with all manner of low lives in addition to the misinformed but well intentioned new players. If you have consistent problems with them and you truly are in the right, you'll have to deal with it elsewhere. Attempting to undermine their authority here, in general discussion, is going to do a lot more harm than good.

Well this is PR. This isnt Vanilla, its not COD, its not Counter strike.

Your not in a training server.

When you join a public PR server, you step into a role of a Modern day soldier. You have to live out that role.

Its about the team, if your team needs a sniper, and your a great sniper. I wont stop you.

If your a Rifleman, and people need you. Thats good too.

But if you ignore your team, for the sake of your own "good time" Then GTFO ..

Server and gameplay dependant for me.

If it's a serious TW server it is rare a sniper is more useful then a trans chopper, truck or APC or some great guy running truck logistics.

If the server or time of day is un TWey then hey have fun lone wolf sniping!

That's awful - so many admins have their game play crippled by their obligations - some even spend hours teaching new guys things (like mumble :roll . Nice to see that the time people spend TRYING to improve the PR experience for all on the server is appreciated - I see quite a few server admins on this thread too....

Hates admins, heavy assets and the players that crew them - my god! Am I alone in smelling a troll?

i like the PRTA server, theres always a good teamplay there.
But reading your posts wicca definately makes me feel threatened. When my friend was still at home, we always made a sniper squad on every server. well, we locked the squad, one took a sniper kit and the other one had to join a different squad because of squad limitations. If i wouldve join youre squad and wouldve asked you to grad a sniper and leave for the sniper squad and YOU wouldve said no.... well then i wouldve joined another squad, waiting 2 minutes till im able to pick the kit. and seriously, im also angry about people in my squad picking up kits and leave. but not if its a sniper and if i dont intend to use it myself. SERIOUSLY whats the matter in someone picking up a kit in youre squad you wouldnt have picked anyway??? if it was medic i would understand cause you need it yourself, but you wouldnt grab a sniper anyway! SO WHY interfere gameplay by kicking one with a limited specialist kit which needs 10 minutes to be requestable again??? youre not benefiting the team at all with such actions.

He has a point about APC/AAV's and Tanks though. as much as everyone hates on snipers who waste the kit, you don't see the same sort of hatred for the guys who bomb around in AAV/APCs grabbing any kill they can without any supporting role for infantry etc?

Although his point was washed over by the view point of SAs, which is a little off

snipers still fail though. they are only in game so that the Devs dont lose out on the selfish retard crowd.

i would say everybody should accept this fact. and either they start being more strict as SA or stop flaming about sniper kits.
Losing a sniper kit because of an unexperienced user is far less bad for the team and the gameplay than having a tank squad driving around in A1 or M13, and that happens MUCH MORE OFTEN

Actually, I told him 3 times in 5 minutes to change the kit but he didn't answer me at all...
Then I started counting and couldn't wait...
And the thing is that he was rushing with my squad to flank the enemy...
I like sniping on Jungle maps because it is fun to spot enemy FBs and AAs and help the team so I am not against sniping at all...
I actually welcome a sniper in my squad that agrees to give me long range fire cover!
But that was not the case... Since I told him 3 times to change the kit... The annoying thing is that he doesn't type nor talk in VOIP, While I talked to him via VOIP and Text!

I second that, Muttra 1 of my squad got shot by a sniper we set a defence to supress the spotted sniper revive the fallen squad mate only for the cobra to fly in and take us all out with a lazer guided missile. The sniper marked and lazed us then shot one of us to make sure we stayed put so the cobra could take us all out.
Dead in the street lay 6 guys on the way to take out a FOB I wasnt mad I was almost happy. As a admin I new 32 player on the other side was having fun!!

Server admins are players too, With a shorter fuse some days. I hate being the only admin on the server its like having 63 kids some days. Other days I love it.
All we want is for players to show respect to other players. So yes one of my pet hates is some one coming into my squad taking a limited kit then leaving. No manners, No team work, no spot on my server. I`d kick them as well and let some one else who has respect for other player play on my server. On the other hand some one comes into my squad asks can I take the sniper kit im going to make recon squad and I`ll watch your six. Awsome I now have a 8 man squad 6 inf and a sniper spotter at my disposal. sniper Laze 100mtr NW of my position call in cas we are pinned. win win.
