Same hear I bought a pair of 5.1's 2 years back, cant recall what brand but the mic broke on it fairly quickly. Also the front speakers were very weak.

In a rush to just get something decent I grabbed the Fatality. I had good reason to get the plug in jack version. My Creative Labs sound card has an option for headphones with simulated surround sound and it works very well in PR.

It has excellent directional audio, is balanced better than the more expensive 5.1's and way lighter on my head. No finicky multi-volume adjustments either.

Love it, but for some reason I cant hear voip with surround sound enabled so I have to listen in stereo mode, drives me nuts.

I'm using some crappy $10 headset i got at radioshack. It falls apart sometimes, but it gets the job done.

Roccat Kave 5.1 Headset. I had the Medusa NX before, but 5.1 makes a hell of a difference.

Medusa Speedlink 5.1 home edition

Had bought multiple $10-20 headsets from logitech and other cheap brands, all which broke. Finally decided to spend over $80 for a decent headset.

How well scores the Roccat Kave compared to the Medusa?

5.1 is not needed for "competitive gaming" and is not really worth the money (ex medusa user)

True 5.1 headsets like the Medusa's and the Roccat Kave are only good if you are hooked up to a good sound card. So anybody using on-board sound is just looking to fail. And as BF2 does make use of "OpenAL" (google it, BF2 was made to make use of this technology). Anybody with a "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZX" or an "x-Fi" does have a HUGE advantage over everybody else in BF2 and BF2142 and of cause BF2 R.

I Can tell you right now. The Medusa's like the "Home Edition" are far better than the "Roccat Kave". I Have had both. So I know the differences. USB versions of the Medusa's are not so good as just like all USB headsets. It's just an extra sound card on a usb cable with speakers on the end.

1. There is a big difference between Stereo and 5.1. Sound seems much clearer and explosions have a bigger punch now. For me, it took my sound experience to a higher level, comparable like switching graphics from medium to high.
2. The Kave is much more comfortable to wear than the Medusa, since its earpads surround your ears instead of pressing them like the Medusa did. On a side effect this provides a good noise cancelling as well.
3. The box to adjust volume or mute the mic is not just hanging down and so it can't be tangled like the Medusa did.
4. My Voice sounds much clearer now, compared to my Medusa.

The only downside is, that i can't really use my X-Fi with PR, since it comes to BSOD when switching on the Ultrahigh Sounds on PR, but that are problems caused by Vista, Creative and or BF2/PR
