I just assumed the scoped was"zeroed" at 400 meters... Nice find. Props to you BadMojo.

The problem is people are using it far too close. You have rifles for engaging things at 50m. When you account for drop at regular engagement distances, placement isn't that important. I think it's perfect that it's realistic and that it isn't easy to deploy in a perfect spot.

Nice find with the slight bug, should be a little easier to use in the next patch. I'm sure people will still complain : - )

My apologies! I know when I'm beat. I just found it hard to believe that it was off when it seems so well calibrated at longer ranges.

No worries. And sorry for being so blunt in my reply :) I was a bit frustrated since I could clearly see that a problem existed, but nobody else seemed to understand what I was even talking about. And then you said what I was claiming goes against physics, while that was exactly the point I was trying to make.

And props to Mosquill for looking at the code. That was my next step, but I wasn't looking forward to it. Just thinking about the bug was mind boggling enough.

What threw everyone off originally everyone talking about the weapon "can't aim low enough", when the real problem was actually the weapon firing too high so it took a while to get what your point was :p

I found this image on these forums here once, but can't seem to locate the original thread. I am not trying to take credit for it, but it seems to be relevant so I am reposting it here.

As has been previously mentioned, the SPG, like many other weapons, has a ballistic trajectory. The optics have been set up in accordance with this premise. One thing that the graphic does not explain is the two markings on either side of the range markers. Those are the range estimators, not horizon indicators.

The one on the left, labeled at the bottom 2.7 is for estimating range to targets that are approximately 2.7 meters in height, such as tanks. The one on the right, labeled 1.7 is for estimating range to targets that are approximately 1.7 meters in height, such as personnel.

To estimate range using these gauges, simply line up the bottom of your intended target with the horizontal base line, then adjust the gauge until the top line touches the top of your target. The numbers across the top are the approximate range to your target. The number 6 represents 600 meters, 8 is 800, and so on and so forth.

Hopefully someone finds this as useful as I and the 508th have.

so essentially it works fine right now as for shooting, the model just needs to be realigned with the firing trajectory. And of course the depression limit thing the devs just mentioned.

to be perfectly honest i cant hit a damn thing on the SPG. it either flies over the hood or or lands way freaking short.

always prepare your position with a ranging shot, even if there is a bug atm I can still hit things perfectly between 400m and 600m

I keep seeing myself get credit for stuff I never did...I wonder how that happened :P

Chuc, on behalf of the 508th, and the rest of the SPG using community, thank you. 8)

If you have a hi res version around that's easier to read, we would love to see that one, as my paint skills are far inferior to yours apparently.

I'd also like to see the ability to be able to depress the elevation (point the barrel down) to a larger degree.

The other day I placed an SPG on a hill in Lashka Gar. It covered a compound that was an obvious staging point/cover for an assaulting squad. The SPG was flanked on all sides by terrain and was therefore in cover apart from the direction of the intended ambush/splash zone.

As it turned out the positioning of the SPG, foresight in building it there, and effectiveness of the FRAG ammo was completely nullified by the fact that insurgents trained to use a complex recoilless gun are unable to put a sandbag under the rear leg to get it to point down.

The gun fired over the top of the compound, meaning when the enemy squad did [predictably] use it the gun was a total waste of time. Instead of using our .50 techie to guard the gun crew and trap the enemy in the kill zone, I instead used it as an arcadey battle taxi to ferry team and squad mates to the compound from our FOB (taxi, death, assault gateway, respawn, taxi, death, rinse and repeat).

I hadn't placed the gun really high up, just high enough to give a good kill zone without being conspicuous or silly.

Was well gutted, as was my squad.

Edit: Also can't believe nobody understood the point about the initial trajectory not matching barrel elevation!
