None of the best players in PR use these sorts of exploits, and there's very good reasons for that fact.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you but you should really be consistent regarding statements.

Is the above quote an opinion or an assertion? If it's the latter then please take your own
advice and provide some data to back this up. If it's the former then please state it's just an opinion and not a fact.

It's a generalisation. Of the best of the players I know, none of them do any funnies with their settings. I do not know all PR players, I certainly don't have a shortlist of top PR players to check it again, but there is a negative correlation between how well people do and the likelihood of them doing funny things with their graphics settings.

Way I see it, Game is so old now that everybody should be "FORCED" to play with all settings on medium or above.

I Don't care if you can't afford it. Upgrade that old PC. I Am sick of players who have high end PC who chose to run everything on low settings just to see though walls and shadows. I Do know of a few players that do this. Very lame.

I agree. my PC I should be able to run it on my dads pc MAXED, but the game is so poorly optimized, damn bugs and performance issues on an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor,, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, 2 ATI Radeon HD 5770 video cards, thus should blow Pr out of the water maxed, but it doesn't...

My PC: Biostar MB, quad core CPU, Nvidia 250GT, 4 GB DDR3, i can't find the specs right now, gotta go back to my house for it XD

I'm gonna cut my leg of when someone manages to optimze the Virtual Reality engine properly. I think the PR team will manage to improve the overall performance but people will still need a powerful rig to play it even on medium settings.

Sorry for being on topic but I'm reminded of the old early shooter games like Quake.

Some players would change their FOV (cant remember the abbreviation, but it meant changing the angle of view so the whole game looked like it was viewed through a fisheye-lens).

It looked utter shite, but those players got a big advantage, because they got a much larger peripheral vision.

Which meant that players who didn't like to play like that were at a disadvantage.

I dont know if its still possible to change the FOV, but I know that when I played PR on my wideangle screen, I could see more to the left and right than i could on a 4:3 aspect screen. Definitely an advantage.

Ok, but that wideangle screen is on a laptop that can't run the latest PR patch at all, so my advantage was cancelled out

I believe that is how aspect ratio works. If it's 16:10 (or anything else wider than 4:3), than you see more to the left and right (in every game).

Not really. BF2 didnt even have proper widescreen support for some time, and older games don't have it at all. They simply stretch the image, or put black bars around it until it fits the screen.

Most games nowadays do have widescreen support. I don't consider that an unfair advantage. It's just going with technology. I recently upgraded as well, and now use a wide screen. It's just better, more immersive and advanced technology - and fair, because everyone who can afford it (and that's always the premise with anything) wouldn't have any reason to stick with a smaller monitor. BETTER graphic settings, better technology etc. should of course lead to better performance. The problem is when chosing lower settings comes with an advantage.

Higher settings always come with higher realism. Larger screen -> more life-like vision. Even the largest thinkable screen, a sphere around you, wouldn't let you see more than your eyes can in real life. Higher resolution lets you only see better as long as your eyes can keep up with it.

The issue is that turning off grass is better for effectivity in the game, but unrealistic, as opposed to a larger screen, better resolution, or having grass turned on. Same with unrealistically large fields of vision as explained above; if you can see more even though the screen size stays the same, then that's an unrealistic, unfair advantage, as a humans eyes can not do that.

Still, the only ratios supported by most games are 4:3 and 16:10. If you have a monitor bigger than that, the image will just be bigger, but not normally show more. There's exceptions of course. For example several screens. But still, that's not unrealistic and thus not really unfair in my opinion on what defines fairness in a game like this one-

Fair enough about the 16:9 widescreen, but I suddenly understand why I felt so blind while fighting in grass. I guess some of the other guys had turned their grass off. Must have been like shooting a fish in a barrel for them

It's sad really, because the next time I go into PR, probably I will do the same. Not doing it would be like playing the game half blindfolded. But I liked the atmosphere of the grass and vegetation, made everything seem more lifelike.

Grass is a pointless waste of time. Whilst you are diligently crawling through it and it is obscuring your view people 50m away aren't rendering it.

It just means you have to expose more of your body on hills and can't see properly when you are prone.

Getting a medium end PC is not over overwhelmingly expensive. Do some research.

4GB RAM.
1TB HD.
i5 x4 Processor
A 650W PSU.
An ASUS MotherBoard.
Plus a Thermaltake case.
Only cost me about $800 all together. (You don't have to buy it all at once, you can work your way to it easily)

The GTX460 is a high-end GPU in the 400 Series. You can get the entry level or lower series card and just overclock it. To add to that my GPU is an EVGA brand, meaning expensive compared to others.

The Hard drive and CD drive you can cannibalize from your old computer as well, saving more money. (Hell, you might even be able to use the old case too)

And frankly, if you are that low on cash that you would starve your family for a week from a new computer you shouldn't even be on the computer; cut the internet bill and the electricity bill.
