Looking at Codemaster's Dragon Rising, I believe the PR-Devteam should take a close look at the Ego-Engine. The game is due on October 6th...
Pros: Great smoke effects, long visibility, huge maps, bullet-drop fx, future-proof graphics, comprehensive editor, people can create their own (PR) scenarios much easier, direct gameplay feel
Cons: 32player-limit atm (could be changed though), higher minimum specs, game isn't out yet
Conlusion: Make ur own
Just my 2 cents

this engine is totally PRs future. Lets just hope they raise the player limit from 32 to 64 or something.
cheers

OP Flashpoint was made by the same creators as ArmA2, even uses the same engine, BTW the engine's optimization sucks bigtime, more then half of the PR players' PCs won't handle it over 10 FPS... That is not good if you want your comunity to go into possitve growth and not negative growth...

You are confusing operation flashpoint with operation flashpoint 2.
The original OFP was created by Bohemia Interactive who carried on developing this game
and this engine to ArmA and ArmA2.
Codemasters however bought the name "Operation Flashpoint" and developed OFP2. This game uses the Ego-Engine and is fundamentally different to the old OFP-Engine that is still used in ArmA.
OFP 2's optimization is very good from what first reviews said ("never under 30fps").

The Ego-Engine is proprietary so short of modding OFP2 (which we have no interest in) it's useless to us.
I think it's about time this thread got a name change. We have chosen our engine and the likeliness of us changing to another one is almost non-existent.

The Ego-Engine may be proprietary - but so is the BF2 engine? I'm not very much of an expert, but does the commercial background of a game's engine make it impossible to mod it?
Actually, CMS have just released the editors help file - it appears to provide plenty of modding options... and yep they do have a modding-forum.
32 players is a showstopper though - I give you that :/

I take it from what testing you have done, the C4 engine is suiting PR's need ?

So far it meets out needs. Mainly being open to changes/create what we want. Yes this hypothetically even includes fast ropes.

Sorry if I'm coming across as a dickhead. I don't mean it that way. Just understand that the path that has been chosen is for us to eventually go independent with our own game title. The current dev team is not interested in making another mod.*
* The Arma2 Devastation mod is different. That's a partnership we have with the mods developers where we allow them use of assets and military advice.

We have briefly spoken about Euphoria. Unfortunately the costs and legal issues with using Endorphin are too hefty. For starters, the only quote I can find is from a version of their tech back in 2004 which cost 12000USD for a licence. On top of that, if you're going to use Endorphin in a game of your own, they send a chap to you who works with you on it's implementation.
I mean, if the current prices are a lot cheaper and their rep doesn't mind sleeping on my couch and living on corn flakes for a while...then maybe

I'm sure its already been mentioned, and forgive me because I am really not that smart when it comes to this stuff, although I'm trying to learn, what is the issue with the cry engine?
the only thing I can see that is wrong with it would be a high graphics demand, and maybe short of players, no?

Too short a player cap (32) for PR's needs. Oh...and, it's very, very expensive to buy a license.

Maybe, PR community could donate to PR, and then PR could buy an engine,

im not entirely sure but i think buying a full game engine would be well out of the communitys reach. Im pretty sure those things cost $000's
