check out the screens from other games that use it; C4 Engine Images some of them look good enough to keep up with alot of modern releases, not that I care a great deal about flashy graphics.

No no no no no. It is completely unsuitable for Project Reality. It caters to a game like COD4 more than BF2.

That being said, the graphics are nice, but the C4 engine is decided upon already.

Dear community,

Thank-you to all who posted. As most of you should now be aware, the PR2 team have elected the C4 Engine to begin trialling development of Project Reality 2 on.

We believe that C4 offers a great combination of access to source code; true next-gen support; a supportive and accessible team behind it; and reasonable licensing costs and options.

Put simply, it's not going to bankrupt the Developers who are working on PR2 as they won't need to re-mortgage their houses to purchase a license and will give us access to a top-quality indie-built engine that should support all our needs.

Other options suggested were either far too expensive for us to consider or just unavailable to purchase licenses for (Frostbite 2), or were accessible but not considered suitable for our needs (Torque).

There are other indie games also working on C4, some of them working to a very high quality indeed. Some are still very much Works in Progress, and we do ask that people not come to the conclusion that another team's WIP work is an automatic reflection on how PR2 will be - or even on how that team's finalised product will be. We have a long way to go before we'll even be comfortable releasing WIP images ;)

So with this in mind it's time to retire this thread. Again, our thanks to all who contributed and we hope you look forward to seeing the progress we've made using C4.

Regards,

The Project Reality Team.
