I have no clue myself. If I did know at the time I've long since forgotten.

The idea of grand strategy intrigues me. I assume that's where a number of maps are identified as playable, and they're played in an "AAS" format, essentially like a map tug of war?
PS. What did CATA actually stand for?

I haven't partaken in any tournaments but I'm definitely interested. Even if it is small, if we could stream a competetive match with commentators and PRBOT cameras that would be cool.

Good points well argued Funk. A rare pleasure having a sensible reasoned response. What was good about PRT was showing players that otherwise may not have been able to participate in awesome organised battles.
That makes players stay with the mod and possibly do their best as SL s in public matches to try to get close to that level of game play.
I guess my point is I'd rather see new or non clan players enjoying a good match without the higher strategy then nothing out of lack of a team to run it or fear from the last few e drama tournaments.
Either way if there is any chance of any thing happening we can't hang about to much before the newness wears off V1.

There's always the tone of NATO vs CATA, or whichever previous incarnation you were branded with in the earlier years. The team identity made for a lot of the intensity and satisfaction.
This.
I get it, people don't always think it's a good idea to 'force' people to play Blu or OpFor all the time, but it's a choice you make when you sign up. But those that have played in the PRT, especially C6 and C7, they get it. The satisfaction and identity that is created by these little things is great. The Chinese propaganda posters for recruitment and battle announcements and the playing of the Chinese anthem on Teamspeak after a battle. It's the little bits of roleplay that made people proud of their team, regardless of win or lose.
For me this is an essential part of PRT and I would not endorse and/or join a PRT that switches teams from Blu to OpFor or the otherway around.

I see a valid argument for both sides, and it's something that would need to be carefully considered to strike the balance between identity and fairness.

Yeah, team identity was very unifying. Like feeling as part of some solid and people cared about, not something loose and nobody gives a fly f*** about it. Dedication and willingness to improve and stick around. That was main things that PRT had and I miss so much.

I think if people are happy to remain on one side or the other, then choosing a side (so long as they remain balanced) and sticking with it is the best option, to really give the tournament some rivalry and fuel.
Think of all the massive MMO guilds that make propaganda posters for their chosen side - it really is quite epic.

As some1 who prefers playing AK factions in pubbies CATA was a dream come true.
TART was just "lazy" and meh.. like playing clan matches w/o a clan u feel u belong to.

CATA was a glorious machine, the problem was that the tournament was often really imbalanced because of it(like people have said already) because NATO never seemed to click into a similar groove for some reason....perhaps because newer players were more attracted to playing as blufor, or perhaps because the NATO officers didn't get along as well.
Either way the PRT glory days are long gone, but it would be very cool to see a revival(which would be a ton of work)

PRT was good for awhile until all the egomaniacs and drama queen's heads exploded. I doubt it will ever come back

It hurts to say I agree. Last campaign just spiraled out of control.

Problem is that too many live in the past. PRT is gone and will not come back, people loved it, people hated it. It is gone.
TART didn't made it and I dunno why. Forums and graphics looked really good and I think the admin running it was very dedicated. But it is not easy to run a tournament.
However F|H is going to make a new tournament and they will not look at PRT or TART, they will look at the experience they have gained with organizing tournaments for over ten years. The admin in charge is also a veteran and knows how to run and handle tournaments, Lister is his name and some might know him from the BF2 or ARMA scene.
Drama will not be tolerated, sides will be with a few clans but the focus is on randomly new players. And the fun factor will be the goal, easy going but with good teamwork, same as how FH1, FH2 and other tournaments have been played and organized by this community, some will like it, some will hate it.
THe first campaign however will determine how the campaign 2 will be organized and played, if clans are too much of a problem then they will be skipped including mine, if there is drama, those people will be removed, it is that simple. Fun is the goal and great teamwork the result after that.
But the past is the past and always looking back will not make tomorrow fun. I love PR, I love PR 1.0, I love the gameplay in many servers I join. I am not looking back, in fact I can't wait for a good session tonight on whatever good server is up.
I am joining the new tournament but that is normal, it is organized by the community that is hosting my clan Invictus, I hope to see many of you there also.
