Personal Performance
I practised every day for several hours to prepare myself for the Pavlovsk battle. I went into teamspeak every day and played public matches with people from F|H and the trainingmatch on thursday. I also went to the SA trainingserver to 'walk' the field to check out the terrain and locations etc. I've been learning a lot during my first week of pr:bf2, and I feel that I'm making progress, slow but steady.
My biggest fear was (and still is) to make a stupid mistake and let everybody down. My biggest problem atm is to keep full battlefield awareness; where is the enemy, where am I and where is my squad and squadleader. When it is relatively quiet it's not a big problem, but when all hell is breaking loose around me it's much harder. Then there are many imputs I have to process in a short amount of time, a lot of communications and lot's of things to pay attention to. I'm sure I will get better, it's just a matter of practise and time.
Playing with F|H is one of the best things that happened to me in my gaming history, everybody is very friendly and helpfull, and I'm having a lot of fun!
Every mistake I make ingame I see as a learning moment and I think about them after every game to see how I could have done things differently. I listen to my squadleader and teammates very carefully and I take their directions and advise very seriously. Guys, thanks for helping me learn, it's is very much appreciated!
I felt nervous before the battle, but when it all started it soon went away. We ran to WB fort and then took positions outside, because it's easier to defend that way; Dutch told us. I brought the AA kit to Dutch, we swapped kits at WB. Soon after that the first landings started to happen at the beach. I think Zapata took postion on the beach near some fortifications and we all took position outside WB-fort, over watching the seaside. I didn't see the boats landing on the beach, but I heared that they landed further to the south. I saw a figure running south to north on the beach, but he was to far to shoot. So I didn't shoot, 'cause I learned earlier: 'if you cannot kill it, leave it alone'. Also I think Dutch also told us before or after they landed, can't remember, to hold fire and let them come closer first.
Then a lot of shooting started, so I shot back and went prone on the outside wall besides some cover. I tried to keep aware and keep my head down. Stay alive. Then suddenly a enemy walked around the corner and there I was, in a perfect ambush position. I opened fire and got some hits on him, but he didn't die, he retreated the same way back. Running after him didn't look like the smart thing to do, so I called out on teamspeak that an enemy was moving south to north on the outside of westwall. Somebody saw him and killed him and reported this back on teamspeak. Don't know who from our squad shot that guy, but at that moment it like you saved my life back there
Then enemy footsoldiers somehow got inside the fort, so everybody opened up on them. I couldn't see enemies inside, but I saw a lot of smoke on the far Eastside. I asked for confirmation about
the enemy positions inside, but I don't remember getting an answer. So I checked my map real quick to make sure there where no friendly's at the smoke and then I opened fire
on that position. My squad went inside the fort and Dutch gave me the AA kit and told me to go to the back of the fort and to be ready to shoot down a heli. I ran to the back and took cover behind
a container.
Still a lot of shooting was going on around the fort and at that time, I think at that time the enemy APC's also started coming in. One APC rolled into the fort and stopped with his left side exposed to me, 20 mtrs from my position. I think to remember it was smoking. I didn't know if I could do damage with the AA-kit to the APC, so I asked on teamspeak and Dutch told me no. I tried to hide from it, but then I got shot by it's indirect fire, and I lay wounded. I reported my status and was told to respawn. We all respawned at the FOB and moved as a team to a location to the SE side of WB fort, trying to flank the enemy coming from the beach I guess. Suddenly I saw an enemy 100 mtrs in front of us, moving West to North east. I shouted on teamspeak 'contact front' and Dutch (moving on my rightside) and I opened fire on him. It was like an epic moment, for me, to be moving together as a team and making contact with the enemy. Of course Dutch shot the guy straight away, don't know if any of my bullets hit but I was shooting him anyway. After that I got shot and was wounded, probably by an enemy squad moving onto our left flank.
Don't recall exactly how everything went after that, I know I made the mistake to go to Dutch directly instead of the movemarker. And because I wanted to be fast and join up with everybody, I didn't think smart and used cover as I was told to. But lesson learned. After that I moved North from the FOB, using cover, and then West to the marker. I took the AA kit everytime because I was told to do so. At WB fort I joined up with some guys from the Preatorians and 3 of my squadmates. We took cover at the outside of the North wall en took shots at enemy's around us. Everything then seemed to happen at once, it was hard to keep battlefield awareness. Then a part of the wall was shot with a heavy caliber weapon, I think it crumbled. Don't know if that is possible, but that's how I remember. I saw a friendly going down in right front of me, he got shot
with machinegunfire, it was horrible. Blood everywhere and I couldn't do anything to help him. I wanted to call out a medic to go help him, but somehow I couldn't find the right words at that moment. Then I took fire from somewhere, I have no clue from where; I think North/Northwest. That's when I died again. I respawned and can't really remember how everything happened after that.
Then we suddenly won. That came as a great surprise to me, I didn't expect it to end so quickly.
Squad Performance
It's obvious to me that my squadmates know what they are doing, everybody did very good in my opinion.
Officer Performance
Dutch is very clear in his directions, how he wants things to happen. I think that is good. He also communicates very well, tells us what is happening around us. To me, that's very helpfull. So everything good there.
Army Performance
Don't know about the army as a whole, but I'm sure everybody did well. I've heared and read AAR's about other units, everybody did his tasks well. I've read that the supply unit did
an excelent job and I know about the Preatorians holding the WB fort 'cause I've met them there during the battle. I've know that they held the fort until the end, I've got the highest regards for that. And we've won in the end, allthough it felt that the victory came too soon; because of the ticked bleed. It seemed like we've just started the battle and the enemy didn't get a real chance to match their strenght with us.
