People tend to join a clan so they can play together with like-minded individuals, saying you want to see clans shuffled around will simply alienate said players, and any clan saying they dont mind is a)full of shit or b)not a clan.

Raic raises a very valid concern, and I agree with him. I seriously doubt the Devs want to get involved/have the time for it, and I also doubt you will find suitable people to manage it. You cant put someone incharge of it who 1. doesnt have the experience required to organize PR matches(servers, forums, etc.) 2. lacks years of experience in actual competitive PR matches 3. isnt some random dude off a pub server and lastly doesnt even want to do it.

I dont see too many people who would be willing to run the tournament and put time in, needless to say effectively command both teams.

Unless you want it to be like it used to(biggest edrama ever, more tactical espionage and spycraft than in any James Bond-movie ever), you cant have the same people running the show again; which narrows your choices again.

As you well know, many clans were actually created from within the PRT to keep such like-minded individuals together when playing in public servers, clan wars and organized events. That however doesn't mean that they all need to play together in a tournament as it can be far more interesting to meet new like-minded players.

A group of clan members is equal to a group of clanless players that have played together for years, inside a tournament. Their preferences should not be completely denied but should still be limited, depending on their numbers, as to allow random individuals to be in the same squad and not be alienated in it. Perhaps such random players might even become clan members in the future as well... To be honest, in my opinion I only see the need to be in a clan when there is no PRT.

Yes that is also my biggest concern, not for the lack of signups but for the lack of experienced and dedicated players with enough time and will to take the responsibilities of a team's organization.

However if we look at passed campaigns, many of the experienced officers within each team, actually were bumped from grunts sometimes fairly quickly and were able to improve their abilities as their position required. So a mixture of experienced officers and inexperienced players willing to learn and take responsibility is usually what is required for a team to get organized.

Willingness to divide your clan for the sake of PRT depends on how much you actually want PRT to be back. Thats it. Really.

If you seriously want to bring PRT back: Try to contribute although you want to play with your clan. Im sure there will be a middle way for that.

BUT

If you are already pessimistic and dont really believe/want a new PRT campaign, please just dont argue for things that actually dont help bringing PRT back.

I agree with the point that the playerbase is not what it was back then and that the ppl dont read forums anymore but still, there are ways to advertise this for people who are actually looking for teamplay and organized battles.

For me, i became aware of PRT back in 2008 when i saw the fancy NATO/CATA tags. I saw Eversmith(remember him?) and asked him what it was, he explained. I liked the idea and checked forums and finally ended up as 1st Marine NCO.

This might be a rare example but i do believe that we will reach out to people who actually want this.

And yeah, Raic is 100% right. We need dedication in organizing this. Or it will end up like the old one.

Very well put indeed.

I also became aware of the PRT due to the MEDI/PELA in the pubs. And I actually think that is the best type of advertisement. But now-days you also have the news on the launcher and other official ways of spreading the word.

PRT was a big thing for me as well. That was a blast how much I gained from PRT and especially how much people I met there.

Its still nice to see all of those people playing. Like 32cap, Smiddey, RedWater (as my first SL :D ), Sneaky (for leading us till end), OReely teaching new guys how to not fuck up :D ...

Damn man, one of the best moments in my entire PR life. :)

Oh god redwater :P

Alot of the people from the tournament is still around. For me it was a good way to get into the "organized" gameplay.

We need the new players a place to train. The Tournament is great for that!

Alright, I'll rephrase it so it's clear for everyone:

In order to avoid disruptive players, as in trolls, idiots, egomaniacs, etc. which are quite common among public players, especially these days, I used to play mostly with mates. No where did I say clan people are exempt from this, you'll find the aforementioned kind of people also in clans, JUST that they are less likely there, because, well, they play in a tight group and I doubt people would tolerated bad players among them for long.
I'm not saying ALL pubbies are bad, on the contrary some are much more pleasant to play with than narrow minded and isolated elitists but they are becoming rare. Often you have to literally chew yourself through rounds to meet decent people, dealing with all kind of morons. I could write a book of situations where player x joined, took a HAT kit and left the squad, or player y joined, didn't say jack shit, ran of with a specially kit, got killed and started crying for a medic. More so on servers where people hardly care about such behavior, which sadly are the only populated most of the time.

I'm sorry if I anyhow offended you but you should try to interpret what someone is saying.
Sorry about that.
But yes, I can agree w/ what you are saying. It's pretty tough to play a good round on servers.

And I have that experience of player x joining, taking a sniper kit, left squad.
And the popular servers have those players you are speaking of.

I didn't get any flashing tags or titles, but I enjoyed playing, especially in the red team, which was a sort of a machine with very high level of intelligence and efficiency. Everything worked out so smooth, because people were dedicated to it, and wanted to succeed. That is the key.

I cant call myself a veteran of PRT, well not in the presence of Onil, Id be ashamed to tell that, and he was my teacher. I didn't came up to be a ninja as he is, but I'm glad I learned from the best. Lets not forget the Bears and disciple of the Rex. I'm missing those moments.

With everyone talking about the Tourney.

I wouldn't mind having PRT Back. I would definently sign up. Since you can learn a few things or two.

I can understand both sides:

1. I prefer my clanmates in my squad, because we know how to play together and because of bad experience with randoms...

2. It is no fun as random to stay as a reserve all the time in a clan dominated squad!

So here my suggestion: 50% mixture of clanmates and randoms

For example: I play as squadleader with 5 other guys using a buddy system, so we are mixed and we can teach the randoms how to play and I have still control about the situation. And if everything works fine, they could join your clan some day....

As a "random". I would not mind being in a squad of clan players. I can learn a few things and possibly think about being in that clan.

But I understand not having randoms. Some just wander off, some listen, some just join your squad to get sniper kit, ect

It doesn't seem like people take skill into consideration here. A lot of clans and groups lock their squads not only because they know each other well, but also because they're better than the majority of the team and they don't want less skilled players to ruin their fun.

This... But in tourney it still would be like - if you are dedicated and willing to be better you can stay, if rarely show up and be like "where is my spot on battleday" then you can GTFO straight away.

Why are you talking like this?

What is your problem with the DEVs regarding this issue that makes you speak like this?

Howdo you think this sort of thrash-talk will contribute the cause?

And have you ever played in a PRT campaign before?

Have you ever thought about the possibility, that the Dev team also need to find someone to organize a tournament like this? It's not that every Dev has the time and actually wants to organize a PRT.
