The minimap is what's called a Garmin, a GPS tracking device. It shows your location as well as any preset locations you've programmed in. The US army also uses what's called the BFT or Blue Force Tracker system, which shows, again, your location, both regular, topo, and overhead/aerial/satillite images and the location of any other BFT systems in the area. Presently they are mounted on vehicles but personal ones are only a year or 2 out, so the "minimap" isn't a farfetched concept. A little simplefied and more exact to be sure, but still.

yes, in 1-2 years youll be able to know which direction an enemy infantry is facing on your 'GPS'..... riiggghhhtttt
