The thing that irritates me, and it seems more prevalent in .5 is the travel time. If you dont have the new squad spawn point you wait the 30 seconds to spawn then you run towards a flag for 5-6 kms, get within 500 metres, get killed by a sniper settled in the hills/tower/crane, never see or hear the shot.... and we start all over again.
The other night I spent 80% of my time waiting to spawn, travelling from my rear base to nearest flag.
Why does the rear bases have to be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo far from the action??
Thats whats taken the fun out of .5 for me.
My 2c worth.

I see OddAngry's point because when you join a game the squads with the best rally points positions are always full !
Walking sucks but too many vehicles suck too so it's a balance.
I also agree with whoever said you can't just pop in the game for 20 min of shooting, I have to have 20 min to warm up lol
If I can't play for at least an hour I don't even try.
But on weekends I will play for 12-14 hours because it's addicting and immersive if you play it like real life.
Pipe, people make comments because we hear so much whining in the games by people who simply did not RTFM and blame the game and whore for aircraft etc.
There are many threads about things people don't like that can be changed but threads that claim the game isn't any fun because it's less like vanilla than before are garunteed to get a lot of attention.

About the "guns take 3 shots to kill", I think its fine and sometimes I wish it took 1 hit to kill. Countless times does it REALL FOCK me off when I shoot someone in the back and they turn round, dive and spray me.
I wish there was a delay for shooting when someone goes prone.
Yes I hope the devs are working on this. Doesn't seem to happen often, but when it does I think : "OMG. Am I playing that horrible game called Vanilla BF2?"

If you get frustrated with the realism on this gamd BigPipe, play Red Orchestra. That will really get you frustrated. Personnaly, I can't wait till they make it more realistic. I'm all about having an option for one life on some urban infantry maps. Nothing like some good upclose/indoor/street fights where you have no respawn!! Rounds would be quick too. Until the last jack that is hiding in the garbage can listening to the foot steps from the enemies as they run by.... guess not everything works out. But with an 8 minute time limit.... it would work.

All I know is I played Vanilla and it reminded me of a modern day Quake 3 arena. So I love this mod. Only reason for me to own BF2

What oddANGRYshot says is correct. While I like the idea of squad spawn locations the removal of fixed mid spawns by way of balance has shifted the reliance of reasonable spawn placement onto squad comanders who are simply not up to the job, nor will they ever be in my opinion.
There are only two possible solutions to this that I can see...
1. Return mid spawn points
2. Enlarge the size of squads

how about commander placed rally points...let the commander decide the general direction of attack....haha..more frustration!
seriously though i think the rally points work well but I KNOWthere will be some revision of spawn placements coming up...not sure what and where but it is being done.... we might have went a little hardcore on the last release...honestly speaking though people seem to be adjusting..

Walking suck, spawning into crossfire sucks, and too many vehicles causes problems.

Gotta go with the lesser of evils, and having a ton of vehicles being used for transportation and then left hanging around on the battlefield is pointless and would just cause unneeded vehicle overhead on the servers.

I must say that I do think Armored US Soldiers are a little weak.
The Interceptor Body Armor is the (class 3) armor equipped by US Army Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and contains a number of high-density ceramic plates that are each capable of stopping three bullets from an AK-47 at medium ranges. The ceramic plates are in the process of being replaced with a newer and more durable model as well.
Also, one thing I notice when I am playing is that there is rarely a commander in control or providing assistance to his army. This bothers me somewhat, because squads really do need someone at the top to coordinate their movements and direct them into combat. I am unfortunately not up to the task, but in thinking about this body armor question, I realized that at least nine military generals in Iraq and Afghanistan these days field the 'dragon skin' armor (which has shown amazing test results, stopping over two hundred rounds, etc). While I don't think it'd at all be fair (though certainly cool in a geeky Warhammer 40K kinda way) to increase the body armor of Commanders to that extreme, allowing them to have an increased level of protection might entice people to actually fulfill that role while enjoying the realistic benefits of their high-paying salaries. LOL. OK, maybe a flight of fancy.
Still, this isn't Vietnam, and Body Armor these days protects levels of magnitude more than it used to.
I think if it could be done, accurately modeling a system reflective of the Interceptor Body Armor for at least US military forces (vital areas mostly protected, with the ability for lucky shots to go through the gaps, more plates = more weight) would emphasize the need for aimed shots over spamming and decrease the amount of 'rambo' run and gun sessions.
I personally find I no longer need to pull up my ironsights to hit an enemy that is within 15 or 20 feet of me because the deviation and rate of fire is so great that it's almost impossible not to hit them if they are somewhat centered on the screen. Of course I use this tactically to great effect, but I wonder as to it's 'realism' factor. Do troops generally shoot rifles from the hip in CQB?
Hah wow sleep.

No. That would entice people to use commander as a God of all Lonewolves.

LOL @ Daedalus
I go to RO to run and gun when I burn out on PR. I guess it'a all a matter of perspective.
But I havn't seen the kind of unspoken teamwork like bounding overwatch and MG's taking covering positions on their own like I do in PR.
Realism is a standard, the tactics and teamwork in PR aren't there in RO and they don't have prone spamming.

i agree with everything that BigPipe is saying. after .5 the game go a lot less fun because of how easy it is for you to get kill, and still ive had to let of two buck shot rounds into a guy a point blank range. and some of my head shots dont count aswell. and .5 is extremely laggy

I agree with the name of the thread. .5 needs a patch to resolve the minor issues that are making it suck.

Just my opinion... 0.4 was excellent fun, my only main gripe was M4. Now I don't get turned on by this new 0.5 in any way. Too much hassling with special kits etc. shit to drive vehicles and every server seem to love this new game mode where you have to start from HQ every time you die.
For me this mod has crossed the peak of being "too realistic"... I guess the next step of reality would be shooting myself in the head. Apparently not a mod for me anymore.

Blah props for half-out-of-context statement quoting...
I said he shouldn't be THAT well armored.
