And by the way C7 & C8 are iirc 5.56x45mm NATO caliber.
Yes, they are 5.56x45mm

My point is that SF have different requirements to regular troops, making the use of the HK53 by MEC SF plausable despite the fact that the regulars carry G3s.

I have to agree with Bob on the main issue:

P90 for MEC crewman, please?

And I like the G3, see no reason to drop it, and have repeatedly argued for its continued existence. Now, with the scoped one for the Rifleman, it's absolutely lethal. Don't want to see it replaced.

Mp7 would be nice for the USMC crewman. Think thats what its called anyway. Also the devs have started a model for it, so would be a nice place for it.

But they dont carry it in RL.

USMC crewmen will be carring the M4 (M4, not the M4A1 of the Spec Ops class)

The US Crewmanz should really carry the M231 Fire Port Weapon.

And, since the team is working on the M16A4, they could easily copy and rework it into that.

The M231 has already been ruled out. It is only issued to Bradley Crews (which there arnt any of in the Marines) and is a fairly worthless weapon. You want to give the crewmen at least a chance, the M231 doesnt even have a front site assembly.

SF and conventional troops have different requirements. Thats why British SF will often carry C7/C8 rifles/carbines rather than the L85. Its perfectly reasonable that they'd carry different calibre weapons to the regular troops.

P90 for MEC crewmen!
So ur try ing to say that tropps perfer the 5.56 in some scenarios.
agreed.

however i believe its, 7 or 8 out of 10 troops in iraq want more stopping power with their sidearms and assault rifles.

why do seals still use the 7.62 m14, why did the us army reject the H&k m8?
the guys in the sandbox want bigger guns.

another "funfact"

most troops are aware of H&k's 416, some of the "brass" and members of congress have pushed to have the 416s put into service (or just the current upper recievers relaced with 416s) i iraq. Because the are proven to be more reliable and accurate in desert conditions.

excuse me please for straying off topic.

I was such a noob when I posted this thread...

Does the G3 have some sort of carbine variant?

EDIT: Found a vid of the FPW being shot off: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 2029533788

No, the MEC SF has the HK53, an ultra short "Assault Carbine" (under H&K nomenclature its actually an SMG) in 5.56x45mm based off the HK33 assault rifle.

There are two well known G3 "carbines". The G3KA4 formerly manufactured by H&K and the MC51, designed by Bill Fleming for British Special Forces. It is currently Manufactured by Imperial Defence Services, of the United Kingdom.

I dont know about the service of the G3KA4 to any great degree, but the MC51 was used for a very short period of time due to reliability and controlability issues. They were rapidly replaced by the HK53.

They are however, a rare, interesting weapon in that it is the only 7.62x51mm SMG (its barely larger than the MP5) that has been produced in any numbers. The new manufacturers claim to have solved the recoil and reliablity problems, however.

Also used by The Saudis and Pakistanis.

P90 for MEC crewmen!

i didnt expect this thread to blow up into a p90 petition, but more or less, a balance issue that would make crewman not frontline fighters. Their weapons would not be effective at range, making it so if they got shot out of their vehicles, they would be pretty much screwed.

maybe if the m4 can be modified to single/burst.. we might see some balance.

Posted: 2007-06-15 17:39
by Bob_Marley
Thats exactly the M4 the crewmen will be carrying. M4s, not M4A1s (current spec ops weapon for USMC). Safe-Semi-Burst trigger group and fixed carry handle.

by [uBp]Irish
aye, but the ones we have ingame are the m4a1's, so until we get them modified.. doubt we'll have any weap change for crewman.

right now crewman can jump out of a tank and fight like a soldier. In those cramped conditions i doubt they are prepared to fight a infantryman's fight.

Thats why just for the sake of balance, and we can fudge the realism a bit, is to give them the smaller smg's and not the full assault rifles. Shoot.. maybe even pistols, but that's stretching it.

The M4 is in the works, along side the M16A4. We wont be seeing a crewman weapon change for a long time anyway, as I would imagine they'll do it like they are going to with scoped grendier kits, with all of them being introduced at the same time. And that wont happen for a long time because they'll need an L22A2 for the brits, needing a new model and probubly new animations.
