this looks like its going to be seriously promising, whats the story behind the map? big armour battle to secure the complex? so i take it there will be an excess of tanks everywhere? if so exelent.

im just wonder (sp?) if the tanks will have a huge zoom . personaly i will keep the zoom like is now (or maybe increase it a little) , that would make tanks battle more "skilled" and interesting , because you need to be carefull where move and where you are aiming :) .

I like them as they are because who wants to have a huge zoom and then need it for when your closer to the enemy and it zooms in TOO far. IDK maybe a x4 zoom then x6 zoom?

excellent post.

Holy Blank!!

An 100% + increase in draw distance on 17km2 maps. :!: :!:

Impressive, most impressive.

Wow, this is at ArmA levels. When I played the demo, I had my draw distance maxed and I could see nearly 1km with the sniper scope. The bullet drop on the demo was very significant.

So, if you think about it, once 1.0 comes out the collective square km of the PR maps will be around that of ArmA (I do not count the water).

1. Jets and air vehilces will have way way better gameplay
___a. Dog Fights
___b. AA detail will be more fun seeing how you can see twice the distance.
___c. transport choppers will need to fly higher and establihs more realistic SOPs to LZ and transporting warriors (can't depend on the fog to hide them).
___d. Lil bird scouts will be twice as affective.
___e. In turn the gunships will need to fly farther way just like in real life. This is great news for the gunner.
___f. Strafing runs will be more accurate because of the increased view distance.

2. Sniping will reach realistic levels. (I am sure the devs are looking into bullet drop). This will slow the game down because snipers will be playing farther back and at more realistic SOP.

3. Tank Combat will be way more realistic
___a. Tanks sieging compunds from a far.
___b. Tanks battling tanks from a far.
___c. Tanks punishing infantry from a far, and vs a verse.

4. Infantry recon will be twice as effective and fun. Break out those binocs.

5. Infantry will be able to confirm motor/arty round impact more efficeantly with their binocs.

___

Well done devs. I am shocked that you guys are able to do this. :D

P.S. this is going to be awsome. 8-)

This new gameplay may require me to breakup with my girlfriend. I simply won't have the time to acknowledge her anymore.

Wow.

That is freaking awesome.

Now, increasing the view distance like that, does it in anyway take up more server resources? Or is it totally client based?

Thanks and great job!

I can't wait!

Oh wait... just make basrah bigger and add grass

(No, i don't like huge tank battles. Infantry pwns)

;)

and honestly, it really is a huge huge thing. you will see much much more dynamic shooting/shoot outs now that guns are needing to preform at their realistic range. For example, right now the m4 is a superweapon pretty much because its rare to engage at >200m, but when you identify an enemy squad at 600m, youre going to really wish you brought your m16/had a DM in your squad

Quite an accomplishment devs. Can't wait to see it in action.

10x Zoom for tanks with a new commander. I will have my Armor VOIP squad , 2 tanks (Challengers 2 would be even better :) ) and a support truck.
Waste that whole city away.

This is why we need artillery too. Get some howitzers ingame :)

Yeah gameplay will be improved 2X.

Smoke, twice as important
Suppresive fire, twice as important (see below).
Covering fire, twice as important.
Useing APC and tanks as cover while on the move, twice as important.

Gameplay speed slowed downed 2x. Sure you could play at the same speeds as .5, but think how much easier it will be for others to kill you when they are hiding and they can see twice as far.
Everyone is going to be more cautious.

Here is something we do not see much of, but will be more involved in .6.

Saws, 50 cals, and tracer rounds.

The gunships will be able to see much farther. Tracer rounds will help the team localized fire in hot places.

A spotter with binocs will be needed. They tel the shooter where to shoot and make corrections. The gunship will see the rounds and bring bigger guns.

Same goes for arty and jets.

Now the mounted 50 cals are going to be nasty.
With a spotter with binocs, we are talking about really close suppresive/arrasing/tracer rounds here people.

Hell, these 50 cals will be come like sniper rifles, IF the spotter and shooter has good communications and the machine gun is in a nice hide a way.

__

I cann't stress this enough people, casulaties will be high because we are used to the fog protecting us. No more. More RL tactics and SOPs will need to be devolped for every niche in the game (infantry/recon/sniper/tanks...)

On a map like this BUT with less armour, i would love to get my hands on:

3 - Landrover Rapid Responce vehicles (with 50cal instead of GImpy on the back of the vehicle)
1 - SL kit
2 - Medics
1 - H-AT
1 - Rifleman

1 - SAW gun (not really needed considering you already got 3 -50 cals and 3 - GPMG's but alittle more small arms firepower can never do any harm)

With the above, you could enage tanks and infantry with supreme ease and swiftness.
2 - Landroves can put down some serious fire, whiel the other out flanks the enemy and cuts them all up in the back or side.

The long draw distance would mean, you could actualy put down some serious supressing fire but have a high chance of staying alive due to the long range IF you stay behind cover, unlike in shortrange fights, where the enemy can just lob a nade or go round a 2 buidlings to your left.

The Squad who:

Is more disaplined at putting down supressing fire and keep it going

Able to pick the best flank to attack, get there alive and with some element of suprise......

Will win any and every day! YOU got the SKILLS?

yeah mounted 50s will become an amazing tool, and your squad would be stupid to move out without a landrover or humvve or some sort of vehicular support

i just hope im in a good teamwork voip squad, the thought of treking 17km is a little blah with out a good squad with spawn points & possibly a car.

Good point about the smoke. Hopefully that will be bumped up a bit and made more useful than it is now in the open field.
