From everything we know, the server and client executable would have to be modified to get this working.

Modifying them is against the EULA.

Since the server says its 128 players, and the server itself does not crash over 64, only the clients, I'd say its a fair guess.

It would be a similar change to the client, but as I said earlier, EA would probably flip if we tried to distribute a modified client, and Punkbuster might not work with it.

um... I would be completely fine with distributing a modified BF2.exe *if* we could make it work reliably for 128 AND <64p servers.

One thing thats bad is that we need more squads with 63 players on each team (commander is taken out) we need at least 10,5 squads, right now we only are allowed to make 9. Thats 9 persons without a squad.....
Then i would quit for sure

Actually, Im only really interested in this for the Tournament. This would enhance the battles so much more. The 9 players without a squad in the Tourny would have there own TS channel to join so it would work out.

Then my opnion is invalid. :)

The problem with the modified BF2.exe I forsee is what about other mods? I wonder if we could run our own BF2.exe without problems from a sub-folder.

Man 128 Players on those 17Km Maps, Itd be a Match for Arma quite literally, it would also be heaven for Aircraft and Choppers with Plenty of Targets and a good Suad willing to Designate Targets.... *drools*

Hmm, I know, that NovaLogic allowed the IC mod for their game Joint Operations to increase the player limit from 150 to 250 (altough most servers are 64 like BF2, since not all can support so much players). They even gave them their super mod tools, while the rest of the community had to deal with the limited consumer versions of the software...they got leaked anyways, so now everyone has them :p

And EA bought NovaLogic years ago, since back then Delta Force series was a big hit, so almost the same family...

Im thinking, that Evilhomer should send a request to the EA in the name of the community, and kindly ask them to let them modify the .exe to have more than 64 players, or give the R-Dev team the source code ;) ...

There's a mod for BF2 that allows you to make a single player game with 128 bots. Surely it can be applied to multiplayer....

well, all it changes is the number of bots the game loads. Having online players joining is totally different.

There shouldn't be a problem with unilateral distribution of a changed .exe file if BSS makes sure all mod creators are using it. PB is another issue though obviously.
