just currios, but what is the differents between bots and real players above 64 players on a server?? it sounds like that they need nearly the same coding( i dont know anything about it)
btw there is already a program that allowed up to 256 bots!

Well, just a simple part of the dif. is that bots are added in by the game, players have to connect. I *think* that might be one of the bigger difference when youre talking about them in terms of getting more than 64 players[AI or Human].
BUT, not really my area... is anything? lol

I dont know much about the current state of getting more than 64 players. But I DO know that there has been a way to get over 64 AI in BF2 for quite some time. I think the main thing is getting it to work over the internet with more than 64 "human" players...
Animating? Well, I could never get hold of the proper tools, and mainly, I am completely at a loss for time[school and work]. Unless you mean map, in which case, things are going just fine

I wouldn't worry about how many connections are possible server wise. There is another game I play that connects roughly 16,000 people to one server every day all day. Most server companies have incredible bandwidth, albeit they don't give it all to one server obviously, but I'm sure that a good server should be able to handle 90 players.
Is the fact that there can only be 9 squads hard coded?
Firstly, it doesn't matter if 16,000 people go to a server if each person connecting is only connecting for a short amount of time, and only using a small amount of bandwidth.
BF2 uses a helluva lot more than many games do; and like you said- that server handles 16,000 per day, not simultaniously
I suspect the game can handle 100 or so quite happily on most decent spec servers, but 128 could well be pushing it on some.
And yeah, 9 squads is very much hardcoded.

Doesn't prove much, Eve Online can take 40 000 at a time, it's just a totally different kind of game.

But whats going on? Is someone going to test it on a his server or do we only discuss this here ?

If we're going to ship in a whole raft of PR players to help him this'll need to be pretty organised.

Unfortunately most of us, including me, haven't a clue about how to get this working and can only bang on about getting it in game and the millions of pounds/dollars/euros/doubloons we'd spend on the licence for BF2 if we had it so we could get it in game.
Expendable Grunt wrote:Doubt it will work tbh.
If it does, how often would you get 128 players on that server?
You serious?! We'd just have 1 full server in a sea of empty and pointless 16 32 and 64 player ones

Has been tested before, didnt work

Was it this same method?

I recall two tests, using this method I think, and the server actually had 128 slots but when player #65 joined, it crashed.

Are you absolutely, positively sure? Cus' if you are my dreams are crushed forever...

I don't think this method has been used, although it may have. How he found which part of the exe's memory related to the server size is beyond me though.

i cant see the idea to set up limits.. they could just set the vanilla game to be 64 players, and then a few years later the game will still be popular, becuase the computers now is able to take 200 players, and now its it not the grapchic and the revolotinary gameplay that will be attractive, but the many players.. The game will still not be outdatet, and they will earn more money on it..
