I think that once PR gets out it's 1.0 version it should move to Far Cry 2 and its Dunia engine with a 50sq Km map that would be sweeeet

true take a game like simcity 4 created by maxis, taken over by EA, (totaly differnt genre i know) Simcity 4 came out in 2003 5 years ago, yet EA realeased a huge ammount of modding tools that allow you to make your own highly detailed buildings in GMAX, and the code can be tapped into. basically nearly everything can be and had been modded. This allows people to download various buildings and textures for roads etc which allow cities to be of a type they choose. Not the lame 'somewhere in america look EA chose'

By allowing this amount of modding, Simcity 4 a five year old game is still selling (EA classics or somthing) and has a lot more player than the current one Simcity Societes. (which is a porr sequal anyway leaving from the trusted genre sim city always had before, because EA wanted it to be easier to play, with a result that lost them most of their fan base)

epic fail

^ BF2 engine was made for BF2. Frostbite DX engine wasn't made for BF3 but for a "fun" game Battlefield Bad Company. In this sense we can think that BF3 is a BF3 societies. Just have a bad feeling that BF3 will be bad. There is a new concept here and it will be really different from the other series. I think it will feel like a graphical toy game.

EA has to stop thinking "Oh i think the community will like this because we do".

And start to listen to what the community wants! Thats how a good game will born.

I'm pretty sure they don't want a bunch of enthusiasts making the ultimate realistic tactical FPS and making their ritalin kiddie fluff look like what it is. Anyway as to the topic I would say shop around very well for the next engine and if the bf3 engine is that one fine but maybe it's not. Maybe there is a better engine that can do all that is wanted.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents to clear things up.

BF3 will be frostbite powered. Frequently Asked Questions - Battlefield 3

It will have up to 4k x 4k playable area. Wikipedia isn't my real reference, the pdf at the bottom of the page is. There is also more interesting info in that slide show about things to come in EA games in the coming years because most games will be built on frostbite apparently.

Frostbite Engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I also heard in an interview that they will continue to keep the BF franchise on PC aimed at "hardcore" gamers. Unfortunately for EA this probably means more BF2 style play.

I always thought hardcore meant CS, cod4 or UT style gameplay (PR being uber Hardcore). BF2 sucks compared to all of those imho.
