Why dont you make this ship, the copy the model and modify it into one of the other two ships that CAN launch the harrier?

There is the Harrier GR9 model knocking around which looked finished last time I saw it - hope its in 0.8! I dont think it would be that inaccurate to have them flying off HMS Ocean on a map. British forces always have to make do with what theyve got, and I gaurantee that in the right kind of conflict they would operate some harriers off this, even if it was temporary until a beach head was established.

almost any ship can launch a harrier.

But its easy as putting a plane on the deck. btw looks great.

AKAIK merlins are not usually stationed on the ocean

You'll be needing to find the g-spot on the Ocean. You gotta treat this lady right...
HMS Ocean has 6 landing spots for it's helicopters of all sizes (Sea Kings, Lynx and Gazelles, it can also take Chinooks and Apaches as mentioned by Jonny but as the Fleet Air Arm operates these choppers it makes sense.) Anywho back to my point, the g-spot is a small landing zone just for the 6 little Gazelles.

Ah british humour...

O.k. Morgan, I'm not sure if I've found her g-spot yet but I can't wait to get into a hole I just found in her rear end...
Do I win?
If I have, I'd love to see Al Faw Penisula.
I'm not saying she'll be done any time soon but when she is, I'd like to see her on a British Forces orientated map for testing etc...

What the hell is that pic of Smeg?
You'll win when you've completed that static for my map design. Just gotta get around to making it. Urgh...

If I zoomed out, You'd see her rear end.
The gaping hole is HMS Ocean's back passage with the ramp extended.
If you imagine the model I'm making being made from lots of components rather than one big giant ship, hull & all. It's not like it all has to be UV mapped in 1 piece like you might do with a pistol or smaller models. Afterall, the ship won't be moving and will be made from several statics placed together. It's still a big task but not as big as you may think.
The hardest part in my mind is getting it accurately built, I don't have any schematics to work from but luckily I have experience in illustrating functional artwork for vehicles IRL. I can make up my own technical drawings and work from them, I don't like guessing too much but I'm a bit of a designer too so I have an eye for certain things.
I'm still learning tho, I've just got the latest 3ds Max today so I'll be figuring out the exact scale to work at with the BF2editor etc...

HMS Ocean (L12) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aircraft carried: Up to 18 helicopters (typically Westland Commando and Lynx but also Merlins, Boeing Chinooks, Westland Apache), capable of carrying (but not operating) up to 15 VTOL aircraft such as RAF Harrier II
I'm guessing by not operating means it simply doesn't have the facilities to rearm & refuel them, but they can lift off and land from it.
Purdy model BTW, I much prefer the rear entrance every time though

Dammit I can't edit. By 'them' I mean the Harriers. It seems that Merlins CAN be operated from Ocean, but aren't the standard loadout.

Isnt that why he said no usually stationed on the Ocean?? I would take them as a placeholder for the lynx! But keep up the great work!!

For the Sea King.
Transport Chopper = Sea King = Merlin stand in
Attack Chopper = Lynx = Apache (Lynx works with TOWs and no gunner operated cannon so not a great stand in.)
