WRONG.baptist_christian wrote:there's no "joining" in China. you're drafted.
chinese law officially states that there should be a draft but as there have always been more than enough volunteers, none have ever taken place. the closest thing to a draft would be that high school leavers go though a two week boot camp to enforce discipline and thats it. every single soldier in the 2.5 million strong PLA is a paid and trained volunteer just like any other modern army.
the whole notion of joining the army to get food is usually from people who dont know the difference between the chinese and north koreans

See, they come out with all the fun **** AFTER I get out of the Army.
Say, do they make this thing in a Deer Hunter version? Could probably make a small fortune selling this during the off-season.

When I went with a friend to his National Guard weekend we had something similar...well, it was real weaponry hooked up to air compressors. You had to handle the mags, reload, etc. You fired in a manner similar to that of Duck Hunt for NES. Guys would run out, you just popped away. Had an M16 w/ M204, SAW, m240, 9mm and everything
M16 was my favorite, dropped a guy using iron sights from a couple hundred meters in an urban environment

lol. Must be some great medical training, realistic simulation of ammo resupply... Not to forget the damn accurate weapons, especialy the LMG's in Vanilla. Lol.
Though - maybe this is bad for PR. Now we'd have to agree that bunny hopping players are realistic, at least when playing as PLA.
Nah, but seriously, i wonder how exactly they train troops with that improved pac man...

I think the PLA can't possibly be playing BF2 for training purposes; it must be to pwn some American teenagers

Well of course it is..and what better fun than to blow away some US army characters in a game ??HughJass wrote:are you sure its training? I'm thinking its just a set up for the troops to have some fun...
Thing about the Chinese is that they have a culture and heritage that goes back thousands of years.
Also the majority of their activities tend to be group oriented so obviusly a room full of Chinese soldiers playing BF2 is a form of recreation for them.

Haha!
You know that Congress was scared that the terrorists were using BF2 Spec Forces to make a propaghanda vid., just like this.
Only the video would ave been more useful.
Why sare they using a sit-down keyboard n mouse game to train their soldiers? To get into the minds of American teens so they can fight us in 2 years, WITH OUR PHYCE!!!
*Chinese propaghanda in fliers dropped*
If you surrender Yankee! You can go home to see your mother, your father, and your beloved BF2 stats get higher! Go home and fight the Arabs, not us!!!

it looks like they are using a modified version of vbf2. look at the overhead map in the pics, there are defence lines drawn on there... seems more like strategy planning stuff to me.

Re: Chinese military using Battlefield 2 to train its troops
I know the norwegian army uses vbf2 to train but it isnt vbf2 in the context most people think. The trainers make a goal for example get to that house with as small causaulties as possible. Other soldiers are acting as enemies that acts as they would be guarding the house. No insta prone and such they only uses it to simulate an actual situation. Ofc ARMA would be a better choice but since BF2 is easy no much buttons you need to remember and I think they uses it so you dont need 20 hours to actually learn the games functionality.

And the marines used a mod of doom to train the soldiers, doom marine. Simulators are in use for a while, when it comes to the grunts its about training squad movement and such.
But yah Bf2 is a bad idea ^^ I can already seem the rushing with total disregard to cover trying to bunnyhop and dive
also I bet they didnt pay for their copy
(that they multiply a purchased copy is a given).

Re: Chinese military using Battlefield 2 to train its troops
are you sure these are chinese soldiers? as in, mainland china? has anyone been able to translate it? the site is hosted in taiwan and proclaims it's blocked in china, so maybe it's a taiwanese site illustrating mainland chinese soldiers using bf2 for "training", or it could just be soldiers from taiwan having fun, or doing training.
I'm actually from taiwan, maybe I'll see if my father can translate it more thoroughly later, if no one else has.
edit:
I would say there are some comments in this thread that I less-than appreciate, btw. but it's all in good fun.

Re: Chinese military using Battlefield 2 to train its troops
the news about the norwegians using BF2 believe Chinese also use it the same way. When the Armed Forces train its soldiers with "Battlefield 2" is not the number of killed that apply, but how well the team work together and interpret large amounts of information in a short time.
Photo: TV 2 Interactive (EA)
(Spillmagasinet): Krigsspillet "Battlefield 2" can be purchased in any spillbutikk, but are not just innocent fun.
-- "Battlefield 2" is cheap and easily available, and we've been testing out the possibilities and limitations of it, "says Deputy Head of befalsskolen, captain Morten Hougen, to Spillmagasinet.
MORE FROM SPILLMAGASINET.NO:
It is the Air officer school in (some place) who have taken the new methods being used to achieve learning by the officer school, writes Defensenet on their home pages. The objective of the training is to teach skills that officers rely on out in the field.
And then there's no weapons knowledge or the team to have hijacked the most flag that question.
-- We have used the game as a desicion trainer, not to focus on tactics. We have looked at how the soldiers read a situation, process the amount of information in a short time, and what decisions he takes. Leadership, planning, situational awareness, communication and decision-making is important, "he says.
"Rules of engagement" applies even in a computer game. Teh officers students can not shoot loose on everything that moves.
-- As a role-playing game
Players that would like to measure the forces with The officers on the digital battlefield, will be disappointed. Captain has no plans to submit a troop in Norwegian in "Battlefield 2" with the first.
-- No, we have set up our own servers so there are not many other lunatic who is running around. We are playing in a slightly different way and play out certain scenarios with specific roles. In reality, we have what is called rules of engagement and you shoot for example, not on anything that moves. Soldiers need to deal with the orders that are given, "explains Hougen.
Will continue with the game
Both fresh officer students and experienced soldiers are positive for the game after the test period, and that there is a focus on collaboration and decision-making.
"Battlefield 2", however, have major limitations, and the Armed Forces are considering the military develpoed game "Virtual Battlespace 2" for further training.
-- Games and simulators are being used more and more in the military. It provides realistic training and is cost-effective. Price was an important point in the pilot, a license for "Virtual Battlespace 2" will cost nearly 10,000 kroner. The advantage is much greater freedom in programmable so that we can tailor the scenarios, to provide a variety of vehicles selected equipment and the like. It is not possible with "Battlefield 2".
-- We have requested a license for Virtual Battlespace 2, "but we have not taken a decision on it yet. We shall now consider what we do on, but it is not impossible that the "Battlefield 2" is used in large-scale, "says Captain Morten Hougen.
