Not sure if im wasting my time here but its worth a shot ;)

Ok my friend purchased bf2 last week, he then downloaded the PR core and map files and he has been having no end of trouble trying to get it to run on windows vista. I talked him through the exact process of how to do everything (patching up bf2 etc, installing PR core before levels) but when he loaded up the game it gets to just past the BF2 splash screen and then it CTD's. At first he had bf2 working but not PR, then he reinstalled everything and now neither work.

I have spent hours scouring these forums and other tech forums trying to find a solution. I found plenty of suggestions which seemed to work with some people, but for my friend... no luck :(

I think we are fresh outta ideas, im not exaggerating when i say we have tried every single suggestion; disabling UAC, running as admin, checking his drivers are up to date etc. I thought i would post in here with the slight hope that there might be something that we have missed.

I just want to emphasize that we have tried everything that has been suggested here, im not trying to waste your time or anything.

I believe his system specs are:

Vista 32 bit
3ghz cpu (unsure of the manufacturer)
3gb Ram
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT

He seems to run other older games completely fine, no changes needed, he just boots them up and they run.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. :D

Tell you friend to check his monitors refresh rate. It's recommended to be at 60 Hertz for BF2.

:-( I'm having the same problem, changed screen refresh rate to 60Hertz still no luck - I'm running a 8400GS with 2 screens is this causing a problem?

Any thoughts advice would be most welcome.

Check your profiles folder and move it temperately to other location from mydocuments.
Then try to restart the game.
I once had some brainstorming in a same kind of situation where after the splashscreen nothing started.

UPDATE:

yet again R.J.Travis has brought to my attention an important detail regarding the fix:

If you perform the fix under a computer equipped with an ATi graphics card, make sure to un-install the C++ program and its additions files after running the fix.

So I finally installed Vista today and decided to start the install on 0.85. Having a bit of an issue and that is that my desktop freezes but I can still surf the web if its open. Now is this a normal thing to happen when installing the core and levels? Got Vanilla going and got the patch installed but the 0.85 files don't seem to be going. What am I to do?

Right as I type this it decides to start. Oh lordy..

PR under Windows Vista

Post by eriksson92 »

Hello, there!

I have a problem with my PR. When I am joining a server and press the "Squad assignment"-button I can't choose spawn point, the spwan screen doesn't even appear at all :? ??:
It works in a lokal server, both in PR and in BF2 but not online. It is so confusing!

I played yesturday without any problems. And I have tried like everything:
  • Tested it on another server
  • Pressed the Enter-button
  • Tested another map.
  • Re-installing PR
  • Re-installing the whole BF2
all this without success.

What do I do? Plz help me! I'd appreciate a quick response ;)

P.S I have added a print screen so you can see for yourself.

You need to run as an admin.

Is it okay to remove the C++ distributable after running the memory hack (to fix the memory.dll errors). Or, do I have to leave it installed to be effective?

I just installed the latest PR, and after the BF2 splash screen, it goes black and I get the attached error. How could I fix this?

Will I have to delete and re-download or reinstall PR?

Thanks

EDIT: I was so damn anxious to play, I forgot to update vanilla bf2, which fixed my problem

Alright, here's my problem with PR. I go to Mod DB and download PR core 0.85, and then the levels 0.85. My problem is not in-game, rather installing it. I save it to my data D and make a file for both the core and levels in different folders. When I double click it to download it it won't run. When I right click it and click run as admin, it won't work, but sometimes after like 10 minutes of waiting, the "Do you want to run this program duh duh duh). It will just freeze and not work and will have the loading circle just spin and spin and spin. I can start the task manager and end the program and it says it isn't reponding. I don't know what to do. :?

P.S. while I was writing this the thing poped up asking if i wanted it to download, lol i hope it works. But please leave any advice on how to fix it.

Guess I should post up a thread, this doesn't look like it's checked regularly...

Trying to install Project Reality on Vista and it's not letting me install:

Yes, I'm running as Administrator, yes, I'm running in compatibility mode, yes I've updated punkbuster, and Battlefield 2 works fine (having some issues installing special forces though, but that's another issue) but it refuses to initialize the installer for PR, I get the message:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your Computer's system information to see whether you need a an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I was under the impression that the installer was for both 32 and 64 bit (and if there's a 64 bit version that I just missed, I'll be very embarrassed lol but I checked pretty thoroughly and searched the forum and nadda).

Here's my system specs:

nvidia Geforce GT 130M
4 Gb RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 2.1 GHz 800 MHz FSB
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Any help would be appreciated.
