just taken anouther look warpig, some time since I looked at this and your map looks to be coming along quite well
Only points I would like to make right now is that your sun is really low, I would imagine it should be pretty high in this part of the world? The sky looks quite nice thou, but might consider moving the sun up a little more (you can edit the sky in photoshop

)
Also on the fields you have with the hay bales, when hay is cut there is always left over uncut grass on the ground, so would do some really thin bits of yellow grass over the field like I have done on Qinling
I can also see you have that Kangaroo sign I made hehe, keep it up

Yeah I noticed the hay grass on your map recently, I'll have to change it. Will also tinker with the sun position
Cheers for the crits, appreciate it

Looking good , keep going.
Only thing i dont like is the use of overgrowth.
It seems a little unrealistic but if you could show some ref pics of the area youre trying to build you could proof different.
Lighting is unique so far but will require some more tweaks definitely as the ground / sky / fog do not match very well if you ask me.

I'm pretty limited with what I can do because our trees are nothing like the ones currently at my disposal (wink wink). But what is it specifically that bugs you, density and placement? or just the types of trees?
As for the for the fog / ground well that's pretty accruate. We get thick fog here in the mornings, and the sky/ground, here I'll give you a ref. Any tips or crits you got, let me know it's still very much a work in progress

Yeah i know that youre limited with the trees. But i also know that someone is working on that
I dont really know what makes it look weird currently but i think its that the trees you use are quite high and strong but on the other hand they dont have any bushes or green grass below them which i think is unrealistic. you should use more different types of overgrowth , bushes , smaller trees, stumps , logs etc and try not to make the overgrowth too linear. furthermore just like you mentioned already the terrain is too flat in most parts and that makes the overgrowth look even more linear as there are not even tiny heightdifferences in it.
Another thing you should do is to adapt the undergrowth colour to the texturecolour. there is a setting for that in the tweaked bar but i cannot remember how its called. it can be set between 0 and 1.
regarding the lightsettings : im not saying that the fog itself is unrealistic nor the sky but they dont match each other very well in terms of brightness etc. if there was fog which apperantly is and if youre using a dusk-like sky which is covered by a cloud layer then the terraincolour should be slot darker imo. best is if you just play around with the lightsettings for some time and you will see what great impact it can have on your map...positive and negative of course

dont get stuck in one direction... trying out new things often helps to see things more objectively. sometimes you have looked at a particular thing for so long while editiing that you dont notice it looks **** anymore.

Cheers for the insight! I've recently started to add more dead trees and variation to the logs, bushes
It's my first 64 player map so I'm still trying to get my head around making a 4km map look pretty all over lol, but hey I do appreciate the tips

i have to say what warpigs done is fairly accurate, though that depends on where it is and the terrain, remember we have several cattle properties here that make Texas look sheepish.
eucalyptus trees have a nasty habit of dropping loads of oil filled leaves which kill off a lot of big undergrowth except for other gum trees. this is one reason why the Aussie cams work so well here. but i cant say (or i think could any one say) that there is a really clear way to represent Aussie bush, there are in my opinion far to many varieties.

just remember tho Australia is very flat. and about there not being bushs around the base of trees well unless you go deep into srub you wont find that in Australia even more so in the outback... i do think tho you should rise the height of the grass. As soon as i talk to rhino about exporting trees i will get thos to you soon.

I had it longer but thought it was a tad too long concidering it's undergrown it's not very good concealment as it dissapears. But I'll have a tinker
But like Anglo said, I'm trying to go for generic semi-arid coastland so it's hard to tread a fine line between massive virtually flat dense scrublands, and featureless rolling green grazing land
Let me know if this is what you had in mind about new sky though, I get what you mean about it being overly overcast but with not many dark shadows.

Its up to you... there are many skies that look good but making the map look good and giving it a good atmosphere can only be done by mathcing the lightsettings to the sky. go to th tweaker bar and play around with the lightsettings and you will see how it works out. you can do alot with it.
Right now eg. i find the terrain colour far too bleach and bright.

That's how it is, it's why our cams are basically tan with splotches of green
When i get those gum trees, It'll add a bit of greenery to it, and will contrast the tan of the ground hopefully

No tonnie. NO MORE ETERNAL SUNSETS! D:
Seriously, don't do any kind of lighting that is highly situational like dawn or dusk, while it may be cinematic, the mood gets stale very quickly..

I recommend that you do a retexture on the main grass your using make it thinner and add a little green to it something like this.
