ye then you will most likely struggle to get your head around the texture pallets system as its very different from most other games.

do you possibly know of any good tutorials to help us out with this? Id like to get a bit more involved here by creating a few 3d models and stuff, so will be more than willing to learn a thing or two

there really isn't any static tuts out there tbh.
How ever you can learn a little from these ones:
Very Basic static creation tut:
Creating Your First Static In Max / Gmax - Official BF Editor Forums
UVing tut in a simliar manner to how you UV to static texture pallets:
Uvmapping - The Other Way Around (56k Warning!) - Official BF Editor Forums
Texturing statics tut (not sure how good this one is):
Texturing BF2 StaticMeshes
BF2 Texture Layers Video tut (not sure how good this one is):
4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download tutorial_BF2layers.zip
gl, if you have any more questions make a new topic as this is going a little offtopic now

I will pick it up easily though (hopefully) as I already have a good grasp with 3ds max and photoshop and several techniques when it comes to coding and scripting.

I've used the standard Bf2 Editor before, and would be interested in making PR maps, if only for fun

. Only finished one map before, a flat plain with two huge bases at either end. definitley not PR style, though

.

Hello CRF,
[R-DEV]CodeRedFox wrote:When I was working on Korengal I had taken 3 months off of work. I worked everyday 8+hours. I started Korengal March 08 and didn't complete it until August 2008 (0.8 release). And this was for a 1km map. For a first time mapper I would expect 3-5 months to complete a map working 8 hours a day.
Just some food for thought. Your experience may vary as I'm kinda of a perfectionist sometimes. This is in no way to deter you from trying as having people play on your map is a great thing to experience.
thank You for this information. I wondered how long it would take to make a map for this game with a such high quality: ~ 720 hours.
Even if I would dedicate 1 hour per day, that would still be two years of making a map. Allmost unbelievable ... but also a very strong argument not to start such an endeavour if one is not absolutely certain. And it is a margin for the standard of PR maps.

codered also puts a lot of detail into a map to make it look nice, whereas you could make a good map that works well and is fun, and add pretty things in a later version.

OK, but still, as a new mapper, one would not expect me to finish a PR map quality standard map in 200 work hours.

Hopefully this will get a few good maps into the fray for PR.

first Rhino has to set it up. And that's if he has time, although I'm hoping he does.

Cheers for all the votes guys. Although there was many more people it looks from the poll results interested in this potential contest I doubt I will be running one due to some things that have come up in r/l so we will have to see.
Cheers again for the input and I wouldn't fully rule this out from not happening, I might find some time or someone else might run it
