it's an idea, i suppose the icons in squad chat would look a little like animated smilies that we use in messenger etc. Dunno if the engine will let us do that tho.
as regards using bf2 voip for inter squad chat then we should keep it and use it as the situation allows, many armed forces are using PRR's at section(squad) level (units less than 8 members) for short range non line of sight comms.
Personal Role Radio - UKSF Gear
ps i really enjoyed IGI's mumble weekend once i had figured out how the darn thing worked lol

Personal Role Radios (PRR) consist of headsets attached to short range transmitters/receivers worn by British infantry units, at section-level (8 man teams) or below. PRRs allow infantry sections to stay in communication whilst out of line of sight. This is particularly useful when operating in urban environments as the signal is strong enough to propagate through walls. PRRs have proved their worth in both Iraq and Afghanistan although the PRR does suffer from not being securely encrypted.
In theory, this is mumble, only with a bigger radius?
But i really am wondering if implementing hand signals, and connecting them with Commo rose would be possible?

Dude Jonny i agree with you, im just trying to find a way to implement hand signals

I agree with you as well on those points but for now I dont see that implemented yet. Didn get that you where talking of new features instead of features currently in mumble. I was talking about the current mumble set up. And with that you will need BF2 Voip.

Normal murmur servers don't care what version you have. We'll also make the PR murmur server files available for anyone.

what would be great is if you could code it into the maps... so... people couldn't hear people in buildings that well. > >

XD i'm.. very lazy.... and apathetic...)

So say we take away Bf2 VoIp, and replace it with mumble, which enables everyone near us to hear us. Thats realistic, its the same with the radio thingy, people will hear us, if we talk to other squadleaders.
Therefor, BF2 VoIp is unecesarry, and can easily be replaced, as for the element of surprise, i think if we could make animations in the BF2 editor, and connect the animations with "Leet" speak, coding whatever, to the Squad Commo rose. That would be pretty cool.
Like Stop, GO! Contact. Behind. Concealed. Right, left.
What other hand signals do we need?
But IS IT POSSIBLE TO CODE IN!?!?!?! IM WONDERING! DO I HAVE TO USE CAPS LOCK!
So, Mumble makes PR more realistic, adds depth, and makes it easier for co squad communication. BF2 VoIp is just retarded.... And retarded.

Wait? Wut? Im glad its been in the way it is the whole time, I give you that. I mean, even COD 4 or COD 5 havent got ingame VOIP if I remember. Its only the source games and BF2. So I wouldnt say its retarded.

Based on my needs i think it is retarded. We cant code it, and well we have found a software which if you compare them, Bf2 Voip, is retarded, based on coding, and quality aswell as latency issues.

..And people start to use programs (TS/Ventrilo) if that scenario happens. It's advantage, why not use it

Oh my! Keep in mind that Mumble just only recently popped up. I dont think BF2 would have sold as well or PR would have played this well without integrated voip.
Like I said before: Im sure glad that BF2 launched with the voip in its current state. It has everything you need to get a squad going. I certainly need my voip in every game. Wether I squad-lead, fly choppers or in a tank. Its a lot easier than typing or putting a marker down. I use it all together. And that makes sure I can play the game like It should and get people to look where I need to. So my last post about the retardedness and its unneededness.
Jonny? I agree with both you and Wicca on this that, sure when you compare ingame voip to Mumble it sucks. But in the time when there wasnt mumble (all those years) it sure saved me a lot! like with armor. By the time I have typed out: ENEMY TANK 255 (as a tank-squadmember) we or the other tank took the first hit already.

Im just going to refer to this than:

In the years when the spitfire was top of the line we needed them to save our lives. "Now we need tornado's and apache helicopters" is how my own quote above transfers to the style of your argument. Showing that we are saying the same. Like I said in the quote itself.

Cyberzomby, dont worry i get you
But i think its time to move on from Bf Voip. Even though we can secretly plan our moves hehe. Its more realistic anyway.
And well im really curious if its possible to make hand signals, and connect them to the Squad commorose.
Which would make squad coohesion aswell as teamwork and the depth of the game increased imo.
I hope the devs force all players to use Mumble, and therefor allow the game servers to shut down the BF2 Voip servers, to give players more latency, and also, if we get 128 player support, that they will have more "room" on the server.
But now im just wishing, im just really really curious, if its possible to make those hand signals...

Well 2142 uses hand-signals with commo-rose options. And there was a dev-post where someone made some saluting soldiers (for fun).
