It would be nice to have an elevation scroll instead of selecting a range like that, would also make it more difficult to use the sniper, but I don't know if that can be implemented, even with the 2142 engine.

I know there are alot of things the devs can still do with the BF2 engine, but it's like..
Imagine realism is a tank in a desert that is the BF2 engine, it can only go so far because surrounding it are the dragons teeth of hardcoding and engine limitations, sure the crewmen can still get out and proceed on foot (do the things that are possible), but they'd loose the tank (the full realism experience).

The sniper ballistics are cool, but if you look at Mosquill's other youtube videos, the 3D Aircraft HUD is even better. Ive wondered if that, or something similar was possible in PR aircraft for a long time. Id love to fly the Huey/ other aircraft without a HUD, instead just using standard physical instruments.

This looks very similar to the w00kie sniper mod, if only in concept if not implementation.

It's a nice vid, but theres nothing really wrong with PR's current way of sniping, the 8 seconds your waiting is basically doing the range card stuff automatically. It still takes quite a degree of skill to be an accurate sniper in PR.

BF2142 is rubbish by the way, just EA milking the franchise

Out of curiosity... As Mosquill's the one whose done all this work, why isn't his zeroing but into PR?

Cooperation with him would surely be a win-win scenario, no? I mean he WAS an ex-Dev, and everything in this vid (aside from the weapon sway) is currently possible with the vBF2 engine, as shown by the Wookie mod, (which he actually did the zeroing work for, apparently).

The only reason I hadn't suggested this sooner was because in the Wookie mod, they use the Caps-lock screen to do the zeroing, which wouldn't have worked, but he's using the Q-rose, which would mean it only affects the sniper rifle.

your talking about the bullet drop ye? What he did in the video is not like what is in the Wookie Sniper mod and afaik is not possible in BF2, hence why he is doing it in 2142.

No, the zeroing is definitely possible with vBF2. They have that, the MIL scopes, and the true bullet drop in the Wookie mod.

Main difference is that isntead of using the Caps lock it's using the Q rose, which I see absolutely no difference in how it should affect BF2.

Last time I looked at the Sniper Wookie mod or talked to the guy who made it, they where stuck with just having to use the scope radical to aim at different points.

I have not heard they have released any new versions or have worked on anything like this since there last release but I do know that the guy who makes that mod dose talk to Mosquill quite a bit.

Yea its already mentioned in my first post. It would be cool if it were possible with BF2.

You mean having to actually move the direction of the scope down x degrees rather than the sight on the scope? I don't know what you mean by the scope radical, though last time I played the wookie sniper mod (v1.2), you could select the range via Caps lock screen exactly like that of Mosquill's, and selecting an MIL/distance, the scope would rotate x degrees downward to zero the shot.

Yea, it works extremely similarly (although without sway and you use the Binos as a rangefinder), and IMO quite well. Would be a huge improvement to putting everyone on equal ground when it comes to using the sniper rifle so long as they wait the 8 seconds to set up, or the 4 seconds between each shot.

Deviation would still probably need to be included as there's no real way to produce true gun sway in BF 2, but it wouldn't need to compensate the need for zeroing the rifle, which you would then have to do in game, and could take arguably longer than 8 seconds even if you know what you're doing.

The key thing is to get proper ballistics in, which would be a great leap, but a leap forward imo nonetheless. Even if it's only done to sniper rifles to get those done up in game, it would be a great change.
There are many things for example you can do on the BF2 engine which you can not on the BF2142 engine, for a really quick example to name one, you can not adjust the celling in maps so after a plane flys 200m up, it will get stuck like it dose in vbf2.
Actually its perfectly possible. We do it for our space maps.

ye, it would very much encourage a spotter to work with a sniper to give him the range to a target with also keeping the long deploy time so you couldn't just switch back and forth on your own without risking the target getting away ;)

I thought it was you guys who said it wasn't possible? :p
