If Australians are added, then I recommend adding the FN FAL, the frontline weapon of many Western troops back then.

definitely was, but not in enough numbers to warrant placing it in a kit. Except maybe in a chinese invasion map.

Punji sticks or pit traps could be placed as an object all over a map in the editor but be inactive until VC guys shovel or poop on them. Maybe include a tree with a symbol carved in it nearby on the object.

I really liked the scoped M16 in BFV, was it actually used in the war? I'd love to see that one for US marksman role.

i dont think so. i have never seen one in a history book. photo or footage in the 22 years i have been interested in the conflict. but i never say never becuase i still find out new stuff about the war all the time, it was very differrent in every region and every year.

i have seen a starlight scope on an m16 in vietnam but that was in a base safe from vietcong hands. handy as they where if captured would be a nightmare for the americans hense they never left firebases

i reckon though the bfv designers filled a gap to put bums on seats

as to my understanding, the scoped M16 went through the test phase with the Army, but in the end they chose the M21. I have seen photos of fellas with a 16 fitted with a MASSIVE night-vision sight though.

Up until just before the "end" of the Vietnam War, there weren't a lot of accessories for the M16. There were a few optic mounts, but the weapon was never really used (or intended to be) in a marksman role. Back then, the only "marksmen" were Snipers. And they were equipped with other weapon systems.

The light barrel and older ammunition wasn't the most accurate, and while it was capable of performing its job as an infantry weapon, it was not even close to the accuracy seen in other rifles that were available in much greater quantity. The M21, M1C/D, and others were the only weapons usually seen with a magnified optic attached.

Just remember, BF:V was not created with the intent of being historically accurate, so a lot of the items in game were there just for fun or show, not realism.

You are no doubt referring to the AN/PVS-2 Starlight scope, one of the earliest issued night vision devices. They were still in the early years of NOD technology, and the PVS-2 at the time was high-class stuff. Compared to today's technology, those things are for cavemen.

There are quite a few images of the PVS-2 mounted on top of an M16A1, a good example is seen below.

Image

They aren't a whole lot bigger than the bulky AN/PVS-4 that I am used to using, but the PVS-4 has much better image quality, weighs a bit less, and has a longer lifespan. I managed to find the image below that shows both the PVS-2 and PVS-4 next to each other, so you can compare the differences in size.

Shoot from the hip mode for NVA to spray really fast, but be inaccurate... faster weapon movement.

Somewhat like the LMGs have deployed / un-deployed mode.

Modern Firearms - Rifle M1 Garang

As the website says, the m1 was used during vietnam. But only for a short while while the m14 and m-16 where getting into mass production to fill the hands of all the new soldiers.

Requesting all IRON SIGHTS for most guns.

This ain't Call of Duty or modern warfare.

Back then, and even today, most weapons have only iron sights with little to no accessories.

I would puke if I saw an M16 with a scope on it. First of all, it's ugly, second, it's not realistic.

So would I, that is unless its a starlight scope on a night map for a specific kit that has limited use, then I wouldnt mind it

Two words...
Punji Sticks

Also, no scoped M-16, or I will go and kill someone. This morning I used the scoped M-16 for the first time, and it got me killed, (Playing BF Vietnam here, use it for helicopter practice) I was using the M-21, and I got about 300 kills with it, and I die, but I decide to spawn with the scoped M-16, I fire and the damn thing misses the first 10 shots. Then the VC guy sees me and just lets loose with an SA-7 and blows me up. That's when I got in a huey gunship and just decimated all 32 other VC soldiers, as they were at their only flag.
