'[R-DEV wrote:Mosquill;1368467']Ok, first of all, this is WIP, so keep that in mind. Secondly, it IS bf2. Thirdly, dynamic sky's main purpose is to serve as a base for the weather system I'll be working on, day/night cycle is just a bonus ability.
You are friggin insane. I thought you showed us everything. :D

Nice vid.

In arma2 i remember it going from day to night in a split second cant it be made to go from only 2 times in a day like night to midday for example.that way night dont need shadows for building's and than the map can just revert to the time of day the mapper made shadows for?

A little unrealistic yes but if it works for one of the leading soldier sims why not for us.

masterceo wrote:Mosquill, I've got a question: the way nighttime works in your video is very realistic, however it's not pitch black so the visibility, even tho it's limited, is still pretty good. This makes players independent of NVGs, they could use them if they felt like it. Therefore, if you could tweak the light source a bit would it be possible to obtain a fully working night map without using NVGs? I know night maps have been discussed to death before, but your video proves that it is possible to make a decent night map that would be playable.
Why the hell would you want a pitch black war-far?

I love Mosquill's current night time with limited light source, its good as is

Mosquil, when i saw teh video my head fell of my shoulders xD

Thats so awesome, with that day cycle id play kashan all day long xD

This is really awesome, i can barely belive that this thing is even possible in BF2gine and you mentioned a weather system so i guess rain and stuff xD

Mosquill vs Chuc

Who would win ?

Now seriusly, the possibility that this new ability brings to the game is amazing ! We know that nowdays soldiers have NVG and they dont work quite well in BF2, but for us, playing under a low lighting situation would be fantastic ! And the gameplay would be remarkable ! I already start imaginating the momment, a squad holding a strategic point while the sun goes down

"Soon will be dark..."

"Yeah, I dont like it."

Or maybe Fallujah starting by the momment the sun rises, the combat during the day and then you are in the middle of the city after long battles and you notice the sun setting on the horizon, bringing that feeling that you won't sleep well that night.

Ahah, amazing, I know it is all WIP, but it sure must be in PR's future.

that's exactly what I don't want, since it doesn't work properly, but the nighttime in Mosquills vid is quite neat and could surely work.

Like I've been saying, and i wanna reiterate, as far as i can tell this would only work for Half-days, like, for instance, you could start Silent eagle even a little darker, but the end of the round it would be brighter than it currently is.

The shadows there already look kinda wonky since i don't really see a sun anywhere. ;-)

Shitty pixelated shadows and a framerate of 2 doesn't matter if we get day/night cycle :P

And the footsteps of armed insurgents making their way through the darkened poppy fields...or are those civilians?!

Lots of great stuff coming!!!

But does the night cycle even work with the shadows turned off?

It looks like it is just a completely dark map and there is a very strong dynamic light attached to a rotation bundle. And does it work for terrain also?

I have few questions...

This video use the dynamic shadow and light at "High" isnt it?
And for the players who play PRM at full "Low" resolution? Will have a diference at the lights when the game go mid night?

A map like Muttrah City, Ramiel or Dragon Fly, maps with a lot of buildings, have a lot of things to dynamic shdows/light work on... our PC will support all this changes in-game? like someone said, play with 0-2 FPS is not possible...

I played 3 years of BF2 at Low resolution and 1 year PR at Low resolution... Now i can play at High and a lot of shadows problems exist... like the shadow of a weapon cache at the 2nd floor appers at the wall of the 1st floor...
That kind of bug will occur to the new dynamic shadows?

Sry for any english mistakes
