Never had a problem mixing games and reality. I've never really been interested in a military career. But I have considered enlisting, but only as a means of getting free helicopter pilot lessons.

I joined because I wanted to work on the planes that I always see in games. I also joined for the benefits they give you.

Kind of the opposite for me, my interest in the military led me to Project Reality.

I play games for fun.
I joined the Army for all the reasons you see in the commercials. Be all you can be, Army of one, see exotic places, and of course defend freedom. But mostly the defend freedom bit, I've seen the exotic places and they are not that cool, plus people with towels are their head will shoot at you.

Also
Keep this on topic, state what you feel about games and their influence on you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is what Matrox is trying to get at.
Any more pointless arguing back and forth because some people have viewpoints different than your own will result in me sending people on vacation from the forums.

Royal Navy would have been my path if I didnt get accepted into the firebrigrade never could see myself doing a normal job tbh so no PR didnt infuence me.
Cant see how any game could make you want to join one of the armed forces really as no game has a realistic stand around in a base for weeks game mode

I wouldn't say Project Reality makes me want to join the military, but my interest in the military makes me want to play Project Reality.
You need to have a more military mindset to maintain the poise and patience necessary to play a game where you might kill only one or two people in the whole battle. And you also need to understand a bunch of military acronyms, phrases, and tactical concepts to perform well in the game.
That being said, Project Reality can help show people the slightly more authentic side of being a solider, since combat in PR can be pretty rare, wounds are crippling and kill easily, cover is a good thing, and Main Battle Tanks make people sh** their pants.

I did think about it, but no, games didn't influence me to join the military. It has encouraged me to think about it but war is not the same it was before. Nuclear weapons have changed everything. Everyone says they won't use them. But why keep them then?

I actually made the selection for the Norwegian Army's officer school yesterday.
And I gotta say the constant input of military in popular culture through my childhood, like in games, films and comics, definitely have shaped me and my interest for the army alot.
It's quite obvious really, with all the tales of heroism and alphamaleness from war that easily match young boys' image of how real men should be like.
I'm not sure to what degree PR has influenced my choice, though the many spent hours as SL probably have done its part.

I wanted to join the army when i left school, but seeing the, however nerfed and unrealistic, side of warfare in games it has put me off completely. Also the fact im petrified of looseing everything i have due to injury knowing that unlike ingame i cant just respawn if i take a bullet to the leg.

though I've always bgeen fascinated by war (the politics, armies, weapons and everything that's involved to it), I know it's one of the least desirable things to be in so a military career just isn't for me. playing video games did not change anything about that but they made and kept me more interested in different era's and wars(E.G. playing m2tw made me care more for medieval and early renaissance warfare). project reality taught me more about squadlevel tactics and the community subforum made me very interested in militaries I knew very little/nothing from
like the brazilians.

If this is going to be your main source for your research paper, don't forget to list the (probably extreme) bias in your target audience. Unlike "video games" in general, PR is a much slower paced, niche game that certainly isn't blockbuster, so the players attracted to it, and thus those on the forum arleady pertain to a certain demographic.
