In my opinion the knives and bayonets in this game work horribly.

The way they are currently set up, they are only used to stab unaware enemies in the back, and blow up FOBs.
But if you run out of ammo in the middle of a heated close battle, the knife is almost useless.
It takes about 5 seconds to get the first jab in with the knife from draw to hit, which is way too long for it to model any sort of close combat hand to hand combat. The current system is more tuned towards looking cool when you pull the knife out than being an actual weapon.

Just some quick thoughts of mine.
Its not COD where you can just whip it out and kill someone who scares u wen he bumps into u.

IRL how long does it take to un-sheeth a knife and use it effectively?

Well it is really. A knife makes you dead-dead as if the knifer is a Tenchu Ninja Assasin. In real life you'd take a long time to die even with the right cut, go to LiveLeak and take a look.

In the heat of battle you certainly wouldn't pull a knife and kill someone in a single stroke. I doubt you'd even pull one if you had the butt of your rifle to hand.

imo, the problem with the bayonet is that it's hard to hit people with, just like the knife. i feel the cone of fire for the knife and bayonet should be increased significantly. Remember that a knife should also simulate all other forms of strikes in hand to hand combat. an elbow to the face or tackle etc. same goes for the bayonet. Parry, thrust, smash, bash, slash, kill.

or otherwise i would like to see an automatic fire kind of function with the knives/bayonets. this is to simulate follow up moves such as swinging up the rifle butt instead of repeatedly thrusting which takes time. currently the stabs and thrusts are slow and take too much time before you may thrust again.
