Oh my god the new U.S. voices are shit...

Why would you even consider letting a non-American make the American voices? They don't sound American at all, and on top of that, it sounds like it's taken out of a shitty action-movie played by shitty actors. The American voices that are in-game right now are perfectly fine, please don't screw it up by adding your new ones.

The US voices, I don't even know what to say...

I'd appreciate new commo rose voices, but only if they improve on what we've already got. Sorry and Reload are both clearly spoken in a European accent.

Doesn't it go without saying that you need an American to do American voice work?

Judging from the video:

the volume ratio between the shoot sound and its echo differs alot between weapons. For example L85A2 and P226, the echo is much more noticable on the pistol then it is on the rifle. Shouldn't it be the other way round?
On most weapons the echo wasnt disturbing and seemed spot on; I could watch multiple weapons without really noticing it, even though it still added to immersion. But then again some weapons have the echo to loud, too disturbing.
On some weapons this is needed, like DMRs, sniper rifles and to some extent also LMGs. So the above text is related more to other weapons.

Civi Jeep. I dont know, it doesnt seem real to me. i just dont think it would sound like that if you drive in a car like this on such a terrain.

Those american voices are just not american :) saXoni Is pretty right here.

Other then that, superb job. Now I will download this and hope that you will continue your great job and hopefully get an even better version of this included in 1.0.

Cheers :D

haha, the actor is me. It was just for fun, since noone yet has made any better quality recordings it tried voices with my mic. Sure you can tell its not an american.

If you wanna get rid of the voices just delete the folder "english" in \Battlefield 2\mods\pr\common_client_am.zip\Sound\. Ofcourse these will never be in 1.0.

I would like new US, arab and UK voice actors to shout in my microphone. Let me hear your efforts guys! :D

Well actually they all got the same sounds all civi cars. It has been like this in default PR aswell as in 0.4 of SM.

Im atleast thinking of having 2 different sounds for pickups and common cars. But imo the sounds and setting are much better than it was before.

Haha, no. :) The voices was pure fun. Although I'm still very annoyed that people can't come up and try to act themself and buy some decent microphone. Mostly thinking of arab and uk actors since atleast there should be tons of UK players here.

Screw the haters. I think the new voices are awesome and it doesn't sound THAT swedish. I like the idea that you are having fun with it. In fact, I think the normal US voices sound TOO American, specifically white American, and therefore unrealistic, and definitely does not reflect the ethnic diversity, YOUTH and different personalities that is the modern Army and Marine Corp, meaning street slang, vulgar language and pop culture references are good to go. Also, the formality makes it boring.

My suggestion would be to incorporate MORE vernacular, dialect and swearing to some of the commands, for realism, and for the LOLs. Look at Generation Kill for reference. This may not make it into official PR, but for now this is your mod, so REALLY have fun with it, but give people the option to switch out if they don't have a sense of humor in a game. ;)

For example some variations:

Sorry - Shit, My Bad! / Shit, sorry man!
Friendly Fire/Cease Fire - FUCK, blue on blue! / God damn it, check your fire! / Friendlies! You idiot! / What are you blind?! / Where you learn to shoot!? / Shoot me again, I DARE YOU! /
Ammo - I'm out, MAG! / MORE ROUNDS! /
Enemy spotted - FOOT MOBILES! / Tangos! / Pick your targets! / Targets twelve'o clock
Go go go - LEEROYYYYY!!! (for lols, I think ppl will like this one) / OSCAR MIKE! / Gentlemen, ROLL OUT! (Transformers reference) / Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more (spoken like a thespian/poet) / Hit'em up! (tupac reference)

I need a Ride - Need a victor on me!/ Gimme a lift dawg! /Don't leave me here!/ I need some rims ASAP!/

Edit,

Some additional ones:

Medic- FUCK, I'M HIT! / MAN DOWN MAN DOWN! / That FUCKER SHOT ME! (Angry) / AHHHHHHh (Hit so badly that the only thing audible is your scream; note: make that shit sound loud and horrifying; or as an alternative make it high pitched and girly and embarrassing)
Thanks - Screwby / 'Ppreciate it / Mah man (Say it like Denzel Washington in American Gangster, showing appreciation) /
Follow Me - Stay close / In formation! / Form up! / Watch my six /
Fall Back (Great for Arnold soundboard or impressions lol) - Get DAWN, get to the choppa! / Get Down! / Ambush!! / Back THE FUCK UP! / SHIT SHIT SHIT, we're GONNA DIE!/ Regroup! / Disengage! /
Negative - No way! / Screw Off! / Fuck off! / Not a chance /
Roger - Loud and Clear! / YES SIR! / For SHO! / Certainly /
Reloading - Cover me! / I'm JAMMED! (Closest thing to weapons jamming and switching mags in PR lol) / It's a fucking turkey shoot (implying that you are expending ammo quickly) /

I personally would not mind any of the above, even though some might be silly. The way I see it, the lines don't have to be serious all the time, as long as it gets the message across, so I don't really care how it is said.

Hahhaa, you're too funny. :D Really like the ideas! But I rather have a real (youngster or better a present marine) american to do this. There must be someone with acting talents and a good microphone.
I did my best screaming like hell trying get the feel that Im in the middle of a battle. Sitting in my car, because there is the best isolated place to erase echoes.
My mic for voices is a Zoom H4N for ~370$. Really great for recording voices with a deadcat protection to erase spits and breathing distortion.
Im recording all my sounds in either stereo or mono in 24-bit, 96KHz.

Buy this americans and do it better!

Haha. Thanks. I can help you with writing the lines, but I don't think anyone else would have better equipment than you do. Honestly, don't be discouraged by the naysayers on the previous page. You sound 99% American in those voices. "I need a riiddde," line was your best line I think. It almost sounds like a Southern/Urban accent and it is pretty damn authentic. Your worst line is probably "We've got hostile (hawstyles)," which is the British (or super redneck) pronunciation. Normal Americans would just say "hostiles (as in hostOLS)." Other than that, your recordings were great.

Although I think in the car you can have privacy and scream, I think it would be better to do battle sounds standing up. You just can't sound intense while sitting down; it is a physiological thing with your diaphragm. You've got the acting talents brotha because you've got an ear for sound. In fact, real marines without acting training would not sound half as good as you do. So, I think you should try recording some of the lines I wrote or some variations. I think it would sound fantastic.

If you need a guide or reference, seriously, just watch Generation Kill. Listen to how they banter with one another to help you get into character. Also, not every line should sound like you're under fire. Plus not everyone reacts the same under fire. Some scream, some are cool, some are angry, some are sarcastic, some don't say shit. So you can play around with that.

To be honest, the BF2 sounds are too generic. I would much rather have some fun, interesting lines that show personality. In the end, the in game text "Need Medic" still delivers the message, but it would be fun and hilarious to hear something different spoken like "Shit I'm hit!" In hindsight, this idea isn't really new I guess. DICE already tried to do this with BFBC, BFBC2 and now BF3. The soldiers are all potty mouths, but nonetheless hilarious and interesting.

To USMC and everyone else:

Yea that sounds good. I'm sure more people can come up with more lines. It would be cool to have the first line be the default BF2 line or something similarly official and professional, then as you click the command repeatedly, you hear progressively more and more panicked or annoyed responses. i.e. 1) "Go Go Go" 2) "HAUL ***!" 3) "FORWARD!", and then finally mix in a funny *** line at the end of the cycle like "RUN FORREST RUN!" Or 1) "Roger" 2) "I said I got it!" 3) "Shut the fuck up, on my way" etc.

As for the other factions, lol I have no idea. At least we'll have hilarious American voice commands to play with. Imagine how funny it would be to hear a random *** line like "SHIT SHIT SHIT, we're all gonna die, retreat!" in game. Not every soldier is brave (Captain America from Gen Kill).

Whilst you are at it, some of the UK forces voice clips are terrible, (like the SF pack voices). Can you have a crack at them too please? :)

Haha yea. The problem with the current rendition of the US voices is that it sounds like the default BF2 ones, meaning there's a lot of yelling. I think we would benefit from some yelling, some quiet, some humorous, some stupid ones, etc. Not everything has to be a battle cry, some could be dialogue, some could be a speech, some could be banter, and some could be talking to self. Here are some samples I found:

1) Attack Command - FOLLOW MY TRACERS! (I guess you can rip this one, since PR's hmmv already has a clip from Gen Kill, the "Steel Rain Steel Rain" thing. From the same clip, "MOVE INTO POSITION, ENGAGE, ENGAGE!" Lol. Most people would get the reference, and it would be hilarious in-game.

2) Go Go Go - "That's what you get when you try to ambush marines muthafucker, you get dead!"

3) FALL BACK - Classic Arnie Line

---------------------------------------------------------------

From that clip alone we can get like 4 lines.

1) Contact - I've got flashes!

2) Go Go Go/Interjection (Like the Russian URAAA!) - Damn sucka, I just got some! / Right On, Right On

3) Attack Command - You're clear to engage

--------------------------------------------------------------

1) I need a Medic! - Pure Screaming. This is realistic because if you get shot in the neck or lungs, you wouldn't be able to call out. This sound would also contribute to the overall atmosphere of the game.

2) Roger That - Hoorah (for Army), and Ooorah (for Marines). Self-explanatory, no video. This would be so authentic sounding. Again, great for atmosphere.

If this post help, let me know, I can probably find more.

Hahaha, I remember that guy now. Stupid idiot. :) Those men get soldiers KIA. :)

Yeah I could try some of that you said with alot of swearing. But when working with the PR team, maybe there's a way to have more that one state of commo-rose. Thinking of having whisper, neutrual and angry/scared voice sets. Alot of work, but cool ingame. Some handsignals-animations with these voice-commands would be nice aswell.

But yeah I can try listen to the words you typed aswell as listening to the guys in gen-kill movie.
I really miss the "I need backup" command ingame cause I think that is MUCH more impartant than "follow me", don't you think? Who the hell REALLY follow you when you're a grunt? Do they give a shit if they dont hear you on mumble? :) But if you scream, "I need some fucking help over here now", wouldnt you go and check it out?

HL2 mod Insurgency must have the worst unauthentic US voices even recorded. With a computer mic? Geezus, my swedish grandpa could sound more american and realistic than that. :D Its like a guy is sitting in his little boyroom trying to sound grownup thinking hes screaming, but in fact hiw wispering so his mom wouldnt think her little computergeek to a son is a total maniac. That's how many of US voice actors for games tend to do it. Atleast in my ears.

If I'm not totally wrong, those voices in Normandy were taken from ArmA 2 (maybe stolen, maybe the Devs have an agreement with BIS because of PR A2).
