That tune has been used in too many battle/fighting/people falling over youtube videos...

Anyone else that uses drowning pool or disturbed tunes for BF videos gets a slap from me!

Seriously, get some proper metal down you!

I'd like to see an intro video like vBF2 has, something like the menu background PR has but loads up after the BSS logo.

I guess it can wait till v1.0 as the video might need to change after each release.

ps, nice sig Spike. ;)
Oh if its been used to death then don't worry about it, i'll just wait untill it comes out and i'll make one with a bit of Lamb Of God in it :)

Yes its a great sig, i have no idea who made it tho lol :wink:

Yes, then increase the view distance i mean, i can see only 600 meters and after 600 meter you only see this "fog" even on the desert map - Kashan...And btw if the AA-can lock before you see the aircraft this should be kilometers away...(in real life)

Well AA has a very big range in real life, but so do aircraft, that can lock onto vehicles....

Indeed. It is supposedly reported that the M1 Tunguska has a maximum engagement range of 8 kilometers. However the AH-64 Apache has a maximum engagement range of 6 kilometers. This is what I have read and heard, but cannot fully confirm this as it could be another country's attempt to simply throw thier weight around.

I'm not particularly fond of the way helicopters are used in game now. I can understand flying at an altitude of 700m high against under-equipped Insurgents to avoid RPG fire. Afterall, they do practice those tactics in Iraq. But hovering almost 700m above the ground against a well equipped enemy force with AAV's? I don't think so, you're just asking for a lock-on.

Care to be enlightened? U.S. Army (Field Manual) FM 1-112 Attack Helicopter Operations

But what can I say? It's a cross between realism, gameplay balance and engine limitations. As much as I would love to commit these facts to memory and use them in a realsitic fashion, the gameplay remains the same. You can only hope that the other guy in the cockpit with you knows what he's doing, and if he isn't paying attention you're dead. Simple as that.

And yes, I'm aware of Alex's and Mora's famed helicopter expertise.

How do get choppers to fly realistically? I never fly low, why? Because I am more afraid of tanks than AAVs.

Shouldn´t be like that. Why is it? Because in PR tanks have no bullet drop. It is to mimick their real life counterparts. However what is not taken into consideration is the PR view distance compared to real life. So the bullet drop on vehicles needs to be proportional to that view distance. I have countermeasures and a tone with AA missiles, but no defence or warning against a laser sabot round. Helicopters do not have stabilisation, nor can the lock on, and the hellfires travel slower than sabots.

The tank has a stable platform and can hit me easily, while I have to hover very still so that my gunner has the posibility to hit putting me at great risk.

Finally, a high flying chopper can take out a low flying one 100% easier.

Also, on kashan for example, there are very few hills to hide behind. So with all the above mentioned, I much prefer to fly high and get a better reaction time against AA than fly low.

The reasons why flying high in pr is better then low flying are simple.

When at high altitude you probaly wont be seen by anything except AA.
Cant be engaged by tanks main cannon only when the elevation is right witch is a small chance.
Gunner has a nice view of the map, can see almost everything that lies beneath.

The only disadvantage is the AA but with more distance there is more time to react and drop the flares.

In reply to both Alex and Mora's comments; yes I am firmly aware that the current Project Reality method of using helicopters is to remain at a moderate altitude within cloud level and above it's targets. These details are currently the most efficient and effective method of approach. This includes the points Alex had went to identify with the dangers of tanks and the requirements to remain as still as possible and remain hovering to offer the gunner a chance to engage targets.

An M1A1(A2) Abrams has a reported maximum range of 3,000 meters or 6 Kilometers. As previously stated a AH-64 Apache has a maximum range of 6,000 meters or 6 Kilometers. Making a Helicopter double the maximum range of a Tank.

Just simply stating that the use of Attack Helicopter's are "just one of those things" about PR that are hard to get to work right. But like I said, it's a cross between realism, gameplay balance and engine limitations. These factors are what limit an Attack Helicopter's true and full potential as it's combat effectiveness is meerly a fraction of what it really should be.

This is as close as we may ever get to having Helicopters function as they should. Simply the nature of the beast and it cannot be avoided in this particular game. Nothing you can do about it other than refine and perfect the other details you can have an influence over. That's about it.

Matter of fact this is partly the reason why I don't bother using them that often as they're more of a headache in my opinion. I'll keep my LGB equipped F-16 and enjoy casual sorties while the Forward Observer laser designates targets for precise surgical removal.

The game itself is pretty good.Minor tweaks are surely needed.#1The use of more humvees on all maps.Ive never seen the British rover on any war footage.#2Add the Little bird to Al Basrah.#3Night maps,turning current maps into night maps or a moon lit night so night vision isnt a factor.#4Mortar systems,maybe like fire base.#5Chey 408 sniper Rifle for US.#6Red Dot sights on any short range weapons(eng,medic,all spec ops,heavy AT).

Thats it for now but be sure i will add my other 4 wants in a bit.

new special forces units, like a map where SAS or delta force face off against MEC SF or just insurgents

could make for some really cool classes and weapons

* New skins for MEC- vehicles and others that need it.
* Removed H-AT + AA- kit on combined arms map.
* Hind for Milita.
* Urban map with Milita.
* A USMC v.s Militia map.
* ACOG/Optics for the machine guns.

I stand corrected on never seeing any British Rovers in war footage.You still cant get me to get in one of those death traps.A sniper can have a hay-day getting some easy kills in real life or in the PR MOD.I still would like them to be removed and replaced with Humvees.

On another note the little birds would be really effective in Al Basra. :twisted:

Why?! The British Army don't use Humvees. Nor do the RAF use the OH-6/AH-6. You won't find either of them in use in-game for this precise reason.

  • Some more really big maps like Kashan Desert (Or even bigger)
  • Some more urban warfare maps (More insurgency maps) ^^
  • US Army
!!!Airborne!!!
  • Cargo Planes (Like the Osprey or maybe even the C 130)
  • An Airborne Class (For example only equipped with a knife, an ironsight M16, a few mags and grenades, something like 2 or 3 field dressings because there is no medic close to them and at last the parachute)
  • If you got heavy wounded because of falling from to high the medic can't heal you (To prevent people from using the bug/glitch/however-you-call-it, with a medic jumping out of a plane or chopper and someone just takes his kit and revives him so you can airdrop a full equipped squad if you have at last one with a parachute in it)
