I had such a great squad too..

going prone to save yourself is a misconception, probably spawned from the shallower or smaller drops that don't actually hurt you much if at all whether you stand or prone. on those hills it is important to move backwards to slow yourself down but standing our crouching just results in you walking backwards up the hill, crawling is slow enough so that it doesn't completely counteract the fall.
the only way to actually survive a cliff or steep drop is to jump backwards at a steady interval.

I am pretty sure going prone has saved my life a few times. It has certainly felt like that anyway.

It was said to have been fixed, but if you're speaking about what I assume you are it still works...you just need to get your timing down.
If you want to survive a steep hill jump and hold S when you start to pick up a lot of momentum. The prone tactic is a placebo and as mentioned only works where you would not have gained enough speed to go splat.

I'm pretty sure prone helps in a way. When you go prone as you jump down, your first person view (and as such, the center of your hitbox) is closer to the ground already. When you then stand up while falling, your hitbox ends up reaching the ground much sooner.
It's a shorter fall. Going prone AFTER jumping should reverse that: You jump from a standing (high) position and as you fall make yourself smaller, increasing the time it takes to reach the ground, thus making the fall longer.
At least that's in my experience. I might just go and test it out to be sure.

Sure thing. That was only part of the calamity that happened in a short space of time.
I could finish the mayhem if you like, then you could use that instead. If there is space for it. Up to you like.

Some insurgent is shooting at the (dead) Kiowa.
Waveord is "WTF are you doing?"
Waveord then dives for cover, for the shooter has pulled out a grenade.
Insurgent throws grenade at Kiowa wreck. Nade explodes.
Insurgent is "LOLOLOL!!!"
Kiowa wreck blows up, kills insurgent.
Waveord is "LOLOLOL!!!"

I will say something they dont want you to know. When going down steep hill, you can hold S and bunnyhop. This will allow you to go down almost vertical hills. Keep jumping and hold S, simple.
