Shame to hear that. Maybe we could do something about those free kit squads in future...

If you see something that should maybe be done something about, such as 3 free kit squads, just report it so the admins see it. As l4gi said, he was alone admining tonight, so he couldnt see those squads. By reporting he could have disbanded them.

Pretty good and close games yesterday. Looking for more feedback.

I haven't seen this server up for a few days now. I really miss playing on this server. Did something happen? Or am I just looking at the wrong times?

Server is definitely still active, may just not be as active as previously for now, i believe a lot of our main admins are getting a bit burnt out doing all the work. We will discuss this internally but thank you for the concern

Yeee buddy! We're running our server again for the WW2 thingy.

Ok, first off all, I had a pleasant time on the OD-S Server for as long as the WW2 server has been running. Even with the lack of admins(hopefully sometime in the future you can do something about that?) on some hours of the day people behaved for the most part and the games proceeded without mass TKs and other bullshit that would usually happen if the server was not administered at any given point in time. Or if they did, I didn't witness that at the very least.

One thing however that I hope to not witness again(or at the very least I would like to see it being dealt with) is the endorsement of Nazi Symbolism, Ideology or Terms. In this case a fellow named his squad "Waffen SS", a clear case of taking(a joke?) it too far in my opinion. Now, we all know that WW2 is like heaven for jokes ridiculing the Third Reich, bad German grammar and total retardation, no biggie, dude get's reported, let's move on. But apparently I'm wrong as the Waffen SS is more like "Rangers", according to someone from your admin team and thus totally an appropriate thing to use. You know, I love me some dark humour, even over the Holocaust because it was insanity that befell all these people, but that needs to happen in the appropriate context, which was, in this case, not present, the squad henceforth should've been removed. I hope this is the last time I see such a bad call from your admin team.

I agree that there was a clear lack of admins in the beginning of the week. Mostly because of the holidays, and the fact that the beta came without much warning. We had like an hour to set the server up.
For the later part of the week we've tried to play as much as possible, and we've had people on PRISM most of the time when no one was ingame. PRISM admins doesn't show with the !admins command though.
An unfortunate side effect of having only a few servers in the beta have also meant that the server seeds itself outside of our normal play hours, unlike in vanilla PR. But it seemed like a worse option to turn it off when the beta is so limited.

Let's just begin with saying that we of course don't endorse Nazism. And I know that you realize that as well.

What happened here was that a squad on the German team was reported for having the name "Waffen SS". The admins that were online talked it over on Teamspeak and came to the conclusion that it doesn't violate any rule in our current rule set. Given the neutral way it was made(ie not "Waffen SS ftw" or something like that) and the context of a German team in a WW2 mod it was agreed upon to let it be this time. Had it been on some other mod with another faction, it would probably not have been accepted.
But it is a very borderline subject, so we have started a discussion internally about potentially updating the ruleset, and also how to approach such sensitive yet historical names/terms/messages/whatever. It's all about where to draw the line, and simply saying that "SS" is banned doesn't provide a proper foundation to base decisions on - it just deals with one very specific case.
The comparison to "Rangers" was not made by me, so I can't really comment on that. I would probably say that a better comparison would perhaps be reenactors wearing SS uniforms? That's a thing that happens.

Just to put it in perspective a guy heiling(is that even a word?) in chat before was instantly banned. It's not like we like these things.

I had fun on your server when I was playing. There was, as others have said in this thread and outside of it, that the lack of admins was disrupting gameplay. Hopefully it has been fixed now.

As for L4gi, the OD-S clan leader(maybe not the right word, leader implies responsibilites), he seems to be a very angry person. I remember a few months ago ramming his T-62 with the T-90 in Kozelsk on some other server - twice. He got so pissed off he banned me from their Teamspeak with "Hook you in the gabber m8" or something to that effect as the ban message. While of course, OD-S is his clan, it just shows you how immature he is. You would figure someone that has so much responsibility to be a little bit more civil in treating other players. Yeah, I defeated him twice via a perfectly reasonable tactic and he got upset. I think he felt my tactic just "wasn't fair" so he chose to ban me. I also remember when he got banned from the PR Tournament a while back, or something to that effect.

Also, the scrolling text that says "Remember to be FAIR" is completely against everything OD-S is about. Can anyone name a clan that is more notorious for outlandish rushes that ruin a whole teams gameplay for their own personal (not their team's) gain?

So my claimed equivalence of naming your squad "Rangers" to naming it "Waffen SS" was clearly the wrong thing to say in-game when I had neither the means nor the time to back it up sufficiently, but I don't think that the underlying point - that in the context of a WW2 game representing a branch of the armed forces of either side should be considered morally neutral - is at all foolish. I did write a fairly detailed defence of it, but then I managed to delete it all so I'll summarise instead.

1. In PR WW2 you are, to some extent, roleplaying as members of the fighting forces of either the USA or the Third Reich
2. There is an acceptable level of actual roleplaying in squad names (e.g. naming your squad "13. Pz Gdr" is generally considered OK)
3. The Waffen SS was a fighting force of the Third Reich, similar in most respects to the Wehrmacht, and similar in many respects to its counterparts on the Allied side (such as the US Army rangers) insofar as it was a largely conventional military force. I am obviously not saying that they are moral equivalents
4. The Waffen SS was famous for its commitment of warcrimes, but it was not unique in this regard, the Wehrmacht commited extensive massacres of civilians, murder of POWs and countless other crimes that were legally and morally crimes even in the context of the time.
5. If it is considered acceptable to roleplay with your squadnames as a Wehrmacht division (or indeed the NKVD or KGB in the context of Russian Army) then there is no fundamental reason why "Waffen SS" is not an acceptable name

Ultimately, it is a sliding scale, as you state. There is no clear cut-off between the clearly acceptable "Werhmacht" and the fairly inexcusable "Einsatzgruppen" or "Hitler Jugend". This means it comes down to what we think is acceptable, and of the admins online, nobody found "Waffen SS" to be an unacceptable squad name in the context of a game simulating an actual WW2 engagement. If someone named their squad similarly on Yamalia, we may well have a very different opinion!

EDIT: Looking up the battle of Carentan, it seems that the 17th (Waffen-SS) Panzergrenadier division was the spearhead of the German counterattack, so that squad name was actually historically accurate.

The only time it has done any damage is when I've wanted to pop onto your server and alert any admins of issues on your server, namely when some aren't actually on the server. Or when I want to play with Headless or someone else. Not salty myself, just confused how salty you were...
