We already have different smaller rocks that mappers can use to build cliffs. Another example of that would be Baracuda supply fort at the water fall. There is a pretty nice cliff. Of course those "lego-cliffs" are less optimized than custom made ones, but allow lots of freedom for mappers. Also cliffs and rocks are not that hard to make, any mapper could easily make some themselves i think :)
Also we are limited at how many statics we add. The first limit is disc space. Every new static will make the installation bigger. This is not that big of a problem since PR is still tiny compared to modern games, but should still be considered.
The second and more problematic limit is through the way the BF2 engine loads stuff. Basically it loads everything and then sorts out what it needs and unloads not needed stuff again. Those are the reasons why we do not add stuff that someone somewhere might use some time. We actually are doing the opposite and are trying to remove things that are not used by any of our core maps.

Bottom line this means longer Map-loading.. And thats all.

From the information you give me, the only thing I conclude is it would not influence in-game performance even if we had 20 000 different rocks type

Longer map loading AND higher chance of client crash on map load. I know a couple of people already crash after a couple of maps as they run out of memory due to BF2 shitty memory management. Once in game only the rocks placed on the map would matter.

That really is a major flaw.

I can see now that PR lifetime will have an expiration date...

Unless some badass programmers come put a touch of excellence in the core. And modify these weaknesses.
Like the fact that BF2 will only use 1 processor in your computer..

With 20+ Gig's games of todays, I thought there was space for incredible amount of new content and therefore alot of potential for PR future.

But everything is stretched to its maximum already O_o


Unless one day you decide to give it a fresh new start and remove all the map, return to Zero and
make new content but this time with all the knowledge gathered in the past years to only release extremely optimized maps/meshes/animation/sounds/TEXTURES.. etc etc

Haha, textures palettes needs to be redone :P

This wont put an expiration date on PR. These limits have been there since the beginning and we added quite some content. There is also room for more, but we would rather not spend it on statics that may never be used :) We have a repository full of all sorts of models that were no longer used in PR and got removed (some because they were broken). Our mappers can get stuff from there or if they need something special they ask for it.
I really do not want to stop you from creating statics, but just explain why they might never be used. Your flowerpot, bin and bus station all seem to be for more modern urban maps just like the skyscrapers. Making prop sets for new environments is always nice especially if you are working together with a mapper that currently works on a map for it (turkish_moose). I would continue that path instead of making things that you think should be added to existing maps. Even if the community mappers might not ask for it directly, you can just look at what maps are being made and then create something you would like to see. E.g. elephant skeletons for Sahel :p

(And don't deny it, the topographic aspect in the big majority of PR maps lacks of Rocky realism)

Anyhow, unless you had specific intention for the Machbet, I intended to chill.
Once in a while I rationalize and to be honest, I negleted alot my life in the last 3 weeks

(I was literally only modelling in 3dsmax days n' night)

I might get back in shape and comeback with a regular pace


Since anyway my intensity was not welcomed, I will adopt a slower mood
Or maybe i'll just do stuff on demand like I wrote in my signature

And bushes.. Alot of bushes, mixed with rocks
Because, thats how it looks like IRL
(Maybe with a new set of bushes optimized to be stacked in groups

The Machbet would replace the Avenger as AAV for the IDF. But that is future stuff and not for next patch or anything, so take your time. I know the feeling of spending too much on modding PR. Right now i should be learning for physics exam and lurking forums instead :p

-I take the commander post to setup a FOB in fallujah, server is seeding, 25v25 ...

I guess working too much makes you crazy and PR was all he had.I admired him for his modelling enthusiasm. When i was a newbie, i too got banned from servers,but then i learned what was permitted and how to operate on the battlefield and so forth.
