We had a laugh doing the "hitman 11 this is hitman actual" on Kashan, just a laugh not real RPing or whatever

Really don't care. I'm usually casual or unenthusiastic on VOIP but if caught in a surprise ambush or seeing a big red coming my way, I start yelling and cursing.

As long as they don't call me a "cupcake" like this one guy did I'm fine...

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
It bothers me more when someone doesn't have their mic set up properly. It's either to loud & causes pain in my ears, to soft & I'm saying "What? Can you say that again?" or filled with feedback/background noise/static.
I do prefer a more realistic communication going on in my squad, only the essential information, but I can live with people chatting too just as long as they take care of business when the time comes.
What I really don't like is people screaming into the mic.... for whatever reason.

Anyone who hasn't yelled "ALLAH ACKBAR!" Into their mic just before blowing up the Challenger II with a bomb car on Basrah doesn't really have their heart in the game

No, not really. Though, maybe that's because I'm so used to Scot and Robbi swearing at every other word that you seem to never swear in comparisonColonelcool125 wrote:I usually swear a lot and say "F*CK" really loudly when I die.

Dude, that is the most fun thing ever, if you're insurgent or taliban you have to yell "Allahu akbar!" ironically. ^^
As for the question, I usually just take it easy, but I use alot of military jargon, it does help alot.
And in general finding a squad that speaks english and all have microphones is a miracle so I tend to avoid looking the gift horse in the mouth.

Hahaha, that is the most epic callsign ever!
If I need to assign one again I am so switching over from Hotel/Sierra to Cupcake, definately. ^^

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
I'd rather deal with casual players than people who take things way too seriously. Like the other day when I joined a squad and the squad leader was using all the military jargon, I understand it but it's just too much. We're not really in Iraq. Though what really annoyed me was his constant whining about not being right next to the guy in my "fire-team"--because a two man fire-team is so effective--even though I'd explain to him why I'm against following my team member into suicidal or really bad positions or how I got held up because the enemy was shooting the piss out of me. Whatever.

Lol, it has to be said, when I play with the usual suspects (DonDoom/Prince/AnRK/Ninja/natovets) we tend to get quite carried away, I've got an embarrassing vid, where one of my flatmates thought it was funny to record my voice...
I'm like 'CHARLIE FIRETEAM ON ME! CONTACT EAST, TWO INFANTRY. RTR!'
'ROGER, THAT, ENEMY SUSPECTED ON ALPHA 5-2!'
Its not roleplaying, its just... informative...
Loud, clear, and concise.

it really helps, to keep the informations simple. even when it sounds funny, it gives you all informations needed and can make the difference between shooting or being shot.
unfortunately there are always people who don´t have their voip setup correct and you can´t understand what they are saying. and when you have a german voip squad, where an english slang speaker joins, who is more whispering than speaking, than it gets difficult

IMO: I like my squad mates to talk casual but professional, no chit chat on VOIP use it for gameplay only.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
It's PR, not RP. If people want to play "Let's pretend", fine. Sometimes it can be pretty funny, like some chap the other day in my squad going civi and saying "I'm just on my way to the market to buy milk for the baby, please don't shoot me!" etc. However, incoherent shrieks do more harm than good - clear concise even feedback is more valuable, even if it is in the relaxed tones of someone who knows the medic's gonna let their critically wounded timer expire so don't give a **** about the squad getting wiped for not listening.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
Strict role-playing seems awkward to me in PR but I definitely like to hear switched-on folks who are actively using voip to coordinate with squaddies and calling out contacts and such. Good, active voip usage with some military lingo thrown in really makes for a better PR experience, in my opinion.

I quite like the uber realism thing, makes me laugh, although I get tempted to play like a complete **** in those squads sometimes just cos I know how much it would wind them up.
Anyway I don't care about people being completely emmersed, enthusiasm is good, but I don't like it when it makes people take the game too seriously. I kick people from my squad that can't see the funny side of some guy that just threw the most hilariously badly thrown nade in the history of PR and wiped us all out in 1.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
Old and loooong thread!
Some comments reminds me of when i was playing in a tournament using the POE mod and the tournament leader (airborne) was a bit too strickt. We where NOT playing, but communicated using TS where i offered to make an interactive FLASH map thing for the tournament website (i'm a senior webdesigner) and he interupted me while i presented my ideas, and then i politely said: "Please dont interupt me, Sir." and...... He kicked me! I nearly left the tournament for that reason.
On topic: I hate when people shout "ARRRRRRGHHHHH" when they die. It would be nice if instead of hearing distorted voices, that they just mutes and give an audio feedback (beeep) to the person yelling, and remind the guy to adjust his microphone or settings.
When i speak i mostly speak calm and on topic. But its ok and can be wery funny with whatever chitchat when enroute. Serious but not too serious!
BTW: Nice to be here

I personally just use concise and straight to the point chat. Sort of a poor mans military babble I guess. This is mainly because I tend to drive tanks ect so Its really useful as you are an extra pair of eyes for your gunner.
IE: Spotter 3 troops, 2 armor N-W, haven't been noticed yet, hold fire whilst I report.

if some one wants to pretend they are an actual soldier in the middle of battle thats great, if they pretend with out hitting the transmit button is prefered. once i get a screamer in my squad i ask them once or twice to keep it down so everyone can hear whats going on. when the hit strike 3 they get the boot. i am playin PR for my squad's and my own enjoyment, if someones make believe world starts interfering with that, then they need too find a squad more suited to thier needs.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
I always leave a squad if the SL is being too "bossy". Don't get me wrong, I have no troubles doing the things the SL tells me to do but I am playing the game to have fun and I don't need some guy yelling at me like I'm back in the army.
I love a serious game where all squad members are relaxed and doesn't scream every time they see an enemy even if they are like 700 meters away. I use earphones when playing PR (gives a good advantage when searching for RP's and sense where from you are taking fire) and people that screams up while they have their mics down in their throats are pissing me off.
That having said, I am really glad for radio disciplin where the sq keeps the chatting on a min... Although I like players that can make me laugh by talking about all kind of funny stuff. Guess it depends on the mood but if the players are good I guess I don't give damn as long they don't scream into their mics.
