I think it can be done, you know when you go black and white, and turn up your map or caps lock. You dont see anything but the medics. And if that can be implemented then i think this also can work.

I agree. My first thoughts was that PR would be harder for myself, but just as hard for the enemy. This will improve and require alot more squad communication. No more "you can grab whatever kit you want, we're gonna move to... here"
People who complain about realism, the game isn't fully responsible for your satisfaction of realism, I am as well, if I'm on your opposing team. As well as the rest of you are to me.
Playing a game with people that has no sense of teamwork what so ever, is just... boring.
If this great idea were to be implemented, maybe on some maps only if devs dislike it,
make the maps last longer. I can already imagine how this would lift the experience.
It will force you even more to stick with your squad, listen to the SL, and really hesitate if you see movement in the distance. I agree that it'll be a disaster without a commander, but I think more people will apply for it, because the commander will be far more necessary.
Sorting the men from the boys.

I do like the idea and the realism associated with it. The only problem I have is that IRL you have more situational awareness than you can have in a game and there has to be some give because of that. For one there is more radio freedom, squads are able to talk to each other tell each other where they are.

Give the player a radius of people he can see so for example I can see on my map all friendly units in 200 metres radius.

i like the idea and am looking forward to hopefully testing out my navigation skills, all we will need is a compass to place on the map to figure out bearings ect

Maybe the soldier can only see friendly's around him like a UAV does in vBF2.

The idea that squad leaders could report in and that would leave markers on the map seems a good way to do this and yet not completely reply on the need for a commander.

wow only just seen this suggestion and think its brilliant! would definitely enhance the gameplay strategies!
its a good point...if we cant see any HUD info for realism, why should we be able to see little people and vehicles running about on our maps?
you got my vote

2 pages into it and i already see tons of stuff on "it will make it too hard" and "this game is meant for gamers" blah blah blah.
=D I'm all for a fun game, but thats why people can play Gears of War... ITS GOT A CHAINSAW ON THE END OF A GUN. That's it, thats the epitome. There is no more. You can't do ANYTHING better than that....
other than make a REALISTIC war game.
I love surprise attacks, on me, or on other people. What i feel is the most needed (with the limitations, i didn't know if the engine doesn't permit it, but is there ANYWAY to get a low LOD helmet? Usually when i tell a friendly from an enemy (at least at somewhat close range) I look at what they're wearing/not wearing. If there is anyway to get the helmet.... never mind. thats not the point.
=D I mean, the PR team said from the Get-Go that this is a mod meant for them, and how they want to see it. Not for us. Sure it's nice that they think about us, and do things for us, but i'm sure they'd be happy playing the game with a group of close friends, rather than a bunch of drunken.... no wait that is what they are, never mind.
Point is, i think this map idea would serve all those BF2v people coming over here very very well. =/ I'm getting sick of people A) Not listening to Commander 2) not caring the commander exists or III) Not listening to me when i'm commander even when i'm leading them to their doom.
So..
310% support

I was checking out the field of view last night, its at something like 80 degrees. Very acute compared to your real vision which must be more like 110 or 120 degrees though your awareness from the side varies.
I hope the upcoming patch might do something with widescreen support, will that alter fov I dont know but till then anything to compensate is a good thing

Coordinated movements are hard enough as it is with no military training, it would take a real dedicated co to make it work.
