Is your friend me, Tonarion?
I have the exact same situation.
But I have the EA Classics version of the game.

I can only join the 2 VBIOS PR servers. And that's about it.
I've re-installed both BF2 and PR freshly, and I even checked that I didn't get the cd key error in Vanilla BF2.
And then, upon going into PR...
Ba-dumm tshh,

Your CD Key is not valid.
This is starting to piss me off right now, because I had to disable UAC for a while and do from three to four reboots on this machine..... don't even get me started on the wait time to open a patch on this comp...

Running Windows Vista 32-bit,
DARN I HATE IT!!!
I wish I had XP or 7.

Hope we get a fix for this..
'cause I don't speak Russian at all lol

Oh, and it gets even worse:

He cannot even connect to most BF2 servers.

His Key must be valid, because obvioulsy he bought it off Origin.

so there are only 2 possebilities: 1. Vista and BF2/PR dont like eachother 2. Origin and PR dont like eachother

Heelp please :D

If this method is not working for you try this.

Navigate to your Battlefield 2 game folder and go to Support. You will find there small program called "Battlefield 2_code.exe"

Run it and type your CD key in it when prompted.

If you have Special Forces, go back to root game folder and open SupportXP1. You will find there program similar to previous one, called "Battlefield 2 Special Forces_code.exe''

Run it and insert your SF code in it. Reboot system after doing it all.

Note that you will need to have game installed from some media, and copying it from backup or some other place will not work.

Soupersteve0,

quick test:
Battlefield 2 - Invalid CDKey Fix - Page 13 - Steam Users' Forums
IF all fails [Windows 7 and Windows Vista Solution]

Open up regedit (Win + R, type "regedit" and hit the enter). Browse to the registry keys of Battlefield 2. On 32-bit systems, this is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\. On 64-bit systems, it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\.

Inside Battlefield 2 , you should see ergc.
Then there is one value inside that folder.
It says x9392AND-SO-ON.
Go to steam and right click Battlefield 2 and click View Game cd key
and copy it.
Paste it after the x9392.
Do the same with Special Forces.
Use dotDev's installscript.vdf found here http://germandarknes.net/content/BF2FixdotDev.zip

4. Play Game
Need some info to help you out:
1. which OS, and is it 32 or 64 bit?
2. Did your current installation of VBF2 and/or PR work at any time? Did it work before Dec 30th and not after Jan 1st? (ON Dec 31 Steam put out a mini update for BF2 that wrecked PR, but we have a quick fix) . This is important, let us know.
3. installed through steam? If using Vista, 7, 8 or Server2008, are you running steam as an admin, are you running PR as an admin? You need to run both as admins from now on.

If you answered yes to question 2, follow this:
Steam Support
Steam
Troubleshoot and How-To's
How To's
Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... -QEUH-3335

** go to your steam>bf2>Properties, and on the updates tab does it say "Allways keep this game up to date"?
If not, Select that option. If it is, click on the local files tab and click the one saying "Verify Integrety of Game Cache"

4. After checking above, did steam update BF2?
5. If after running the Verification you get no errors, respond back here.
6. Use a checksum program to make sure your PR installation files are not corrupted:
free checksum program: MD5 Checker - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
MD5 hashes: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... ashes.html
7. If your steam game files cache AND your installation files come back without errors, you can do a full uninstall of PR, uninstall BF2, reboot, reinstall BF2, update BF2 on steam, install PR, and you should be good to go.

hey guys, long time no see :)
if u are using origin software with your bf2 then to check your cd-key you just need to open the origin - login - right click on your bf2 - click "show your game data" or something like that and there will be your cd-key :)

Hello all
I have this problem of CD-Key for a long time, and I reinstalled the game 10 times in the beginning the problem was with the FH2.4 and now with the PR0.97
I'm almost giving up this game for stress ...
my game is the complete collection box
and I've tried to solve by using the "Invalid CD-key BF2 Fixer"
and also the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
the two forms did not work ...
Anyone know what can I do?
Thanks .... (sorry for bad english)

If this https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... post703027 wont fix it, then either something is really wrong with your system ( and is really hard to determine what ) or your CD key is indeed invalid, and in that case contact sales/support service where you bought the game, since it may be stolen or used.

But first make sure you tried everything, and error comes up in core game ( vanilla BF2 ) and not in mods. If you used illegal source for downloading game or its patches ( various exe fixes and such ) then reinstall from original media. Make sure you have 1.41 and 1.5 patch installed.

I downloaded the BF2 Invalid CD-key Fixer and the
  • Requires .NET Framework 3.5
When the screen comes up for me to enter my CD-Key I entered the characters. When I press "Fix" nothing happens??? It just sits there quietly minding its own business lol

Any thoughts?

O and I have already been into some games last week after doing the HKey change idea. It just stopped working so I tried the above.

One option that has been done is contact EA and advise them of the issue, this was recently done by another IC member and he was issued a new key without issue. Now he is playing fine. ;)

All these little utilities seem to put the key in the registry with x9392 in front. However, on my PC with a working BF2 installation, the key is encrypted so I don't see how it's going to work just putting the key in unencrypted with x9392 in front. In fact, it hasn't worked and I'm getting CD Key is Invalid trying to connect to servers, although strangely I've managed to connect to one or two occasionally.

I bought another copy of BF2 Complete Collection for my other PC so that my friend could play when he's over, so each PC is using a different key. I also noticed the keychanger utils put the key entered in the registry keys for both BF2 and SF and I don't think that's right. Certainly in my working install, the two encrypted keys aren't the same.

EDIT: Actually it seems to be working now that I've put the two different BF2 and SF keys in the registry with x9392 in front of them, so I guess it doesn't actually matter if it's encrypted or not! I seem to get Connection to Server has been lost on the first attempt every time I load BF2 but I tried 3 or 4 servers after that and they all connected without any problem :)

This is a problem with Punkbuster, and is not really solvable by the PR staff.
We have a work-around,
try this:

Not sure if this has been posted in the thread already but just making sure... If you are still getting the error while typing x9392 and then your CD-key, try putting dashes between the 4 digits, example: x9392ASDF-ASDF-ASDF-ASDF-ASDF

For some keys you have to type it with dashes and for some you dont, try that before buying new keys :)
