Re: New Bf2 patch?
The thing about 128 players is that Dice/EA would have to increase the number of sqauds allowed or increase how many people on 1 sqaud. Its just too much to ask of EA/Dice to do such things IMO.
Oh and still, 128 would be overkill, 80 would be maximum really.

Re: New Bf2 patch?
Before we will see 128 Player in BF2 patch we will see pigs fly. Maybe we will see 128 in BF3 where Dice can say, they did it they invent the battlefield new with 128
At the moment it will just costs to much money for a old game. With BF3 it would be a little bit diffrent because they could print on the box: "now with 128" and the guys would buy it just because of that.
Maybe the patch will bring a hotfix for widescreen and thats it

Re: New Bf2 patch?
The patch will probably throw up some bugs for PR forcing the Devs to make a patch. The same happened for the 2142 1.50 patch.

Novalogic.com shows they are making something called angel falls, but there is little information on that.nicoliani wrote:Strange that they didn't continue making those games.
Lets be realistic ppl, 128 is NOT going to happen, discuss that on the 128 player thread.

spacemanc wrote:omg - just listened to it and it looks like there is actually going to be a new patch announced on monday- can we mention fastropz now? jk - I think 128 players may be a possibilty though, as it was planned to be in the game and now peoples hardware has improved. How cool would that be for PR!
If they did that Plus WS support for the new and now in major use LCD WS monitors, and some major bug fixes, and ballance changes to make AA vs jets/choppers work, and fix the G36E so it's not so uber as well as for the love of god add the Hone of Fire from BF:2142 into the next patch I would forever keep on playing BF:2, and may even uninstal BF:2142!
I mean in all fairness the only things that hold me back from playing BF2 are the fallowing:
IO Servers: theres too many! Too many maps support IO! And playing it on maps like Highway Tamap sucks because it's just a sniper fest!
Jets: They can't be killed half the time, when the game was released Jets were falling out of the sky 9 runs outa 10 a jet would go down, as long as people bothered to use the AA guns.
Choppers: THe major inballance in transport choppers was the ease fo Repair, not their guns, their Guns were fine! The major problem with Attack Choppers was not there at all on launch day. The only ones who whined about their Choppers where the Chopper Whores who wan'ted their chopper to pwn all things well now they have their wish! 9 times outa 10 a tank can not down a chopper if he shoots the damn thing in the cockpit 2-3 times with his 120mm, or in the case of the PLA/MEC/Russians 125mm. The worst part was when they nerfed the AA guns on carriers, and even worse then that was they nerfed the ground based Missile launchers!

John from Dice - "Well, Basically, YES theres somthing cooking, But we will make some kind of announcement, monday when we turn Three, so there is going to be somthing happening."

Re: New Bf2 patch?
if the new patch changes the engine for bf2, can this effect PR? or will the engine still be the same as of 1.4

Re: New Bf2 patch?
The engine? They could change something with the engine, but i doubt it, since that would require lots of work. But they will not completely change the engine of BF2.
Dont worry, its probably some minor detail. Maybe something thats not good for PR, but that can probably be fixed by a PR hotfix then.

Maybe just a map or so. Or some public relations stuff for BF3 / Bad Company / 2142 / Spore / Crysis / whatever included into BF2 (such as - get 100 points for bunnyhopping now and get a free patch for BF2141!)"YES theres somthing cooking"

Re: New Bf2 patch?
Firstly, just like bloodshot said, it doesnt assure us of a new patch...so dont get your hopes up.
My advice is, if a new patch is being released soon...
DO NOT INSTALL IT OVER BF2 PR!!!
if there is a new patch we will be testing it asap and work out the bugs. But again, its just a rumour. but i listened to the whole interview, and it sounds like at the end, there was an off the record part where the interviewer was thanking him after the interview for sharing this information early with the public, as "It was ment to be a surprise".
Remember, DONT INSTALL IT OVER PR. IF you wanna check yourself, copy the folder and edit it that way. Or just wait for it to be tested.

Re: New Bf2 patch?
I get the feeling it wont be anything special. You know... one of those patches that fixes a few bugs only a dozen players have ever experienced... Maybe some crappy old map one of the developers was working on in his free time.. I'm just not going to keep my hopes up.
About the 128 player issue. I don't understand why EA/DICE just doesn't release the code for it. Let the community sort out whats best. If I recall, the old call of duty games (COD 1 & 2) were almost limitless (Actually I just remembered and I think the limit was 255) in how many players could join a server as I do remember a server or two that allowed up to 100 players. Granted, gameplay was absolute chaos, like 65 players on a small COD map... the nades... o god the nades. And the lag was just plain bad. So most of the good servers only allowed up to around 40 players or something like that. Though I think on the small COD maps around 20 players was best IMHO.
Point is I'm sure the community will know whats best really, it's not like many servers would allow the full 128 player maximum.

Re: New Bf2 patch?
hi, im no pro. but afaik its down to draw distance and CPU speed. Once the draw distance is standard and the Box isnt running a hundred servers at once, it should support. Ping wouldnt change and crashing if any would be down to too many events happening in a single area. But i seriously doubt if they will impliment that.'[T wrote:Terranova7;709568']I get the feeling it wont be anything special.
