I would like to help with the editing stuff,
maybe get in some blood, dirt ect...

Never made a BF2/BF2 PR movie, so im not familiar with battlerecorder.
I did made some banners/signatures ect, as seen below. You can see some
more at Hardcore-Marines under the galery..

I dont have a real movie to show you my skills, i will have it soon, maybe in
2 days, im making a promotion movie for my cod4 clan; Hardcore-Marines.

And maybe we can split up the editing work or something like that??
BTW im using AE CS3

- “Irene” is called.
- Little Birds take off first, followed by Black Hawks. They move into formation.
- Ground convoy leaves.
- The above two points are shot separately (due to player constraints).
- Shots of air group/convoy moving towards the city.

See, that's what I am talking about with writing a script ;)

Hey everyone I am now back from my vacation and I can't wait to start filming again, i hope that tomorrow or the 27th of June that we can start writing a script and start some more clips and I am putting thought into doing the real thing with exact amount of people, and humvees that were used in the real movie. So if you have any other questions or comments post or my xfire is gunslayer201.

Dojobear wrote:I too, would like to participate in this project, provided you still need some extra bodies.

If I may, I'd also like to add in my $0.02 CDN (Worth almost as much as $0.02 US!) worth of thoughts. It’s a bit long-winded, but if you're interested read on. :D

So, as mentioned already by posters before me, I think it'd be best to wait until 0.8 comes out. It seems like a lot of the upcoming changes would make filming/shooting a lot easier. Also as mentioned previously, BattleDirector ought to be used to film rather than an individual with FRAPs. Perhaps some first person “through the eyes of the soldier” views may look good as well?

Personally I would like to see as much of the event covered as possible as accurately as possible, from the launch on the afternoon of October 3rd to dawn on October 4th with re-enactments of accounts and interpretations from both the book/movie/other sources. It sounds a bit ambitious and more detailed oriented but I think it is doable and would be more than willing to volunteer time to see it through. I am aware that some scenes will not be able to be shot due to limitations of the game (i.e. Fast-roping), but we’ll find a way to compensate for that no? :D

Hypothetical Example:
Mission Launch “Irene” Scene
Vehicles:
4 Black Hawks
4 Little Birds
9 Humvees
3 Supply Trucks
16 Pilots (1 Pilot, Co-Pilot for each chopper)
8 Black Hawk Gunners
32 Passengers (4 per chopper)
24+ Soldiers (2 or more per Humvee, 2 per CO Truck)

- “Irene” is called.
- Little Birds take off first, followed by Black Hawks. They move into formation.
- Ground convoy leaves.
- The above two points are shot separately (due to player constraints).
- Shots of air group/convoy moving towards the city.

It’d also be nice to have some good audio. It can be as simple as some in-game sounds overlapped with the existing audio, or (if fortunate enough) full blown voice acting.

So… yeah. That concludes my long-winded post. Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to hijack the project. That is not my intention. I just want to see something good since most of the previous ones that I've seen floating about basically amount to a Black Hawk getting hit by an RPG and then crashing and little else.
Dude i appriciate this for all this information and i will use this in my film and i will need definatley 32 to 40 people so if you would like to help i would love that! thanks.

Just fyi, when .8 is out and we see if my map is released, I wouldn't be opposed to altering the map to be more in line with what you intend to film[for filming purposes only, I dont want another version out there getting gameplay or anything]. Just let me know what you want added in and how many.

In the meantime, I like your approach to writing a script and getting some ideas down. Youve got the time, so make use of it before .8 is released, THEN you can work more on getting filming done, etc.

Now is the time to get your team together and start planning roles and days of the week you can all meet, etc.

Good luck.

I'd like to throw in some things I've learned while making my various machinimas.

1. Always have a script and make it plan #1. Go in to the map you will be using and take a look around by yourself. Imagine the shots you want to take, get yourself in that position if it's possible from a first person view and see how it looks.

2. Always have a backup plan. Somebody always screws up. If there are pieces of your script that you feel may be very hard to do then make sure you have something that can replace that part of your timeline. If it means having an extra camera angle planned out then make sure you have several angles before the shoot. When going back and looking at the demo file you will see things you never noticed had happened the first time around.

3. Do more "takes" than you think you should. This partly will help with #2 of my list and also will give you more opportunities for camera angles without having to restart the demo file. Sometimes an even cooler looking scene appears once people have gotten the hang of the scene.

4. Set up a command tree. If you want to deal with 20+ actors then you will want people that you can depend on to moderate the troops. People may seem like the most mature people you could find for a video shoot but once you get in the server you will be glad that you found people who can help set up so you can attend to other things like finding those 5 missing actors who haven't been online in the past week.

5. When editing make sure to export a draft of your final. There will always be a mistake that you never noticed and wish you hadn't spent the last 2 hours exporting in HD.

6. Record at a higher resolution than you plan to export at. By doing this you have extra pixels to work with. The BF2 engine will not let you change FOV's in the middle of running a demo file so if you want a clean looking shot of a zoom then you will need the extra pixels. This can be supplemented by a change of FOV with a repeated camera track at a smaller FOV.

7. well, i can't think of more right now but if you want any voice actors I would be glad to help out with that. xfire = kevlarorc

i used these tips to create this http://vimeo.com/1180098 and if you work even longer on the planning and editing you can make it look much better than this

Yeah MP5, I think the movie can wait till .8, if we wait it'll be a lot better. Plus we can have time to come up with a script.

OMFG those are awesome Okita :D

Hope you had a great vacation mp5punk :D

So, as Okita and kevlarorc stated before we definately need some planning/backup planning.

Combing through the thread, heres what we have so far:

FILMING
ACTORS [REQUESTED ROLE]
SGT.JOKER
Znake
cplgangster
steve_06-07
Maverick [US PILOT]
Oxxen
Hathaway
FuzzySquirrel=US= [US LTTLE BIRD PILOT]
Colt556 [US PILOT]
Scorch [US SQUAD LEADER/CONVOY LEADER]
Sars99 [US INFANTRY/SOMALI INSURGENT]
jim1994 [CO-PILOT]
Vlade.the_medic
Dojobear
Col_Jeremy22
yukaho
ostupidman

EDITING
pwn3ge106
DenvH
Dojobear

VOICE ACTORS
kevlarorc

GENERAL CONSENSUS/RECOMMENDATIONS
- Waiting for 0.8
- Use of BattleDirector for majority of filming
- Use of Okita's BHD map (Provided it is in PR 0.8 *crosses fingers*)

WHAT WE NEED
- A script (I wouldn't mind working on a draft of one)
- Organization
- Backup Plans/Alternatives
- Server (Not immediately, but something we should plan for, should have BattleRecorder)

THE MAP
If Okita's map is not featured in 0.8, we need as mentioned, a backup plan. Judging by the "Incoming in future release (0.8 & +)" thread, Fallujah West looks like it'd be a decent alternative. Kashan could be a workable alternative too.

THE WHO
At the moment we have at least 17 (19 including SGT.JOKER's two others) people that have, in this thread stated "I want to be in this film". Thats about half of we need at least if we're trying to tackle the full blown thing. Scenes like the Super 64 Crash Site would probably be best to have a full load of people on it. If we are doing voice acting, we should starting auditioning/casting people for specific roles as well as finding someone who can edit audio. They do not have to act in the film if they do not wish to.

THE WHEN
As suggested, we need to come up with available dates, timezones, and any other scheduling information in order to facilitate a smooth filming process. It'd be great if people could start posting their availability.

THE HOW
So, pwn3ge106 and DevnH have volunteered their services as editors, which is great. I haven't had much experience working with machinima, but I'd like to give the editing a shot too. Out of curiosity, if we are filming the majority of the battle, there will definitely be some night scenes. Is it possible for someone to edit the colour (to something a bit more fitting of night time) or alternatively, is it possible to just get a very dark version of the map we will be filming on? In addition for the soundtrack I'd like to recommend the one used for the movie, as well as a few others that people may think is fitting to the movie.

If I missed someone/something, let me know. Now I'd like to ramble on a bit. I'm not 100% familiar with the limitations/capabilities of the game, so please don't hesitate to give me a "Reality" check (pun intended) if need be. ;) Apologies for the again, long-winded post.

As for a night map version, if I see filming is moving along and that this project is deemed....'worthy' of my time, I would consider doing a night version for filming purposes.

But, as I can imagine it would be a bit of a hassle to redo all the lighting, I would sort of need to be assured of the daylight filming quality and commitment of the film crew before I started something like that...

I leave for Japan mid September, so alot of this depends on timing. Maybe if I get bored I will fiddle around and make a night version ahead of time and just have it ready... it all depends...

I might be able to help for a couple weeks before school starts, that's if I'm not busy for a few weeks.

Plus I'd recommend we start a group on xfire to keep in contact with each other.

Being an actor/extra in the film sounds great. Hopefully I remember to keep tabs on how this progresses (and don't miss when the filming will start).

My sister isn't much of a FPS player (she has to be in the mood), but she might be interested in being an actor/extra. She is an amateur artist (mostly cartoon styles though) and she might be able to be nudged into producing artwork if needed.
