16p is just another configuration of the map now. In pr they setup 3 different map load outs.

The real infantry type map is skirmish mode now and I see 16p used all the time, works fine with 64 players in pr

Navy's sound interesting, but I would like to see Pirates, like insurgency-at-sea. Quite how it would work I'm not sure, but they could use speed boats and armoured boats to attack a conventional navy, or to defend against attacks after raiding a merchant ship...

So can we have the Battleships mods stuff?

'[R-MOD wrote:Bob_Marley;761086']The Brits could use those hover crafts the RMs have, on the plus side they can traverse land and very shallow water, on the down side they've only got a GPMG strapped to the roof.

If this hovercraft is modeled, i will design a map for it. :)

Nice boats.

I did tried to do some river patroling on Bi Ming but getting fired at in the vBF2 boat isn't a good idea :P Some better armored one could be useful.

I think patrol boats could be very good idea if implemented correctly.

It would be very VBF2 to have patrol boats on Muttrah for the MEC (to allow kiddies to rape the carrier). Not to mention the LAV/APC is amphibious so that is enough in that respect.

Alot of thought would need to go in to applying them. I think that if some of the DEVs played around on Battlefield Vietnam they could get some ideas. I know there is some terrible map ideas on there (if applying to the theme of PR) but from what isn't good you can get an idea of what is.

Even Militia could hve a fairly simple boat. Just look at how much pwning LTTE (Liberation Tigers for Tamil Elam, i think) do against the Sri Lankan navy.

Even the insurgents could have a civil transport boat or maybe a boat with deployable and packable weapon system (whether it is a simple machine gun or something quite powerful but not very accurate to compensate for the DIY involved).

Map concept and gameplay need to be thought about alot if we are to have some water fun. Sitting in a boat with lots of guns on it all round with 3 kills isn't worth it unless you are transporting troops AND making offensive or defensive movements that are worthwhile in the gameplay aspect.

Deploying vehicles form craft could also be an option (it might be hard coded) but I Believe the IDF:FFI mod did it.

The bdrm floats so they have one already apparently but fools road doesnt employ such tactics often.

I'd like to see insurgents use boats more on basra, the river that spans the width of the map could be good to use, nothing more then a rib is justifiable there though

You're a good thinker. I complete forgot the amphibiousness of russian designed fighting vehicles in the case of PR because it has never occured to me that it might be incredibly worthwhile doing it at the start of the round/attacking the bridge but it is something I shall have to do.

I agree with wanting insurgents to use boats more (in a worthwhile way). Small fishing-style, logistic boats might be more realistic than an RIB for insurgents but I'm no expert on the leisure and business boating in the demographic of Babylon.

the brdm a.k.a. bucket'o'shit doesn't count towards anything my dear. the only thing it is good for, is blowing up unarmed civilians...hell, you can destroy this thing w/ a .50 cal

Yes ... this would be pretty nice ... a boat patrol squad. ;)

While patrol boats would be nice, I would rather see more amphibious vehicles made to fill out that need first.

Naval Combat

This has only been slightly suggested and discussed, what I think is a good place for improvement is the naval vessels and combat on water.

Now I am not talking about putting in submarines and destroyers, BF2 :P R is way to small for that. What I think should be looked into is the chance of having missile boats on some water maps, or which could open up the possibility of having new water maps.

These are examples of "small" missile boats used by the Chinese, Finnish and German Navy.

2 Mec boats?

Old Russian missile boat, maybe for militia forces:

A new boat for insurgents/militia would also be nice, as it would give the game a little more unique feeling.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bSr8dTULRo4/T ... irates.jpg : this one with a M60/PKM?

Now the deciding part is of course done by the DEV team, which boats to use and not use and so on, what I want to be discussed is the chance of having more naval combat in PR.

hmmmm doesn't sound like a bad idea.... although really is lost on PR maybe PR2 or even ArmA2 could take on this kind of thing.

With Tirak linking to a relevant thread, I decided that I'd actually merge these threads. It's been discussed half to death, but with larger maps, who knows what the future will bring?
