We are talking about the tail rotor damage where you spin out of control, not the one where you lose your rudder ability.
I think the reason they cant do that is because the engine cant do physics like that but that is what I was hoping they could do to.

For some reason this doesn't happen in multiplayer, but in singleplayer, in the gunship littlebird, if you take a lot of damage, it starts spinning like crazy and there's no way to control it.

But, even without the laggyness, didn't the spin-out barely ever work that often in multiplayer?

'[SP-DEV wrote:creepin;978373']yeah, like i said, the network engine of BF2 tends to ignore that kind of stuff..

when we SP devs/testers have a big session, with Lilbirds involved i never saw it spinning, its only a local thing...
Do you ever think that EA/Dice won't let you get deeper into there engine because they don't want to get showed up?

No, more something along the line of them not having a license to the BF2 engine, aka they dont have the source code and therefore cannot modify it.

Ya but take desert combat for example, it was a huge mod for 1942 and EA eventually pretty much bought it off them and made it into bf2. EA advertises PR in there game so why wouldn't they recognize they are not some kids who are gonna give out there source code to everyone and let them use it, Allot of huge mods have spawned great games Counterstrike for example made valve a crapload of money.

Besides the engine is old and outdated but I would not put it past ea/dice if they were still making new titles on it.

Good to see how this thread stayed on topic </sarcasm>

Anyhow, it would be cool, but this suggestion only regards a more simpler system of simulating more realistic helicopter crashes.

I'll try to get a couple more vids of the changes up (though this time there won't be a Merlin on Basrah, but rather a Lynx :P )

This is really cool. so when the heli get to critical damage it falls to ground but b/c of health wont explode letting ppl out aowsim!

Not at all. Most helicopters blow up with contact of the ground if that haven't been downed in the air. I really think this should be implemented with all helicopter variants.

From the .86 changelog:

- changed Tranport Helicopter damage system - they now have twice the amount of HP, but get their engine disabled around 70% HP. This means crash landings will be much more common and gives passengers chance to escape more often.

Looks like we are gonna have these changes (or something like it) implemented after all :P . Thanks, Devs.

P.S. Please lock this thread, as it no longer serves any purpose.

I would not lock it just yet because it will only lead to new topic saying 70% disable is worse off then it is now you get hit by 6 50cal rounds and your disabled.

Not saying that its going to be this way but I can sure see needless topic being made that would go here.

I didn't calculate it exactly, but i assume that a 70% critical threshold of 200% HP is pretty much the same damage-resistance like in 0.85 but with more time/hp to (crash)land the chopper.

Why is it that this is only being implemented with transport helicopters? I've just tried it out with the Apache and it works fine.

If helis in RL were like in PR Blackhawk Down would have lasted about 20 minutes.

Great effort on the vid, and liking the idea.

What's realistic, the music :P ? All joking aside, it seems like 0.86 is implementing something similar, with the engines being disabled after 70% damage. I can't wait to see how that turns out.

Would be nice if they could disable the tail rotor if that got hit... :D
Great vid BTW, can't wait for .86 to see if it as good as we hope for....
